Aqua Restaurant and Spa - Duck, NC Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Aqua several times and it is usually great. This time the service was terrible, two of the three entrees came out and after about five minutes we asked about the third and the waitress admitted she had goofed and not put the order in. So we had to wait another 20 minutes for the final entree. While waiting for the entree we put in an order for drinks, the entree came before the drinks, when we asked about the status of the drink order we got some excuse that the barmaid was unsure of what we ordered. We ordered the deconstructed peanut butter pie dessert, which we had previously an d it was awesome, this time it was frozen hard and not as tasty. It was the off season this time and that may have had something to do with it.
We went after a snowstorm in the OBX and they were open! We had eaten there a few years back and had a terrible experience with food and service, and committed never to return. We we're glad we gave them a 2nd chance. We we're warmly greeted and taken care of. Our server/service was fantastic. The salads ordered were top-notch. The seafood pasta could have shined if the scallops and shrimp were larger. Scallops no bigger than a dime & shrimp were extra extra small Great special in a flat-iron steak. Side of shrimp ordered were the same size. Being by sound/ocean better quality/size would keep folks coming back.
We popped in for brunch on New Year's Eve and enjoyed the great views, pleasant service, and tasty Bloody Marys and mimosas. The turkey paninis and fish tacos were big hits; our only disappointment was the lack of any kind of breakfast items that would have turned a good lunch into a great brunch. We'll definitely return, but would love to see Aqua offer a full brunch on Sundays.
While visiting Corolla, we opted for one dinner out and found Aqua while doing an internet search. We arrived early for our reservation, so we went to the bar for pre dinner cocktails. The bartender was friendly and helpful, offering suggestions for both our drinks and dinner. We were seated promptly for dinner. Our server, originally from England, was efficient and delightful, bantering back and forth with us. All four of us had delicious meals, including crab cakes, shrimp and grits, steak, and fruit de mere pasta. One of our party is both gluten and dairy free, and our server and the chef made certain to meet his dietary needs. We highly recommend Aqua for a wonderful dinner out.
My husband and I ate here on December 26, 2017. We were on a post Christmas mini vacation to Duck. Things stared out not good when my husband ordered Maker’s Mark and diet coke. This is his drink of choice and he cringed at the first sip. I don’t drink MM very often but I smelled and tasted it. It was definitely off. Our waiter tried to make excuses for the drink which my husband sat to the side. The waiter did finally get him another drink, gin this time & did not charge for the bad drink. Shrimp appetizer was fair. We had the fish special, sea bass, was supposed to be fresh but it was very fishy tasting. The plating was nice. Flourless chocolate torte was good for dessert. For a restaurant that was rated #2 on Trip Advisor, we were disappointed.
Excellent food and service. Our waiter provided courteous and informative service; provided samples of beer and wine prior to our final choosing. My wife is picky about how her salmon is prepared and the chef nailed it perfectly, crispy outside but still moist inside. Great sunset views as well!
We've been 3 times in the past 3 years, and can't wait 'til the next time. Here's what it comes down to: If you're anywhere within a 30-45 min. drive from Duck, and you have at least one night free for a FABULOUS dinner in a perfect setting--then you're just gonna have to go to Aqua. It's just THAT great, time after time. There is NO PLACE anywhere in the OBX that will offer you a more perfect combo: creative, outstanding menu + servers you would actually like to hang with + a setting on the Sound side that (at sunset!) looks like some travel poster you remember from when you were a kid = Don't discuss. Don't debate. Go. (you're welcome)
We had our holiday Book Club meeting at Aqua and it was a very nice evening! They gave us a terrific table towards the back of the restaurant for privacy. The restaurant was decorated beautifully for the holidays. The staff was fabulous - pleasant & accommodating. Paige was our waitress and she was very patient with our chatty group. Such a nice experience. Most of us had the black sea bass special which was delicious. Lovely evening and we will be back!
We had a party of 7 and were provided excellent service. The restaurant was not busy and we were well attended to. As for the food, it was very good although two dishes were served warm not hot. The overall cost of the experience was acceptable and I would entertain there again.
Beautiful location on the sound with spectacular views. Very spacious waiting area outdoors with Adirondack chairs and a fire pit. Indoor and outdoor seating. Menu is not extensive but the food is incredible! You can get a 10
Percent discount on spa services within one week of dining
Another terrific visit to Aqua - the only downside was the weather didn't cooperate so we couldn't eat out on the back deck. Been there several times but had never tried the home made seafood puttanesca it was fantastic - bay scallops and shrimp over home made papparadelle - out of this world.
Can't wait to visit again.
Aqua is a yearly ritual for my family. We always cap off our week in Duck with crab and corn soup and a great dinner. My parents have never deviated from the filet. It is always prepared exactly to their specifications. My husband and I started with the shrimp ceviche. A simple dish with great flavor. He had the duck which didn't disappoint. My go to is the fresh catch which is never a poor choice. Until further notice this will be our "end of vacation" celebration spot.
We've never had a bad experience with food or service.
We were really looking forward to our meal at this restaurant. We had heard good things on the Internet and word-of-mouth. So perhaps our experience was atypical. The fish special was quite dry with an inspiring vegetable medley and the shrimp ceviche only so-so. The She crab soup was quite nice and the waiter was fantastic but the overall experience was not great
We ordered 3 appetizers (banging shrimp, corn and crab soup and shrimp ceviche). We absolutely loved the banging shrimp; amazing! The soup had tons of corn flavor but didn't actually have any corn and minimal crab meat. The ceviche was very onion-y. If we were to go back, we'd only re-order the banging shrimp.
Aqua is one of our favorite restaurants at OBX! My husband and I stay in Kill Devil Hills 2-3 times a year and always make a point to go up in to Duck to eat at Aqua. Sunset view is fantastic, food is always wonderful. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great outdoor deck with live music, and seating area on the lawn for a pre or post dinner drink! Always a must in our book!
Drove from Corolla for a date night vacation dinner. Arrived early and listened to wonderful live music on the deck. Dinner was delicious with attentive but not overly intrusive service. Shared the warm crap dip for an app which I'm still thinking about. For dinner we both loved the freshly caught big eye tuna. Perfectly cooked and mostly rare. This was the best and most perfectly cooked tuna I've ever had. Both indulged on dessert which were equally dangerous and delicious. It was a splurge night and well worth it
Wow. Beautiful sunset. Mixologist knows his game as the Pear martini was delicious. Nice wine by the bottle list. Crab cakes were divine. Soup was decadent. Nice gluten free options here. Filet was perfect. Make a reservation and do it before you even leave town to head here. It's worth it
