Three of us dined here for lunch, and we specifically requested a quiet table. They put us right next to a table of probably 10 people celebrating a birthday, and they were very loud, to the point it interfered with our ability to hear each other. This is why I'm giving only two stars for ambience. The second problem was the food - one of us thought his dish was very good, mine was decent but nothing special, and the third person thought her lunch was actually bad. So they really need to step it up a notch in both the kitchen and the front of the house. I would not return here.
Nice place for a casual dinner. The food is very greasy though. Not anything sophisticated, just large size homemade dishes.
The staff was lovely and a fun group! The good was incredible, all the suggestions they made were perfect! I had just gotten back from France and this brought me back!
The food was outstanding even though the menu was a little off putting at first. The lunch choices were rather strange, with a heavy emphasis on duck in several dishes. Our waiter recommended the special of the day, grilled shrimp over mashed potatoes, which was amazing. Overall I really liked this cute little French spot but the menu needs some standard items and the wooden chairs were uncomfortable.
This place is round the corner from my work, and I LOVE it. It’s chilled. The staff are friendly, as is the owner. They remember our favourite wine.
Excellent restaurant- just a bit noisy.
Bonne ambiance et nourriture de qualité!
Amazing, highly recommend
Amazing and knowledgeable service!!!
Had a wonderful experience at the restaurant with an old friend. Service was fantastic as was the food, will definitely come back!
The food and service was excellent and all at great prices. A great place to actually have dinner conversations without shouting. The service was unhurried and the staff very warm and friendly. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their delicious food.
A hidden gem in the city! Fantastically attentive staff, delicious food, and lovely ambiance.
Aquitaine is a comfy, cozy retreat from the bustling downtown intersection of the Financial District and Union Square. Its arrival on the scene is enormously welcome and overdue. When you want a lunch out that is special but not brutally expensive, Aquitaine is a perfect pick. The menu is full of tasty and healthy choices. They are inventive without being overly complicated. Not at all trendy but the place is bursting with flair. The service is fantastic and personable. These guys love their wines and are happy to discuss them at length. GO. TO. AQUITAINE.
And... I’m back in France 🇫🇷! Tres Bien! What a gem in every way. Small, adorable and the food... oooh la la!
The waiters always know how to select the best wine to enhance our meal!
Always a good place for a bite or a meal before a show or lecture!...service is always exceptional!...one waiter in particular always seems to go above and beyond!!
Went with my SO for a dinner out and got the burrata salad and steak frites (split between the two of us). The service was excellent and the food was well-made. It’s a cute place which we’ll likely go to again.
Love this place for a quick bite. Check out their reuben.
Took 2 hours to get served after sitting down. Ridiculous!
Amazing secret lunch place. I am so excited to have found it!
This is a hidden gem on the outside of One Montgomery Tower. Service is super personable and friendly. Food came out in quick order and tasted great. Prices were a lot more reasonable than I expected. Inside is a little crowded and can get pretty loud but it adds to the energy of the place. Came for lunch and would come back 👌👌
Lovely lunch spot; solid entree choices with reasonable pricing. Friendly & professional wait-staff.
The food was delicious and priced well, not outrageous for French food!
Four of us went for lunch at 1 o’clock on a Wednesday. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Two of us shared the duck rueben and little gems salad and it was plenty to eat. The other diners had the burger and pancetta and onion tart. The tart was a flatbread rather than a quiche and the salad was made with romaine rather than baby lettuces. We had seen another patron served the “tart” before we ordered and asked the waiter what it was so we knew what to expect. The salad may have been made with romaine because little gem lettuces were not available, but we were not bothered by the substitution and did not inquire. The burger was juicy snd perfectly cooked (medium rare). We did not order wine or dessert. Service was prompt. The chairs are traditional bistro style and were not very comfortable. I thought the food was well prepared and a good value. There are not that many lunch spots in the financial district that are fairly casual and take reservations. Aquitaine is a good option.
