I must say that I’m still waiting to like this restaurant after three or four visits and being a big fan of the location on Tremont. The problem is not the service (which was efficient and friendly) but its the food. At brunch the Eggs Benedict were overcooked( soggy English muffin and eggs cooked until they were hard) as were the dry omelettes and even the two burgers that arrived well done and not medium and the French fries were soggy and not crisp and hot .There is simply no attention to detail with regards to food execution and that’s the case for all the meals I have eaten there. It’s not enough to have renovated and re-opened when your food is so disappointing.
I always love visiting this restaurant, as I can consistently count on excellent food and service. My personal favorite is the steak frites and a dirty martini.
We both had the steak frites! Delicious!! And you’re the only restaurant around which serves Sancerre by the glass, or half carafe. That alone keeps me coming back! Thank you!
This is my favorite place for brunch. You can make a reservation, the service and food are great in a pleasant not too crowded space. What more could you want.
Lovely food. Service was a bit over attentive for my tastes. Great menu. Will definitely go back!
We sat at the bar even though we had reservations because the dining room is too crowded and noisy
I used to love this restaurant but the quality of food has gone down
Recent specials were disappointing and overpriced
I think the service is not what it used to be. We returned for brunch on Saturday and that was disappointing. The last time I had brunch at Aquitaine was in the South End and the service was much better. In addition they offered mimosas and bloody Marys with the meal. That did not happen in Chestnut Hill. In addition, I ordered the frittata which apparently did not come with toast (or potatoes); it came with a salad on top, and when I asked for toast was told I would have to pay for it. I did, but that was really CHEAP of you. Also, my daughter asked for more orange juice and we were told there would be an additional charge. Understood. Did the waitress (Debra) think we couldn't afford to be there?
Aquitaine Bis has been one of our favorite places for a long time, but I was very disappointed last week.
Our waiter made the evening much better. He was kind, gave us many suggestions for wine and had great conversation.
My only little disappointment was the meat - I ordered a filet au poivre and it came medium-well and slightly dry - yet the waiter should have gotten 6 stars!
The food, service and ambiance were great. We look forward to returning.
Maitre d very attentive; food was unique and delightful; dessert menue could use more creativity. We did leave very satisfied.
It was a bit cold . Server was excellent and very pleasant. It wasn’t too noisy.
We had a delicious Sunday brunch in a delightful setting. The wait for the food was longer than expected, but the service overall was attentive, polite and non-intrusive. We will definitely be back!
Loved our waiter Chris. Food was delicious as always.
We have enjoyed Aquitaine Bis for years. This was the first time since the renovation and we love what they have odne with the space. Everyone greeted us warmly and the service was spectacular. Of course, the food, was as good if not better than we remembered.
Our recent dining experience was outstanding. Everyone loved what they ordered from appetizer through dessert. My husband and I had the sole which was excellent. My friend raved about the scallops. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed but elegant. Can’t wait to go back!
Great place. I go there frequently! Food is always well prepared.
Loved it! Atmosphere, food, service all great!
The four of us had a corner table which was especially quiet. Food was good as was service. A bit pricey for the suburbs.
We are always pleased with Aquitaine. The ambience is pleasant, the noise level just right for civilized conversation, the food is always well prepared and presented, the cocktails are fun and the wines-by-the-glass are well chosen, and the service is well trained, ie courteous and efficient.
Very good food, nice presentation. Ambiance doesn’t quite shut out the fact that you are on The Street.
I have been a regular at Aquitaine since they opened in Chestnut Hill. On the spur of the moment we went Sunday night. Not a great experience. It was so dark in the back half of the restaurant you couldn't see much. When I asked they turned up the lighting a tad but couldn't adjust it anymore. They told me it was "mood" lighting. It wasn't "mood ,fighting," it was just dark. When my burger arrived 1 hour and 5 minutes after we were seated, it was too dark for me to see that it was burned. Not a great bite. Not a great night.
I did like the addition of carafes to the wine menu.
Service was extremely slow, and no apparent reason for it as there were very few people there at 9:30 pm Saturday night.
Food was very good. Will go back, but hope kitchen is more efficient.
