On Easter Sunday, we will be serving our traditional Smörgåsbord including herrings, salmons, rack of lamb and much more. The menu is served from 12:00pm-2:30pm and $105pp,

I cannot imagine a better meal. We chose the Chef's selection. Multiple courses each one inspiring and delicious. The waitstaff are attentive but not intrusive. The wine selection was extensive and excellent. The place to go for an unforgettable night out in NYC.
It was an absolutely fantastic experience! I was incredibly pleased with everything and I would recommend it to everyone I know.
It is a great restaurant. I got wonderful gluten-free cuisine experience and excellent northern-European beverages. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Exceptional Restaurant with Amazing service
I have been to quite a few michelin starred restaurants in the UK and i have to say Aquavit has to be one of the best I have been to. We had the seasonal tasting menu with the paired wines.
The food on the menu was traditional to scandinavia and was put together exceptional well. Not only was the food superbly tasty but it was also extremely tasty. The paired wines matched the food perfectly and we were told about the orgins of each wine and how it matched the food.
In addition to the excellent food and wine the service at the restaurant was exemplary. We had 8 waiters/sommeliers serving us and the service was attentive but not intrusive. Each and every individual was knowledgable, professional and attentive.
I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough and I would not be shocked to see that they get awarded a third michelin star in the near future.
Excelent restaurant, had high hopes when I booked the dinner and Aquavit fulfilled them. The service was amazing and the food was extremely good.

Everything and everyone at Aquavit was absolutely amazing
.....except our main waiter...we have had better service at a chain restaurant then what was given to us my him.....his support team were fabulous and the food was sublime but for a two star restaurant you really need to observe your staff to make sure they are up to par for that two star rating. If not for the support staff I think we would have given him a zero for his tip so he can thank them for the 25% tip that I hope he has to share with them because he truly did not deserve it.
Food was fantastic. The bonus was Carlos.
He was one of the best server experiences I’ve ever had. He should be the head trainer for staff. His gracefulness is a lost art!

The food was imaginative, adventurous, beautifully presented, and delicious. The service was courteous, friendly, and precise. We couldn't have picked a better place for our anniversary dinner.

