Aperitivo Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Food was very disappointing for both of us. Waitstaff and bread were the highlights.
Portion was small and overpowered with a brown sauce. Companions spaghetti was strange shape and consistency. She ate half and didn't want to bring the rest home.
Haven't been to this establishment in a while but it was much better years ago
We were at the restaurant before seeing a show at Proctors. It had come highly recommended by several people. We were seated immediately at the reservation time but from there things went downhill. We told the server up front that we would be attending the show and she assured us she would hurry things along (although we had 2 hrs). I ordered an appetizer and salad as my meal and explicitly asked the server to bring it when the others in our party were served their meal. Another in the party ordered a burger, cooked medium well. My meal was served with everyone else's salad course, and so because I wasn't eating it, the waitress must not have put our dinner order in. When the meal finally arrived, at 7:20 (!!!), an hour after being placed, the burger was served rare (which my friend found inedible), however by that time we felt the time we had didn't allow for returning it so she managed to eat around the edges! Also, of course, by that time, my meal was cold! A manager came round to ask if all was ok so we expressed our displeasure. After giving us the bill and collecting payment, we were given a gift card ($10 per couple ☹️) and encouraged to return and "try us again"!! I can assure you, I won't return anytime soon, and won't recommend to anyone else, as there are plenty of other options in the near vacinity! The bill for 4, with an inedible burger, my cold appetizer "meal" and 2 entrees came to $144!!! I have had much better meals and service for considerably less!!!!!
We ate here prior to a show at Proctors. Our waitress Dionne was friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing. We both had the short ribs dinner. Owner Matt Mazzone asked us how our meal was - we complimented the polenta and he brought us an extra helping. What wonderful hospitality!! Every item served was top notch. I strongly recommend having a meal here anytime you are downtown.
Went to celebrate a wedding anniversary and a birthday. I was surprised to find a live band performing next to the bar. Although only 2 performers, their level of music was loud enough to be hard to speak over the music. Luckily, the wait staff was understanding and seated our party of 6 in a back room, far enough away so we could talk in normal tones. We each ordered a main dish, with some entrees offered in 2 different sizes. We also ordered a number of appetizers to share and were even treated to a complimentary appetizer. Sliced homemade bread was served with olive oil and spices for dipping. The tab was split and came to $104 for each of the 3 couples. Extra drinks were included in the tab. All of the food was delicious and the place was not very busy for 6 PM, but it was a Tuesday evening. Service was very good. Nearby free parking was available, but would not be very available on a show night at nearby Proctor's Theater.
The food was excellent save for the dessert. I had expected the tiramisu to be delicious and was very disappointed. It was actually very salty and more like a pudding. I would definitely not recommend this dessert. The waitress did take the cost off our bill as I literally could not eat this. Otherwise, this was a great experience. The burrata and the Bolognese were both superb.
We haven't been to Aperitivo ina while, so we were excited to get back and see how it was doing. Wow! What a success. The place was busy, but packed, and we were glad we made a reservation. The menu remains creative and seasonal. Our waitress was sweet and efficient and our water glasss were never empty. Cocktails and wine are always tasty at Aperitivo. The food came quickly which was impressive given how busy they were. We got out in plenty of time for the show at Proctors. We'll be back soon!
We are a fan of Mazzone establishments but after trying this one for the first time before a show at Proctors we were not impressed. While the food tasted good, the service was lacking and an issue with one of our dinners was disappointing. We love Prime bar & grill in Clifton Park and we were expecting a similar experience but it was not the case. Will probably turn to other options if dining in Schenectady.
A great find in downtown Schenectady. Excellent service. A creative cocktail menu; loved the bing collins. Started with caesar salad - real deal with anchovies but a little heavy on the dressing. Pappadelle with bolonese for the entree. Tasty but a bit smaller portion than expected. One oddity was bread served after the entree with no butter or olive oil for dipping. Still a very enjoyable meal and a spot I would visit again.
The food is always good. I'd love to see a little more extensive entree selection. Maybe add a nice scallopini, like veal or chicken, or lamb to the menu. We were seated next to the bar where I thought the guys standing around the bar were about to sit in my lap, plus it was loud. Service was excellent.
Brought my clients here for dinner and had a delightful evening. Though they were local to Schenectady, they had not been to Aperitivo Bistro so it was fun to discover it together. The food is basic and well prepared. The wine list had some hidden gems (Sinskey and 2 Turleys!) plus there was a good craft draft beer list. Always like supporting downtown venues when I travel and will definitely come back.
Excellent service, interesting menu, classy decor. We like Aperitivo for pre-concert dinner and can get in and out on a tight schedule. Arancini Clams Casino are a brilliant idea. I would prefer a bit less salt in the pizza. Thanks!
We have been here many times in the past before a show at Proctors and have always liked it very much. This time was very disappointing. We went for Sunday brunch before a matinee. It was not busy. The food was just fair. The Frittata was tastless and the UOVA IN PURGATORIO was basically a lot of sauce on a plate with a couple of eggs in it. The sauce was good, but the dish was not filling. Bread was supposed to come with all entrees but we had to ask for it 2-3 times before it arrived. The side order of hash browns for $5 was very small. The service was just okay. On the positive side - the bloody mary's and mimosas were very good. The tiramisu was wonderful and a good portion size. We always recommend this place as a great spot to go before and after a show at Proctors. Hopefully this meal was just a fluke. Food was definitely not worth the price.
First time there...enjoyed everything about it: friendly reception, efficient and pleasant servers, generous pour at the bar....oh, and delicious food, most of which was available in small plates, in case you don't want to eat too much, or if you want to sample several dishes.. Incredible proximity to Proctor's is another plus.
We made reservations to coincide with our tickets to "Beautiful" at Proctor's Theater.
All was going very well until there was a crowd surge. Things got a little crazy, and multiple staff began delivering the food to keep things moving.
As a result, my husband and I were initially served the wrong entrees. We told the server that they weren't what we ordered.
Another server came by shortly thereafter. My husband received what he ordered this time, but I received a pasta entrée different from the one I ordered. It took awhile to get this corrected.