Food is terrific, and the muscles are to die for. Truly the best in the city. The only downside is the very high prices for a glass of wine.
We found the food, ambiance, and service all to be very good, with the only difficulty to be parking on the street. We ended up going to the Stockton Sutter garage. But the restaurant is very pleasant and worth it. Maybe taking Uber or Lyft is the answer!
I have always liked Aquitaine. My disappointment in this visit was the service. People who arrived and ordered after us were served first. When we asked where our meal was the waiter said it was on its way but offered no reason for the delay. After we had eaten, we sat in front a table full of dirty dishes. As much of the other patrons had left (around 2:00) I had to get up tell the staff that we were feeling neglected.
The noise level is always quite high. The tables are very crammed together. After we were seated and I was quite close to the table the waiter came and asked to move our table a little further away from the adjoining one as the patron at the table was complaining he didn't have enough room.
All-in-all, I'd say that Aquitaine is one of the better choices in the financial district if you are having a fairly quick non-business meal, but if you want conversation and reasonable service, you will be disappointed.
Aquitaine is conveniently located where the Financial and Union Square districts meet. It's the perfect lunch spot for shoppers and business people who love good food and a great value. If you are tired of food that is so complex and expensive, you have to think about whether you even like it (or are too inexperienced to understand cuisine), Aquitaine's food is sophisticated bistro fare that is easy to love because it's just tasty. And affordable. Period. Wine lovers will have their hearts go pitter pat with the abundant selection and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Merci!
Love their food. Deviled eggs, charcuterie, mussles and fries. Fries are delicious.
Love this place! Have been a few times and decided to return again this past weekend. Everything was cooked to perfection (the steak has been amazing every time I've had it), service was fantastic, and wine was delicious. Perfect date night or spot to catch up with some friends.
Great food! Great service! It’s one of my favorite restaurants. The beet salad is phenomenal. The owner, Andrew is always welcoming and gracious.
Excellent food, amazing wine selection, & great service! We highly recommend Aquitaine!
Andrew was a delight! Wonderful experience!
Everything was perfect....except it was freezing in there. The staff said they turned up the heat, but we never noticed a difference, and everyone who came in the door talked about how cold it was. Other than that, great food, great service, great wine; you could hold a conversation with your companion without yelling or straining. We will definitely go back!!
Amazing deviled eggs, fries & duck confit!! Yes I would go back and especially for the 30% off wine deal :)
The staff was especially accommodating to our business needs. It was a perfect spot for our business lunch.
Very good standard French fare. Very friendly staff. Nice ambience. Convenient location close to Union Square and Market Street. Chairs were a little uncomfortable.
Came here with our young-adult kids after seeing Cirque de Soliel and wanting to continue the French themed evening. We all enjoyed the food including several delicious vegetarian options, a delightful fromage board and yummy dessert (my husband, who considers himself something of a creme brûlée expert and orders it whenever he sees it on the menu, said it was the best he’s ever tasted). The wine list was fantastic with a broad selection of French and California wines and the proprietor was very helpful in assisting us with our wine selection. A true gem of a restaurant that we will definitely visit again next time we’re in the City!
I don’t usually write reviews, but the folks at Aquitaine treated us so well I felt I owed them a positive report. We made a late reservation for a party of 7 with 3 kids. They don’t cater to kids particularly - no kids menus or crayons - but the whole staff was friendly and accommodating. Service was attentive without being obnoxious, the wine list is terrific, and the food was excellent across the board. My steak frites was perfectly cooked, quality meat, with a very flavorful bordelaise sauce. My wife’s mussels were fresh and the sauce was tangy and yummy. We all left full and happy. A terrific experience all around, 10 out of 10 for a French bistro.
Nice wine bar with good food. We went in for the happy hour, which was reasonable. Nice cocktails in a cozy environment. Nice for after work relaxation. The food menu is not extensive, but pairs well with the wine - cheese, charcuterie, olives, galettes. There are some salads and plates for those who'd like a little more. Service was friendly.