As always, Aquavit does not disappoint. From the first moment you know you’re in an unparalleled dining environment. The service is impeccable even to the point of excessive—how many people does one need to eat a meal? The food is extraordinarily presented and worthy of the two star rating. As appetizers the matjes herring and gravalox were wonderful. Our two entrees—the cod and the striped bass—excellent. And the regular arrival of surprising and beautifully presented amusees throughout wonderfully enhanced the experience. It was our anniversary and we were initially welcomed with a glass of champagne and warm wishes. Aquavit is not cheap but there are few restaurants where the quality fully matches the cost. We’ve eaten at Aquavit in its many iterations over the years; it seems to just get better.
I had not been to the dining room in a few years for the more formal experience. It was exceptional. We both had the Seasonal tasting menu, but while the main ingredients of our dishes were the same, in all but one of the five courses were the preparations due to her allergies to diary and gluten. From the amuse bouches through the three seafood courses, the sublime duck, and the dessert that burst in our mouths with bright flavor and unique but perfect wine pairings, everything was carefully thought out and amazingly executed.
My friend as we finished one course said -“I wish I could still eat bread so I can get every last bit of the sauce I can’t get with a fork because I want to lick the plate clean but my manners won’t let me.”
Service was extremely attentive but never hovering. Seating was spacious and very comfortable. Tables were spaced far enough apart so that conversations could be private without ever worrying about others overhearing us or us hearing theirs. It’s Swedish not Danish, but Hugge is an apt description. My friend commented that they could easily squeeze in more tables and be a bit more aggressive on the service side if their aim was to maximize profits, it’s obviously not. It is about giving their customers a Sublime dining experience.
PS: The little piece of gingerbread they gave us with our coats was the best gingerbread I have ever tasted! Of course.
How this place gets a two michelin star I have no idea. The food is very substandard, have had better food in restaurants that do not even have one michelin star in new york.
Truly one of the best restaurants in NYC. It deserves the 2 Michelin stars. The price fix lunch is well worth the trip.
Overall a very good experience
Christmas Eve with our daughters. Food was good but service was bad. Several times we had to remind the staff about our requests.
I chose the three course meal. The first course of herring was amazing. The food was average after that. The cod was good but I was expecting something a bit more innovative and flavorful. The beet desert was actually innovative but it didn’t hit the mark. I didn’t even finish it. The service was beyond exceptional. However, that doesn’t justify the price tag.
Aquavit continues to amaze and delight the senses. The chef remains a genius at creativity, producing unimaginable -- even spectacular -- pleasures at table, which must be experienced to be believed as real. The staff are top calibre, and the ambiance, including service, allows one to savor the exceptional courses and appreciate one's own conversation. If one values life itself, then one values Aquavit -- an oasis for the celebration of life at the highest level. Long may it continue!
As Swedes living in Connecticut since 17 years we been very focused on keeping our food herritage alive and the foods around christmas are especially important to us so it was with great anticipation we made a trip To NYC to have the Christmas platter at Aquavit. Overall we were very happy! Its a great value and the food is exceptionally well prepared. As you sit down you are served a very good cup of traditional mulled wine, Glögg. The first plate is a cold plate with three different kinds of pickled herring. Mustard, glassblower and Matjes. A pice of perfectly cured salmon (gravlax) and a egg filled with a tasty shellfish salad (skagen). On the plate was also a nice little cheese quiche. The second plate had essential cooked cured ham, meatballs with raw sugared lingonberries (loved it), a pice of pork rib and some small sausages. The ham and meatballs were perfect. The ribs were served with a sweet sauce and little to much barbecue like for where I’m from but thats ok. With the warm plate they also served a very good traditional potato/anchovy gratain (Janssons temptation). They served it in the empty Anchovy cans! Very neat! The dessert was a panna cotta that was very good but dit not feel like a Christmas dessert to me. I was hoping for maybe a Swedish curd cake (Ostkaka) or the classic rice dessert ris ala malta with home made rosehip sauce but Emma Bengtsson is from the west coast of sweden and i’m from the very north of sweden so traditions differ. I would also hope they would serve a vort bread or rye cakes (hönökaka) as bread with the meal. Overall we were super happy and very glad we did the trip. Next year we might try for the buffet.

My closest friend and I have been coming to Aquavit for the last five years for a holiday lunch. I have a gluten sensitivity that I monitor myself, though this year I decided to let the restaurant know because I was curious whether they had gluten free bread (not recommended--it was pretty tasteless). I wasn't prepared to have my ordering policed! We came for the Christmas lunch plate, which is largely protein based, and I just don't eat a few things that I know to watch out for on it. The waiter insisted I couldn't order it, even after confirming the items I knew I couldn't eat were the only problems. I wouldn't recommend Aquavit anymore if you have dietary restrictions; they used to be very understanding, but apparently not lately. Also the food wasn't as amazing as usual. So with that, it's a shame, but we'll have to find a new place to carry on our holiday tradition!
It was absolutely wonderful! The waiters know their wine and food. Everyone was very attentive and very nice. The food was something fresh as it was Scandinavian style. The front desk person was very helpful and nice! Thank you! It is a very private location where people can’t see you from outside. If you are looking for a quiet place to eat something spectacular this is it.

The Julbord was wonderful! All the traditional Scandinavian Christmas specialties taken to perfection. A very nice experience.

The Xmas platter, I had, was very well made and designed. Everything was tasty and not expensive for a meal at two michelin's stars restaurant.
Still great after all these years... this review is for the Julbord brunch, which is delicious and great fun, but very traditional - not the modernist riffs Chef Bengtsson serves at dinner. Good stuff though. Great service.

Great food and experience. We had to wait at the bar which was crowded and was challenging to get the attention of the bar crew to order our drinks.

Great experience! Attentive staff w/ superb service. Since my husband has Scandinavian background we went on his birthday and it was well worth it. Food is worth the hyped, well deserved Michelin starred. Will definitely go back.
Just come and have a try for the taste never tried, it's quite good.
