AQUA by El Gaucho Ratings and Reviews
Service was outstanding. I had requested a table by the window for a very special birthday evening and when I was shown to a table for 4 by a very large rather noisy table, I asked about my request. The hostess went to check and came back and said that they would give us a table by the window. Our server was also outstanding. She was efficient, friendly but not overly so and knew how to give us time for each course. This was our first time to Aqua and it was, all around, a very good experience. We will return.
On December 13th, I made a reservation for AQUA by El Gaucho as part of a birthday celebration. When making the reservation, I had specified that it was a birthday occasion and there would be 5 people. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess asked us to wait so she could check if our table was ready and subsequently asked us to follow her into the restaurant. However, as we got to the table, there were only 3 place settings, and they rushed to pull settings from a neighboring table. Why tell us our table is ready when it is not? This was only the first of several points of disappointment throughout my birthday meal.
When the server came to refill out water, he consistently splashed it onto me and the other guests on multiple occasions. Even the chair we were sitting on got wet! Surely basic waiter etiquette should include water refilling technique?
When we ordered entrees, we did not expect that they would have all the food served as a family sharing platter. As someone who really appreciates the composition of each dish, this was extremely disappointing because the sauces and accompaniments mixed altogether on the plate when it was served.
Furthermore, I had expected some sort of recognition that it was a special occasion, but there was no acknowledgement from the server or on the dessert that we ordered.
Needless to say, this was an extremely disappointing dining experience since I expected at least a decent level of service and quality from a fine dining restaurant like AQUA, who charges a mandatory 20% service charge. I have had better food and better service at comparable restaurants in the Seattle area, like Heartwood Provisions.
Often wonder how some restaurants get such glowing reviews? This one is no exception.
The food was very pedantic, unoriginal, and not very good. My wife sent her main back, as she was sure it was airplane food. Prices are silly for the value equation.
And the environment is in need of some serious update.
Although a Monday, it was two weeks before Christmas and the place was dead.
Service was good, but this should be expected.
This is a restaurant that seems appropriate for summer cruise ship guests.
Sorry to be harsh.
My husband and I chose to dine here for our anniversary. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and then we were seated precisely at the time of our reservation. Escorted to our window table that was beautifully decorated with rose petals and lit by candlelight, there was an anniversary card signed by the Aqua staff. Passing on the appetizers, we shared the most delightful spinach salad prepared table side. Enjoying the best of both worlds, my husband had the Ribeye while I chose the scallops with butternut squash risotto. Neither of us were disappointed. The staff were attentive the entire meal and took every opportunity to wish us a Happy Anniversary. Loved every moment of the experience and would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a dinner out that does not disappoint.
My partner and I were visiting Seattle from San Francisco and decided to have dinner here for my birthday. The service was amazing! The ambiance was great, although, I think would have been better during daylight. The food was exceptional. I did find a piece of hair in our Mac and cheese; however, our waitress kindly replaced it and apologized immediately. Overall our experience was great. We would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Aqua was amazing. The view, the service, the food, everything was spot on (and for the price, it'd better be). I always appreciate service staff that shares an honest opinion when asked for recommendations, and one that's not necessarily based on their own preferences but what the diner is looking for.
We had another outstanding evening at Aqua. The Chef served up delicious seasonal specialties such as butternut squash risotto topped with the most delicious scallops I've ever had. The salmon, halibut and black cod that others in our group had were equally delicious. And the table side spinach salad preparation topped with sautéed shrimp was quite a show! Service was (and always is!) attentive and friendly. We also love the live piano music - Christmas music was delightful. Book your holiday reservation now!
Probably my favorite restaurant in Seattle. They always make me feel like royalty. The service was excellent, as usual. The wait staff was very accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed my night out here, and would recommend it highly to both locals and out-of-towners.
I found the restaurant very accommodating to our last minute reservation. I had the blackened Cod and my wife tried in the Halibut. She commented that her food was cold. It must have been a timing issue bringing the meals out at the same time. My Cod was indulgent and perfect.
I commented to my wife that is was very presumptuous for Agua to add a 20 % gratuity to a party of 2. This is common practice for large parties but......a party of 2, really? I tip more that 20% and added for our server. Please do not add the tip for me.
Thank you for the shuttle service to our event.....that is a very nice touch.
We were celebrating 50 years of friendship! My wife and I met in 7th grade and we have been together since that first day we met. AQUA staff was amazing! Restaurant Manager Rena set a table that was covered with rose petals along with a card signed by the staff congratulating us. Our waiter Mikiya was so attentive to our every need. I appreciated Mikiya kneeling down next to our table to take our order. This is a very comforting move on his part! We asked him for his recommendation for both the entree to dessert. The Alaskan Halibut was amazing as well as their bread pudding. My wife never orders cocktails and she asked Mikiya’s recommendation which is tricky. He asked her what she usually drinks and he recommended this one cocktail that was absolutely right on! Thank you AQUA for helping us celebrate our love for each other!
Aqua is the place to take your significant other for a nice quiet yet romantic evening. The food was to die for, the serving size was just about right (maybe a little more than needed), the presentation was elegant, and the food itself was prepared to ensure that your flavor buds would be happy.
Food was nothing exceptional. Tasted like good cruise ship food. The service was excellent, but unimpressed by the appetizers (wicked shrimp). Was overcooked chewy shrimp. The scallops and risotto entree was ok. Risotto tasted thick like I️t was out under a heat lamp too long. The bread pudding was good, but almost too sugary sweet with not enough flavors. Overall, I️ would not recommend this place.
We really wanted to like Aqua; we enjoy old-school restaurants and were interested in enjoying an old Seattle favorite rather than something trendy and hip.
Our server was great, but the food was marginal at best, and it wasn't cheap. Food was tepid when it arrived at our table, and the preparation was decent but was absolutely NOT worth the price. The evening was made relatively acceptable by our great server, but even her stellar service didn't make up for the mediocre food.
We won't be returning.
Took my wife here for our 10 year anniversary dinner. We were on vacation from NY. This place had an awesome aesthetic layout and the piano player totally did his thing.
Look understand that you get for in life what you pay for. This place is expensive. Not for the tight fisted with money. That brings said this was an amazing dining experience. First class Service, food was amazing. We had the calamari and pancetta wrapped prawns for starters both were stellar. The prawns were something special.
For dinner my wife selected the surf and turf and I ordered the Chilean sea bass, again both perfect. Overall if I could give 9 stars I would. If you want to know fine dining give this place a try.
Aqua is the best restaurant in Seattle, period. The food is absolutely delicious. Of course the seafood is fresh and perfectly prepared. But the vegis & sides are so good, I could make a meal out of them. And the steaks are from their sister restaurant El Gaucho so you don’t need to be a seafood lover to have a memorable meal. Frankly the food alone would be enough to earn a 5 star rating but on top of that, they have amazing service (shout out to Peter and Lee Ann), the view of the sound and the Olympic mountains is breath taking and the live piano music creates a very special ambience. GO! You will love it! BTW, if you are celebrating a special occasion be sure to mention it when you make your rez...you’ll get a little extra “love” from the staff.
