AQUA by El Gaucho Ratings and Reviews
We arrived for our reservations 5 minutes early and the table was 20 minutes late! Service was horrendous, my husband had a $150 bottle of wine and he had to fill his own glass several times. And to have the 20% service charge automatically added is wrong. What incentive do the servers have to provide good service?
We dine frequently at Aqua and always have a great experience, which is why we return. Our sever was excellent and the main courses well prepared and delicious. They took the lobster mashed potatoes off the menu, and they were very much missed on this visit as the regular mashed potatoes were good but not spectacular, which is the reason for only 4 stars on the food.
We had met at this location 40 years ago so it was a memorable anniversary and the restaurant made it special. A well located table, a signed card, attentive staff and a complimentary desert. An expensive date but worth it.
We came here to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday and, as none of us had been here before, we were hoping for a great experience. I'd indicated on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and had requested a table with a view, and we were not disappointed! On top of providing a table with a great view, they also decorated the table top with flower petals and left a birthday card, signed by everyone on staff. Such a nice gesture!
The food was super delicious and our server, Kevin, was amazing. He was so friendly and observant, always there exactly when we needed, but never hovering. Thank you, Aqua, for a wonderful experience for my dad's birthday. He really enjoyed himself and I will definitely recommend this place to friends!!
I went there several years ago and I liked the food. I decided to come back to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. However, the food wasn’t as good as expected. The girls at front desk didn’t make us feel welcomed. Surprisingly nobody asked us if it was a special occasion (which we were always asked at different restaurants).
By the way I liked the atmosphere and the server was nice, but I don’t think we would be back.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Really spendy place but you should know that before even walking in the door. Staff was extremely friendly and seemed to be on point with everything. I would suggest making this a "special occasion" or fancy date night place. Food wise I would recommend the New York steak strip if your a meat eater.... much better than Ruth Chris in my opinion.
The entire staff made for a wonderful evening. I had indicated on the reservation that this was a special occasion (25th wedding anniversary), and they seated us next to the window with a view of the waterfront and provided a congratulatory note signed by the team. The service and ambiance together with the fabulous food and wine made for a very memorable night.
We went to Aqua for my brother's birthday/son's graduation 2 days before Christmas.
Service: To begin with the dining room was crowded and super noisy. Firstly, our server allowed us to order randomly and since not everyone could hear what was going on, we ended up with some people having ordered drinks and one person (my brother!) had not. I had to figure it out and wave the server over to rectify that. Also some people ordered appetizers and others didn't. I had to ask to add appetizers after the orders had been taken. The service was REALLY slow, which wasn't a big deal since it was a birthday celebration but we were hungry (5 guys, 3 young ones all very active) so one basket of bread was gone quickly. I had to ask multiple times for more bread - what? This is an extremely expensive restaurant - did not expect that very poor level of service at all.
Food: Some people in our group loved their food so I'm giving it 3 stars. The steaks and the desserts were really good. I had crab cakes and scallops and was super disappointed. The crab cakes were very light on the crab and overall too salty. They were in the shape of a disk. For anyone who has ever made crab cakes (I have made many) it is not possible to make them perfectly even if they have lots of crab in them. Trust me, there was hardly any crab. Not impressed. I also had scallops. Scallops are one of my all-time favorite foods. These were seriously sub-par. Usually scallops come seared on the outside and a little soft in the inside. That way you get the lovely texture and a slight meatiness that is very satisfying. These were mushy. They managed to cook them all the way through but they were just not very good. Not sure how they managed to do that. For a seafood restaurant to mess up the crab cakes and scallops is pretty lame IMO
Between the noise and the service and the food, I was super disappointed that we chose to spend $700 for a party of six here. Next time I'll definitely take my business elsewhere.
We spent an afternoon in Seattle with out of town family members and ended the afternoon with dinner at Aqua. The staff were friendly and spot on all evening. The drinks, apps and dinners were all wonderful. I love to cook so when I go out I really enjoy having something that I do not normally have at home (can be a challenge). Some of the seafood was just simply done which was wonderful as we have such tasty seafood here in the NW. Shrimp were my favorite of the evening. Again, the service was just the BEST. The views are fantastic and the restaurant itself is lovely inside. Had a great pianist the evening we were there who was taking requests which made my evening so fun. I can't wait to go again.