This is our favorite restaurant in Chestnut Hill! Great brunch or dinner. We highly recommend it. The menu has something for every palette. We also enjoy sitting at the bar. The food is delicious wherever you sit. The presentation and preparation are wonderful! We love the servers, they’re excellent. Highly recommended
Best baguette in town- freshly baked, beautiful crust, chewy interior. Nice selection. of appetizers including an excellent pate and escargot. Main courses very well done- most recently had the duck which was perfectly prepared. Excellent wine list, generally with excellent value. Professional but friendly and appropriately attentive waiter. Overall- one of a handful of our go-to restaurants.
We frequently go to Aquitaine and it’s our daughters favorite place for dinner so we went for her birthday. Unfortunately, we had to wait over an hour for our entree. Was fair, definitely had better there. Disappointing for such and expensive meal - and celebration.
I've dined here a lot. tonight was just so-o-o off. Previously, would have raved about it, but last night ordered only hamburgers which were overcooked. No one came by our table to ask the usual 'how is everything' and so we nibbled and ate our overdone burgers. Mentioned it to the manager upon departing; she couldn't have been sweeter, apologized, etc ... nonetheless a lot of money for hamburgers and a drink. Want to repeat, I've been here often and always loved it. So?? Do I return??
Food is just average. Steaks were delivered cold and the quality of the meat is very average.it is too bad as the dining room is very nice.
We already experienced this place for lunch and brunch; dinner this time was definitely our best experience with l’Aquitaine Bis!
@ Team: thank you very much!
You will get exactly what you expect: competently prepared, more or less typical French bistro food from good - sole meuniere - to very good - duck dishes - with just a hint of deviation - tuna tartare. Desserts are quite good. Wine choices - glass or bottle - are also as expected but varied and reasonable. The room is very pretty. Service has always been skilled.
A lovely evening
I haven’t been since the remodel, but so glad the mussels and steak frite are just as great as always. The place looks fantastic, the service is outstanding, and the food is just stellar. So glad to be back.
Best burger in Boston. Hands down...Sorry Craigie on Main!
It really is...
Plus, they recently had a major renovation. Even more elegant than before. You feel as though you’ve traveled on a 6 hour flight across the Atlantic and landed in an upscale Parisian bistro.
What are you waiting for? Just book a table. You will not be disappointed. And, your tastebuds will thank you.
Oh, and don’t pay attention to the rating here. It is much better than that.
Our first time at Aquitaine with high expectations and was disappointed in the quality of the food. We were in for Sunday brunch, the duck hash was barely warm and mediocre at best. My wife's dish came out cold and had to returned.
We have been to Acquitaine BIs a number of times. We’ve always enjoyed the meals and did this visit as well. But service was pretty awful this time - so much so that we may not be back.
The warning started when our waiter gave a completely wrong answer to my wife’s question about an appetizer ingredient. She didn’t know what it was but knew that his answer made no sense and gave up after a short conversation.
But the big issue, despite having a reservation, ordering two of the most pricey entrees, an appetizer and a fairly expensive bottle of wine we were massively rushed at all stages. Appetizer came out instantly, meals quickly followed, wine and wine was very aggressively poorer, plates were whisked away and we were basically not offered desert - just a dismissive “can I get you anything else?”. It was quite evident that they just wanted to turn the table.
We almost never do but felt compelled to leave feedback on the provided comment card. I’m doubtful it will be read but without knowing this won’t happen again why go back? There are plenty of restaurants out there.
We have eaten at Aquitaine for many years and have always enjoyed the food - the updated interior is very nice. While we usually have an excellent experience we were disappointed in our family birthday dinner on Friday night as both the food and the service were inconsistent. The host is friendly and we were seated quickly. The onion soup was great - the vegan corn soup was OK. My husband's steak frites was very good and my daughter's filet au poivre was fine but the chicken roti was so salty it was nearly inedible (both my son and I independently arrived at that conclusion and neither of us finished our meals). The chocolate mousse was very good but the pain perdu was very dry and we didn't finish it. Unfortunately the service was sub par as our waiter disappeared several times.
The worst service! Been there numerous times and last night the service was very unprofessional and handled very poorly.
Ran out of our Order. Offered alternative after long wait. Did provide a credit against bill due to long delays
very loud, food not great not worth the money salad no taste little dressing if ant would never return
Gets a little noisy when full. Our server, Hannah, was terrific.
