I should preface this by saying we've been to Aquitaine in the South End (during the pandemic) and absolutely loved it. This experience was a far cry from that, and I don't think entirely explained by staffing shortages or supply issues. We spent a solid 45 minutes waiting for our food after ordering without any explanation of why it was taking longer than the tables around us. When it did come, it was...fine. Warm, not bad, though not good enough to justify the wait or the price. I was also amused to hear the waiter inform me that no espresso drinks were available, only to have him seem surprised that a cappuccino was on the menu. Overall an experience that wasn't terrible, but doesn't leave me eager to return.
It started out well, though the length of time it took to be seated was, in retrospect, a warning of the situation. Good drinks. The citrus salad was not accurately described, being primarily radicchio, but still pleasant. The tuna tartare was outstanding. But then it took something over an hour to get our main courses, which still showed signs of timing problems and were definitely not up to their usual standard. So while I still think one can eat well at Aquitaine - and they did the right thing and adjusted our bill - there is no escaping the fact that operational problems remain.
I had to send my mussels back since they were cold. This never used to happen before and I have been there many times. Service was OK and the waiter was polite but not great.
Unfortunately this was not a great experience in terms of the food. Very small servings. I had the salmon on Brussel sprouts and lentils. The piece of salmon could not have been more than 3-4oz, Mostly skin. The Brussels sprouts were very sour.
Duck breast was very over cooked and presentation was poor.
Mushroom pasta was the best of the dishes we had.
Cheese plate dessert had 4 dry slices of baguette, a handful of nuts, some drizzled honey and a 2 oz. piece of soft cheese. Really not worth the price and poorly executed. It’s too bad, this place used to be really good. Keep an eye on portions and product. Service was great as was the overall atmosphere.
Aquitaine is a lovely spot with excellent French food. The space is beautiful, and the sound level is low enough for easy conversation. Our server, Earl, was a delight. The wine list is well chosen and not outrageously expensive. The escargot appetizer was a special treat.
Great weekend breakfast! Great ambiance with music playing. Nice way to chill after a long week.
Went for brunch, expected to notch food quality, got basically greasy spoon quality
Pate is beyond words delish. Sole is exactly how you would expect it. So simple and flavorful. Cocktails are always done well. Service although attentive is very bland and I don't think our waiter said two words to us. Had no idea what we needed unless we asked. But he got the food out timely and better to be less chatty. Love the food and wouldn't call it bad service just flat. Highly recoomend.
Wait staff works very hard and are very personable.
Food yummy, attentive, very nice staff. Liked the lunch menu. Perfect for New Year's Eve Day.
Lunch at Aqutaine was enjoyable and delicious! The lunch menu offers a variety that would appeal to any palate. The portions are substantial and the cocktails are excellent. Our server was was so attentive. She did an excellent job.
Highly recommend Aqutaine!!
I took my daughter and friends to celebrate her 21st birthday and the service was fabulous. The waiter and manager were the only two on that day and deserve a gold star how they handled the patrons.
The food was delicious and he also served her a special birthday desert.
The onion soup tasted a little off. The sole was really dry! I usually get excellent food here - not this time! But the ambience is still so quaint and charming I just love it!
Cozy bistro with excellent food and cocktails and friendly waiter. Their French 75s and truffle frites were both excellent!
Our waitress was excellent the food was very good - a loud baby and a small child and after placing the order it took 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive.
I will die happy after eating their moule frites! Very friendly and attentive service despite covid staffing challenges.
We went for lunch on Christmas Eve day- pretty quiet but our waitress was lovely and the food was good!
Delicious food, great ambiance
Never disappointing when dinning at Aquitaine in Chestnut Hill
Lunch is back -- and better than ever. The duck confit sandwich was sublime. Outstanding meal.
The steak frites Aquitaine are a big hit, even with our kids. And can you think of a friendlier place, where the servers
Just OK. Restaurant has nice ambiance. Food was mediocre but overpriced.
Mark was a super friendly and attentive waiter. He really looked after us well. The place was beautiful and the food was incredible. Best steak I’ve had in America since moving here a year ago.
Many of the waitstaff had their masks around their chins. Surprising given sign on the door that emphasized the mask requirement.
We had a reservation. We waited over 10 minutes at the host stand and no one came to attend to us or the long line of people behind us. We left.
We had wonderful dinner special: gnocchis with truffles, short ribs, and brined raisins. It was one of the best specials I have had there. I hope they do it again some time.
This review would have been a 5 star on food if the chef hadn't slipped on the steak frites' sauce. Too much pepper and a garlic aftertaste. I've had it done perfectly in prior visit. Overall, I'm very happy to have this restaurant back in operaation. I'll be back soon.
The food was very good. We started with the escargot (which was excellent) and the mussels. My entree was the sole and my husband had the duck. Both very good. Nice atmosphere and ambiance.
The service was superb and very helpful.
Our waiter was attentive and the food was excellent. We appreciated being able to sit off to ourselves at a table for two near the front door.
Just bought a bridesmaid dress! So fun to cheers with my MOH a and have some fun
Two friends and I went for a Monday evening birthday celebration. The service was friendly. The sole meunière, filet mignon and mashed potatoes all very good.
It was a quiet night at Aquitaine Bis, which makes me worry about their longevity, but the food was excellent and the service was as well. My only complaint is that the tables are on the small side. A few more inches in each direction would mean there's enough room for the glasses, bottles, plates and flatware, but someone, somewhere
decided that smaller tables allow more people to be served at the same time. Not a good decision as it takes away from the lovely ambiance of this very good American version of a French bistro.
We had an enjoyable excellent dining experience. Our server Jaime always pays attention details. He’s professional, pleasant and very efficient. Our meals were delicious, one of the many reasons we love dining at Aqutaine is the consistency in the dishes we order.
Aqutaine Chestnut Hill is a must!
The food and the drink was delicious
Aqutaine has one of the best group of servers! The menu has something for everyone and they have substantial proportions. The food is DELICIOUS!
The cocktails are excellent!
We eat at Aqutaine regularly, at least twice a month and like their excellent level of consistency.
We had brunch on Sunday outdide on their patio. The service was great, we were the only people out there and while it was cool the heaters worked well to keep the chill off. If you are planning on eating outside wear warm shoes.
Very noisy. Waitstaff working incredibly hard and doing an excellent job . Reservations behind schedule.
No COVID spacing, very packed and felt uncomfortable.
There was a wait for table, not ready on time.
Salad appetizers were good both the roasted acorn w arugula and the boucheron; tuna tartare was tasty;
The main course sole meunière was disappointing: tiny piece oversauced on top of mashed potatoes.
Server was friendly but took a long time to bring water and long wait for food.
Great meal and ambiance. Very attentive wait staff
The wine list is 'corporate'. There aren't any interesting French wines on the list. We had a glass of Sancerre, white Burgundy, red Burgundy, and red Bordeaux. All of them lacked terroir, and could easily have been replaced by better wines at the same cost. The food is so-so. Nothing stands out. We had the French onion soup, sole, and the veal schnitzel. The sole in particular was poor - more breading than actual fish, and we would dispute that it is actually sole. Compared to the sole at La Voile, this was very poor.
