Great service and great food
We were there Saturday night (12/30/17). I believe that was their second to last night before closing permanently. I nice reasonable menu for a high end look. Food was prepared very well. But $2.00 for bread is a bit silly. Next time she tries this, start by paying a bit more attention to the clientele.
After seven years of fabulous food, wonderful ambiance and a well-curated wine list, this place is going out of business. We will miss you.
The restaurant is closing at the end of 2017. A neighborhood's loss!
We had an excellent meal at the Aquitaine. We have gone there occasionally before the theatre and always enjoyed it. The food is consistently interesting and good and the service is friendly and attentive. We were sorry to hear the chef/owner is moving on and the restaurant is closing at the end of 2017. We recommend that you go there in the next two weeks
Great food, great people running the restaurant. Really love the interesting creative food.
Wonderful food and ambience, as always. Heard that they will be closing in the new year. Will miss it
Food ranges from good to very good. The room is small and unpleasantly noisy.
Once again Aquitaine and our wait person were delightful. A very positive experience.
They were out of daily special we would have liked.
Overall an fun enjoyable dining experience. We’ll be sure to go back.
Very nice. Thanksgiving Day dinner was excellent. Would make no changes. The unique China was cool. Was worth driving 300 plus miles to have a family dinner there in Chicago. We'll be back.
The food was authentic and tasty. The service was efficient and friendly. It's a cosy and warm bistro.
Frequently dine at Aquitaine when we attend theater at the Greenhouse and always enjoy it very much. The ambiance immediately takes us to France; it is very well done. Friendly and elegant.
Our main issue on this occasion was the service. We had to ask for clean cutlery between the first and second courses. It seemed that every time we took a bite the servers was asking how it was. Relatively small matters and we again enjoyed the meal, but for a restaurant that gets so much right, fixing the details is all that remains.
Authentic French fare in a cozy environment. The turbinado glazed salmon, duck breast, and smoked mushroom soup never disappoint - absolutely scrumptious. Scallops were a hit as an appetizer.
The fois gras could have been warmer, and we were disappointed that the Chinon, an old fave French red, was no longer available. We 'made do' with the only (actual) bottle of champagne, which washed everything down with sparkling gusto.
All in all, Aquitaine is always a great experience. We've been there many times and will return again soon.
Fabulous food, ambiance and service. Never a bad time. Everything is perfect - down to the beautiful China.
Great experience and great food! I recommend this restaurant for an intimate dinner experience 😊
Great food and service. I like the many good menu choices. Convenient to theater.
We have been several times since recently moving into the neighborhood. Jenna did her usual outstanding, professional service. Chef nailed it again!
What a find!
Thoroughly enjoyed our first experience with this restaurant. This was a pre theatre dinner with friends. Food was amazing. The short ribs fell off the bone. Salmon was full of flavour. would highly recommend this place. Well worth the drive from downtown Chicago!
Learned about the restaurant on a theater's web site. Simple, but refined small interior; great, classic-plus French menu, terrific servers, and delicious, well prepared food. The only downside was that there was a party of 22 that stood right near our table, even though their table was set and the staff encouraged them to be seated. Our waitress had us move to another table and they gave us a round of drinks on the house. Will definitely return!
The food was excellent, the service was too. We will try it again.
Aquitane never disappoints. The food looks simple, but always packs a huge flavor punch. I had the salmon and it was so yummy, I used a spoon to gather up the broth. My husband enjoys getting 2 appetizers there as there is a nice selection. Chef is really terrific with duck! Wines are yummy and the service is terrific. Great go to place before theater or just being in Lincoln Park.
Stopped here after theatre and got a 10% discount, but that was only an added value. The real 5 star reasons are the excellent food, the amazing service, the beautiful decor, and the overall sense of escaping to a special place! This is an awesome dining experience. Try it & I know you'll love it.
Beautiful restaurant, excellent food, friendly service.
Nice place! The waitress had very good tips for us. The food was good. Drinks were great!
Wonderful food, drinks, dessert! Good times with our dear friend Sharon!
We've never anything but a great meal here. Staff is helpful and very friendly. The restaurant has been here for 7 years, which is a testament to how well they do there job.
Excellent food service and ambience. No hassle excellent dining!
We had another wonderful dinner. Chef Holly's dishes are quite delicious and Jess is so knowledgeable and a tremendous host.
We were there to catch dinner before a play, and told our server we had to leave by 7:30. She made sure we got out of there on time, and very happy with our experience. Excellent cuisine - a classic bistro, perfect for any occasion.
Aquitaine is great: elegant decor, relaxed atmosphere, and fabulous food! It's our go-to place whenever we go to the Greenhouse Theatre Center.
The perfect bistro. Cool retro music from Pomplamoose to Edith Piaf, just loud enough to listen to if you're inclined but quiet enough to not intrude at all in conversation. Diverse and delicious menu: ghocchi appetizer is outstanding, as is the duck entree; my wife loves the salmon. Charming and efficient service. It's become our go-to place for special evenings with friends.
This place have everything going for it except good food! How is this possible? The setting is a cozy bistro decor with banquette seating, a great bar, creative menu and excellent service. Granted we were the ONLY couple there after a movie but the soups were watery and lacked flavor, my fish was fishy and we chose not to be disappointed in dessert too. Hopefully, this was just an off night and I will return to try again.
Although the menu sounded good, the food was really mediocre and disappointing. I had the scallop appetizer and the trout. The scallops were tasteless and covered in a caper sauce that tasted like goo. There was some califlower added to the plate because it is an "in" vegetable, but it added nothing, and as califlower is bland unless perked up, it was like the rest of the dish, bland.
The trout was fishy smelling and also was covered in the same sauce as the scallops! The mashed potatoes had no flavor, not even salt, and the worst texture I have ever tasted in a mashed potato. I don't think my fellow diners thought much of the meal either, because no one said anything at all about the food as we were eating it. But we did not complain. Would just never go back.
Chef Holly is one of the finest chefs in Chicago . Aquitaine is a tremendous place to go for food that is innovative, fresh, seasonal and extremely well prepared. Recently, for example, Chef Holly prepared a dish with asparagus, sweet peas and moral mushrooms. You could not find a better spring time dish than this at any price, anywhere in the city. Unpretentious, this restaurant is a true neighborhood gem where one could happily eat every day of the week. Chef Holly shops local farmer's markets for items in addition to those which her hand-picked suppliers provide. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. The wine-pairing dinners are genius and not to be missed. My recommendation: go here soon.
Everything was wonderful food service and got us out in time for the play we were going to see
Wonderful place. My husband and I have been twice now, about 6 months apart, and the waitress remembered us (and we're not that funny looking, promise). Every dish was excellent, well priced, nice place. Definitely recommend!
Good food, good service, for a nice occasion.
Excellent discovery. Chef has creative dishes and services was spectacular. Setting was warm and welcoming. Bravo!
I have been dining at Aquitaine since it opened and have been pleased to watch it get better and better until it now ranks as one of my favorites. As a result I find myself dining there more frequently and enjoying it completely.
Wonderful food, great service, perfect ambiance. Terrific for pre- post-theater dining.
