Aquitaine Dedham at Legacy Place Ratings and Reviews
We have been to the various Aquitaine locations many times over the years and have always been pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. In our most recent and perhaps last venture with Aquitaine, lunch service was beyond deplorable. Twenty minutes elapsed after our party was seated before wait staff greeted us. Cocktails took 15 minutes to arrive. Appetizers - which were soup - took over an hour to arrive. Our entrees arrived within 5 minutes of the soup. The food itself appeared as if it had been hastily prepared despite the excessive wait. All our inquiries were met with a response that the food “was on its way.” Management ultimately offered to comp dessert.
The food and service were both excellent. The appetizers came out very fast which was fine for me but it may have not suited others looking for a more relaxed experience. I ordered a glass of red wine which was delivered at "room temperature" and was way too warm for my liking. I prefer my red wine around 60 degrees. As a result, I ordered a rose wine for the second glass because I knew it would be chilled. I would have preferred another red wine but did not want such a warm beverage. For such a nice restaurant, I would recommend they work on their beverage service.
The service was excellent. Our server Rachel is the best and we enjoyed our interaction with her. She easily and good-naturedly took care of me and my wife, the couple with 2 little kids near us who dropped crayons and stuff and wandered around, and a group of 6 spoiled teens who came in.
The food was good -- but we felt the portions were skimpy considering the not-so-skimpy prices. My average size piece of cod on a bed of mashed potatoes and a few string beans is pricey at $27.00. And the plain salad was $8 more.
We got this as a gift certificate, but the $100 barely covered 2 meals and one drink. Will only return if someone else is treating or if we get another gift certificate.
Aquitaine is a good, reliable restaurant where you won't generally get anything but a good, solid meal. I had the Cod with what appeared and tasted like a lentil/minced winter vegetable base and it was quite delicious. Was it $27 delicious? Not really. So it's a bit over-priced. But it was still a good place for family celebrations.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, which is an ideal lunch spot at Legacy Place in Dedham. I definitely will go again. I had the croque monsier sandwich, which was very tasty, though a tad over-grilled. My friend had the soup (minestrone) and sandwich (chicken salad) combo, which she liked. The young man who served us was friendly and efficient.
Veal schnitzel entree was great as was the service, unfortunately bourbon manhattan was over shaken and completely watered down :( should have been stirred, not shaken
Ceasar salad was very bland & lacked any flavor ( fresh garlic & Parm reggiano would have helped)
then post meal Cappuccino was served only warm, not hot.
The food was good and service was excellent. It’s a lovely restaurant. My complaint is that it is way too noisy for conversation. We didn’t stay for dessert because it was just too noisy. I’d have to rule it out for a date or any occasion when you want quiet conversation with your companions.
My advice to the owners and shareholders of this restaurant group is to use better judgement and make better choices when hiring your Legacy Place staff, particularly your "managers" and hostesses. It also behooves you to provide better training and to check in regularly and monitor how your restaurant is being run. It is obvious that your "management" staff really can't be bothered and obviously should not be in the service industry when they are rude, curt, hostile and unprofessional. (No offense to some of the courteous waiters and waitresses we have had in the past before yesterday - this doesn't apply to them). In this case, the management victory dance we witnessed yesterday is warranted because they got their wish - we will not return and we will stick to Legal C Bar for our regular and frequent meals out.
Overall very nice....As usual. They did have an issue with both restrooms being out of order. You were able to use the one at Legal Seafood's, which was nice. I started with the Onion soup. It's always very good. Brasserie Jo has the best onion soup in the Boston area, however. Richard had the warm Beet Salad with creamy Goat cheese. Absolutely outstanding. For mains I had the Beef au poive. It came with Gruyere Scalloped potatoes. We ordered a Succotash side which was excellent. Richard had the "schnitzel" which he always has. He thought it was a little bland this time around, but not too bad. For dessert I had the Pain Perdu, which is one of my favs. Kind of like an adult French toast. Richard did the Profiteroles, which were very good. Overall a nice meal. We do find that the Aquitaine in Brookline to consistently be a little better overall. Sometime we'll have to do the flagship rest. in the South end of Boston.
I have been to Aquitaine many times and I was underwhelmed this time. The presentation of the burger and fries was unimpressive. The chocolate pudding cake was over-baked. It was kind of a bummer because the burger was one of my favorites in the area and now I don’t feel that way. The service was good and everyone friendly.
I usually dine the South End location but we were meeting friends from Metro West so we decided on Dedham. It did not disappoint. We had a slight concern when we arrived...One person in our party is a bit hard of hearing in loud places. Aquitaine Dedham is a bustling place on a Friday night and therefore the noise level can get fairly high. Not unexpected...it's a good restaurant and they get busy. The manager on duty that night was lovely and she took great care to see that we were seated in a table where some of the background noise was lessened. Food is consistently good and well executed. Escargot is my fave appetizer. Great oysters and tuna tartare. Friday night Duck special was wonderful. Our server was great too. She knew the menu well, made great recommendations, was smart and witty, and made for an overall enjoyable experience.
This is the first time I have been to Aquitaine Dedham where the service was poor, and we had to return our entrees because they were cold. Our server didn't even check in on us after our food was served the first time. I will think twice before going back to this Aquitaine location.
Great food. The service is much better than it used to be several years ago. Much more friendly. The only complaint that I had was that the bread for the table was given to us in a brown bag. We had beet salad and 3 oysters our entrees were the tenderloin with au gratin potatoes. All very delicious.
I was at Aquitaine to have lunch and catch-up with a friend. The restaurant wasn't busy and the waitress gave us plenty of time to chat, choose our menu, serve the food and present the bill. At no time did we feel pressure to leave. As always, when at Aquitaine I had the french onion soup, always a hit as well as the small baguette they bring. I had the chicken salad sandwich, which was good, but the choice of bread was not as good as I expected - toasted and burnt on the edges. My friend enjoyed her sandwich and found it tasty and so large that she took half home. The chips that came with both our sandwiches we enjoyed and thought very good.
I would recommend Aquitaine even if you just wanted to stop by for the onion soup and a glass of wine.
Food was average. My beef Bourguignon was definitely too dry. The portion was generous though. Our waitress kept disappearing randomly. She was gone for over half of our meal.
There was another (very kind and courteous) waitress who helped us, kept covering our table even though it wasn't hers.
We had reservations but they were not needed on a fine, sunny Saturday afternoon. The inside dining room was sparsely occupied but it did appear that outdoor dining area was full with the exception of 2 small tables. The waitress was kind but apparently rushed. Took her some time to greet us initially and that set the stage for the rest of the meal. I estimate that it was over 30 to 45 minutes after ordering before we were served. Waitress did not visit table after delivering food and one in our party was not interested in eating her chicken ceasar salad. The chicken was dry (she said it did not seem like it was real chicken) and overall the salad was too salty to eat. Did not see the waitress to flag her down and again, she did not check in until the rest of the party had finished their meals. We were not charged and the waitress was apologetic enough - did not charge us and offered to bring something else but by that time, we needed to go. We'd been there before and were pleased to return but just thought you should know that this visit was a disappointment.
