The food was very inconsistent. The salmon, chicken and burger were good. The endive salad consisted of a lot of endive and not much else. The brussel sprouts were overcooked and bland.
When we asked the waitress to give us a few more minutes before ordering, she waited 15-20 minutes before returning to the table--and only after we finally signaled to her. Another waiter bumped into my chair carrying several plates of food. Almost a bad accident.
Always delicious and consistent food quality with great service & nice ambiance.
Very nice ambiance.
The service was a little rushed...the wait staff tried to clear our plates three times before we were ready...
The food was good as was the service but the place was almost empty on a Sunday night at 7:00 pm. Both entrees were around $30 and, while there was a decent amount of food and garniture, it makes for a fairly pricey dinner. It would be nice if they gave each of us TWO gougeres at the start of the meal. They are a nice touch, but ONE each? Can you spare it? A complimentary little chocolate or sweet at the end would be nice too since there are no light desserts (other than sorbet which might be fabulous but sounded ordinary on the menu). But, if you are looking for a really good, authentic steak frites, there is no place better. None.
Excellent brunch dish of duck hash and eggs, though the hash portion was a bit small and was not accompanied even by toast. We were also oddly seated across from the restroom, which was fine by me but it appeared there were other tables available. I love French food so I'll be back but may explore other items on the menu further.
Went for Sunday brunch....great menu, great service. Food was uneven, music too loud, but we have always loved Aquitaine and will continue to return.
I would recommend this restaurant because the food was outstanding. Our service was fair at best. We had to ask for drinks several times. We asked for bread and he responded "oh you want more" and we said we had never gotten any !! The service was very slow. In his defense he did want to take our order shortly after we sat down. We said we'd like to enjoy our drink. That was a big mistake because I think he took that to mean we were not interested in ordering at all!!
The restaurant was extremely noisy. It was very difficult to hear the people across the table. We were seated in the area with the bar. I've heard the other side of the restaurant is not quite as noisy. I would definitely request the other side.
It's a good thing the food is good. That was the saving grace!
Fabulous place for breakfast/brunch. Good drinks and amazingly very reasonable prices. Very nice decor and just the right amount of attention form the wait staff. We will be back!
I highly recommend Aquitaine. The good is always excellent and the service is superb. We need our monthly Aquitaine "fix" but we also go in between fixes when we want a quiet classy ambience. It's cozy and romantic.
Ambience is great. Service was kind and attentive but difficult to understand. Food was good (app - great, duck entree not quite up to par temperature and flavor, chocolate bread pudding very good)
We wanted to eat steak Frites, a staple in a French bistro ,and were told they were out of it! It’s like going to an Italian restaurant and running out of spaghett! And the bread was totally stale. Unacceptable . Would not go back
They provided extraordinary service and were very accommodating to two friends catching up, even long after they had stopped serving.
The waitress needed some coaxing to give us and people around us good service.
The omelette and frittata that we ordered were awful- dried out eggs- minimal vegetables-terrible potatoes. I know many people who could prepare much better egg dishes. So disappointed. Onion soup was outstanding!
The food was great and the service was attentive !
Consistently excellent dining
Terrific. Asked for table in front of restaurant. Got it. Great food and always run into friends as it is a local dive. Excellent everything.
Great menu. Excellent servers. Delicious food and cocktails. The ambiance is cozy and feels like you’re in a bistro in France.
We live that there’s parking!
We love sitting at the bar.
Highly recommend it.
Server was MIA. Took our order and never once checked up on us. Didn’t come back until he gave us the bill.
Lovely lunch spot!
Service in the bar area was a bit erratic, not very good. Food was good, not great -- portions have gotten smaller. I do recommend the scallop entree though.
We were there on New Year’s Eve, with our three week old daughter. The specials were great and the regular menu was great as always. Service was a little slow on one item but overall was fine. The manager went around to every table and she seemed genuinely interested in how everyone was doing, not like she was checking a box.
