Aquavit Ratings and Reviews
The food was quite outstanding as it should be for that price , however the service was quite over the top . We were constantly interrupted by various staff to inform us , very often about the same serving . It got to a level where it was quite annoying as we were meeting with good friends that we had not seen for some time and were frequently interrupted by staff with unnessary comments . Rather a pain after some time and it came across very ingenuine as opposed to hospitable . Some training required
Food is outstanding, very flavored dishes which combines delicacy, simplicity and taste. You really feel the chef and kitchen passion with food in the dishes that are served. And to top it all, you also enjoy a Scandinavian journey during the course of your evening dinner.
What a wonderful three and a half hour 10-course Chef Tasting experience from start to finish!Excellent-creative cooking and attentive service.
We enjoyed every dishes on the menu! Couple of them really stand out, the exceptional venison truffle (so creative), and the freeze foie gras dish just blew my mind! Shout out to Chef Emma Bengtess!
We chose the tasting menu, with 12-14 different dishes. Coming from Scandinavia, it was very exciting to experience how typical Swedish ingredients were used in a more american way, both in a good and not as good way according to us. However, it was a really interesting menu that we reommend. The service was excellent, with very professional staff. Worth noting is that no gratitute is included in the prices...
My husband and I enjoyed Aquavit on a recent Saturday evening. The chef is very creative and excels at both bread and pastry. She has a very clear idea of what she would like to serve and is true to Scandinavia. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We, however, thought the presentation of food was lacking. The food itself was over salted.
We, also, have an issue with most of the Michelin starred restaurants in that if they have an a la carte menu, it is available in the bar only.
We had the ten course Chef's Tasting Menu with the wine pairing. The food was marvelous and the experience was enhanced by the pairing, which was very well done. Every course hit a high note, except the Arctic Bird's Nest desert. I know it is their "signature", but it does not call me.
This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The service was extremely attentive. I did the seasonal tasting menu which officially came with 6 courses but there were also a few extra small courses added in plus an amazing tray of sweet treats at the end in addition to the dessert. They also gave me a farewell gift of delicious pumpkin bread to eat the next day! Highly recommended and very reasonably priced for the quality you get. I'm still dreaming of the duck confit that melted in my mouth. Also loved the bread and butter and the bread/water guy made sure your bread plate was never empty!
Creative, adventurous, and different dinner. We opted for the seasonal tasting which brought us out of our comfort zone, and most items were delicious. The other items were well prepared but perhaps not our cup of tea. That said, I'm delighted we had the opportunity to try excellent, Michelin-starred chef cuisine.
This was our first time in this restaurant. We decided to try the seasonal tasting menu, and it was absolutely excellent. Despite being 5 courses, it took us a little over 2 hours to complete. We enjoyed all items in the menu, however our favorite was the duck dish. The waiters took their time to explain each dish and were friendly. Overall, this was quite an experience.
Every dishes except smoked tartare and squab were not very fair with their herbs or flowers(and every dish have that). Atera, similarly they use herbs a lot, but they use just perfectly.
But they deserve to be a 'star restaurant' only by venison tartare.
Service was really good, i mean most of them were very thoughtful, but only a few were not. And u know, that few ruins every, always.
Being Swedish I am obviously a little biased but the sheer innovation of those dishes was amazing. Light yet so flavorful dishes and wonderful little amuse-bouches in between. Had the seasonal menu which was just the right amount of food. Definitely recommend the wine pairing too. The (female) chef is sweet and extremely professional.
We had expectations of this visit and decided to take the chiefs tasting menu , but got disappointed of following reasons:
Too much vinegar in the pickled dishes, and there were several servings of pickles, and also too much salt on the fish dish.
The vegetarian chief tasting menu had even more pickled servings and the vegetarian alternative didn’t match the “normal” menu, e.g. crab vs melon.
Our table was a corner table with sofas, meaning the waiters had to lean over two of us to reach The other two and that is not acceptable at this kind of restaurant.
The wine menu was the best part, well composed and well explained.
When I told the waiter of my experience of the dinner, the answer I got was, “I’m sorry to hear this” and nothing more happend, very interesting behavior from the restaurant.
The total experience was NOT a 2 star Michelin experience, therefor only 2 stars from me.
Incredible tasting menu - my fiancee and I chose the chef's tasting menu which was the most expensive but had the most options. It was truly an experience - the food was second to none, the service was exceptional, and I really felt euphoric after the experience. I plan on saving up the next few months so I can go again!
Wow! The chef in this Scan-driven spot floored us with her amazing tasting menu. We were taken on a journey with stops all over the flavor map: tart plums, savory sea urchin, smoky venison. Delightful textures abounded- crunchy saurkraut sticks, a frozen pate' that starts out dry powder then turns creamy in the mouth. Temperatures varied as did colors and shapes. Presentations were simple, novel and pleasing. A thoughtful, inventive and delicious tasting menu. compares favorably to some top-ranked restaurants in NYC and anywhere else.
Very good food but service not excellent. Waiters need to be trained to deal with and serve high end clients; many small service errors.
Also the waiter or manager never read my Opentable notes requesting a quiet table. Had to change tables to the side as opposed to being in the middle of the room.
Excellent wine list!
Having eaten in other 2 star michellin restaurants I wouldn't say that this was a unique experience. The food was ok (when we are talking about that kind of level restaurant). I didn't felt at any time that I was really enjoying a food journey. The price compared with the status and the city (NY) was reasonable ($500 including tips) but compared to the taste and the overall experience not. Best dish, the "nest", being the last dish. My reservation was for 2 people and I was seated in a round table for six. This by itself downgraded the experience I was hoping and expecting for my date.