AQUA never disappoints. The service, food and ambiance are always wonderful. We went with another couple for our anniversary. They decorated our table with rose pedals and left a congratulatory card at our table signed by all the staff. The service is always top notch at AQUA. Because of the holidays, the restaurant was packed. The service was still spot on and we were never lacking for anything. In addition to appetizers and salads, we ordered fish, filet AQUA, rack of lamb, and scallops. The spinach salad made tableside was excellent. There wasn't one dish that needed improvement. All were excellent. The caramel bread pudding for dessert was the stuff dreams are made of. Crispy on the top and yummy and moist in the middle. So, so good! This is definitely my favorite restaurant for a special occasion.
Frankly disappointed. This used to be one of the go to place for both great food and a bit of pampering. The menu now seems uninspired and definitely over priced. Service seemed off...slow...disinterested...mechanical. Not a special place anymore. I don’t plan to return until I hear of a makeover.
Their food was by far the best meal I’ve ever had in Seattle. This is the kind of place you need at least 2 hours to enjoy your food and service. Beautiful surroundings with live piano playing in the background just makes it a more relaxing dinner. They gave a free shuttle transportation to McCall Hall after my wife and I were done to go see a ballet was definitely a perk. My wife and I will be back several times.
Service was outstanding. I had requested a table by the window for a very special birthday evening and when I was shown to a table for 4 by a very large rather noisy table, I asked about my request. The hostess went to check and came back and said that they would give us a table by the window. Our server was also outstanding. She was efficient, friendly but not overly so and knew how to give us time for each course. This was our first time to Aqua and it was, all around, a very good experience. We will return.
On December 13th, I made a reservation for AQUA by El Gaucho as part of a birthday celebration. When making the reservation, I had specified that it was a birthday occasion and there would be 5 people. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess asked us to wait so she could check if our table was ready and subsequently asked us to follow her into the restaurant. However, as we got to the table, there were only 3 place settings, and they rushed to pull settings from a neighboring table. Why tell us our table is ready when it is not? This was only the first of several points of disappointment throughout my birthday meal.
When the server came to refill out water, he consistently splashed it onto me and the other guests on multiple occasions. Even the chair we were sitting on got wet! Surely basic waiter etiquette should include water refilling technique?
When we ordered entrees, we did not expect that they would have all the food served as a family sharing platter. As someone who really appreciates the composition of each dish, this was extremely disappointing because the sauces and accompaniments mixed altogether on the plate when it was served.
Furthermore, I had expected some sort of recognition that it was a special occasion, but there was no acknowledgement from the server or on the dessert that we ordered.
Needless to say, this was an extremely disappointing dining experience since I expected at least a decent level of service and quality from a fine dining restaurant like AQUA, who charges a mandatory 20% service charge. I have had better food and better service at comparable restaurants in the Seattle area, like Heartwood Provisions.
Often wonder how some restaurants get such glowing reviews? This one is no exception.
The food was very pedantic, unoriginal, and not very good. My wife sent her main back, as she was sure it was airplane food. Prices are silly for the value equation.
And the environment is in need of some serious update.
Although a Monday, it was two weeks before Christmas and the place was dead.
Service was good, but this should be expected.
This is a restaurant that seems appropriate for summer cruise ship guests.
Sorry to be harsh.
My husband and I chose to dine here for our anniversary. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and then we were seated precisely at the time of our reservation. Escorted to our window table that was beautifully decorated with rose petals and lit by candlelight, there was an anniversary card signed by the Aqua staff. Passing on the appetizers, we shared the most delightful spinach salad prepared table side. Enjoying the best of both worlds, my husband had the Ribeye while I chose the scallops with butternut squash risotto. Neither of us were disappointed. The staff were attentive the entire meal and took every opportunity to wish us a Happy Anniversary. Loved every moment of the experience and would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a dinner out that does not disappoint.
My partner and I were visiting Seattle from San Francisco and decided to have dinner here for my birthday. The service was amazing! The ambiance was great, although, I think would have been better during daylight. The food was exceptional. I did find a piece of hair in our Mac and cheese; however, our waitress kindly replaced it and apologized immediately. Overall our experience was great. We would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