Best of all, we had a three week old with us who was asleep the whole time and in a car seat. There was plenty of space for her and we were not made to feel awkward or out of place, which was great. I wouldn’t say that this is the place for a bunch of rambunctious kids, but no one batted an eye that we had a newborn with us, and she didn’t make a peep. I felt that they were very accommodating for us and made us feel welcome.
Very good! New Year’s eve perfect. Crowded but not frantic.
We had a great New Years Eve dinner. Our waiter and The rest of the service people were great
Our waiter was what we didn't like because we got a instant "tude from him. He was a guy with a French accent who came off as very snooty. Appetizers: BF had a bowl of lettuce for salad with the most disgusting piece of cheese I've ever had in my life on it and it was a crazy price, I had onion soup which wasn't good. It was not dark and rich and it was not flavorful. We both ordered the same entree which our waiter disapproved of and gave a haughty shrug and a "put off" face. We didn't drink alcohol which wasn't well received - same snooty face and shrug. The chicken dish was great, though it said mushrooms were part of the dish. I got 2 mushrooms and BF couldn't detect any in his dish. While the service was good, the waiters all stood watching a few feet away and it felt VERY invasive. The place was pretty and the folks working at the door were friendly and not snooty. Our waiter was not approachable due to his 'tude and this menu is hard to understand. It would have been nice to be able to discuss it with the waiter without being made to feel uncomfortable.
Great spot for weekend brunch as well as dinner. Menu offers traditional fare and dishes with a twist on standard offerings. I dine at Aquitaine frequently and always enjoy the atmosphere, service and food. Highly recommended.
Really top-notch service and management. The food was shockingly underwhelming. I actually just stopped eating mine. The service and management staff were incredibly gracious about it, but it would be hard to go back given how poor the food was. Both our dishes seemed like they may have been sitting under a heat lamp for a while, and neither seemed particularly well seasoned. It just seemed very mailed in.
Food is always good and they are in no rush for you to leave
We highly recommend Aquitaine in. Chestnut Hill. The menu has great options. In addition, they have an entree of the day.
The portions are substantial and the food is consistently delicious!! Great place to meet friends or celebrate a special occasion.
We also live their Sunday brunch!
Very lovely Christmas Eve dinner. I love the place, but the prices seem to have gone up quite a bit since last year. I had the pheasant special, which was not as good as regular menu items I've had in the past. Next time I'll choose differently.
Excellent place made even better by the recent renovations.
Always a pleasure to eat at Aquitaine.
Highly recommend. The food is consistently delicious and the servers are very attentive. The menu has an excellent variety. Excellent portions. Delicious cocktails.
A nice classic date spot with excellent service. We started with a rich and creamy duck pate. I enjoyed my modest portion of scallops and my wife loved her enormous truffle burger, which came with a healthy serving of fries. Each of our cocktails was delicious, though the beer selection was limited. A worthy stop on anyone's Boston foodie passport.
We had a great evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. The front of the house was just terrific.
Haven’t been to Aquitaine in a few years...same great service and outstanding food. Veal Schnitzel excellent as I remember, my son had the burger and said it was maybe the best he’s had. The crusty, served warm French bread and salted French butter absolutely amazing. I’ll be back soon!!
Aquitaine Bis is one of my favorite brunch spots! The food is always good and the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. The waitstaff are always great and went out of their way to provide a champagne toast for my birthday! Thank you Aquitaine Bis :)
The renovated Aquitaine Bis is lovely, reminiscent of the older version but substantially improved. The menu remains largely the same, with a few additions and subtractions. The food, at least the night we were there, was considerably less good than it used to be. It's early, and we'll go back, but the kitchen's performance will have to be upgraded as much as the dining room for us to enjoy it as much as we did before the changes.
Highly recommend Aquitaine. The menu has a good variety and everything is delicious. Excellent portions. Delicious cocktails! The servers are excellent!!
Scallops were floating in oil and were cut in half to look like more served. This used to be a good dish. The veal was so breaded and fried it was dried out. The burger was delicious. Would still go again but need to choose wisely.
