Aoyama French Thai & Japanese Ratings and Reviews
They tried to stick my friend & me at a table for two up next to a dozen other tables for 2 that they'd essentially turned into a long banquet table. I told the manager I wanted a new table. He said no. Then they put a couple right next to us in the left & right next to us on the right! It was like we were eating all together & my friend & I couldn't talk about anything except polite small talk. There was no privacy. Meanwhile, there were empty tables lining the window! What the hell would have been wrong with putting a group of 4 at the dumb banquet table & us at a private table? I went to the manager again & insisted. He said he'd move us & tried to give us the last table for 2 in the long banquet table row! At that point, my friend and I just said no & sat at the table for 4.
We had a reservation. They treated us like crap.
This was our second visit since 2016 and there has been a drastic drop in the quality of food, service, ambience and value. We discussed our concerns with the server who admitted to us that the new manager fired a large amount of staff and has been making a lot of bad decisions to cut costs. The food was tasteless and boring. The one dish wanted to get was 86'd (no duck for the steamed buns!?). The lighting was horrible - way too bright for a cozy evening dinner. The manager was the only one busing tables and the hostess was clueless. We will not be back.
A favorite of mine here is the Chicken Thai Rasamussen with avocado, peanuts, curry, and coconut milk. It's delicious. On the menu you see price ranges because the cost of the dish varies with whether you get chicken, beef, or shrimp. My girlfriend had a wonderful oriental chicken salad. It was beautifully presented. From the Japanese side of the menu we had a spicy tuna roll which was quite good.
I have been here several times and always enjoy coming back. I am not sure why this weekend was different - but the food was the best I had ever had. My entire group LOVED each dish we ordered - from noodles, to Chilean Sea Bass to a Beef pot - it was all so fresh. The portions are generous and the flavors are exceptional. While we hoped to have left-overs, we could not contain ourselves and finished everything. I was sad the next day when I had nothing in my refrigerator left over for lunch! In my earlier visits, I had been a little worn out by their birthday escapade but I see they really toned it down and I only heard a mild version of it - once all night. I do find it interesting how this restaurant is sometimes packed and other times half-full. Not sure what drives that but I was very grateful to get a Saturday night table with a few hours notice!
We had dinner here on Valentine's Day evening. We waited a long time for a server to approach us. We finally had to signal for the owner . He was apologetic and promptly took our order. We started with shrimp spring rolls and their mango noodle salad. Both were delicious. I had the steamed sea bass and my husband had a fabulous lamb dish which was tender and succulent. We love that it is a byo. Nice touch - a rose and a chocolate for the ladies.
As a repeat customer you always want to give somewhere you like a second chance when you've had a disappointing experience
This was strike 3 for us arriving on time to an overcrowded chaos filled evening. After speaking with the manager and still waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes we had not received our entrees and got up and left
PeopleAll around u who arrived later were all served simply unacceptable
First let me say that I've been to this restaurant many times and until this visit have always loved it. This time the service was horrendous. We waited forever for our food, when it finally came one of the entrees was ice cold. We searched for a waiter and I eventually went to desk to talk to the manager. He told me I just got there and I had to go sit down and wait 5 or 10 minutes. I hadn't just gotten there, we had been there a long time. The waitress didn't come for another 10 minutes or so. We'll never go back again.
We have been coming for years and love the food and welcoming hospitality of the owner and sushi chefs along with a few of the servers.
Aoyamma consistently delivers excellent food however on the last five or so occassions we have seen their service decline.
Unless we sit at the sushi bar our entrees are brought either before our appetizers or while we are still eating.
The communication can be improved between the kitchen and waiters as it is very disappointing to tell a server we dont want our entree when we are still eating an appetizer.
Also we should all be served at same time vs one diner while the others are waiting for theirs.
Overall their service has been declining.
The sushi chefs however are always outstanding and creatively delivering outstanding food.
The food is usually very good, although this time the entrees were not to the usual level of perfection. We were wondering if they changed chef's. The service was not as good either, I'm not sure if this was because it was mid week or just an off night. We were a bit disappointed this time.
Peter, the owner is hands on. He greets his guests, cleans and is genuinely concerned.
The wait staff are warm, patient and completely flexible.
My waitress patiently consulted with me and created a custom dish for me! And it was awesome.
I traveled in from Detroit to meet with customers and from the moment I arrived I was welcomed to be seated, served the best green tea I have had in years and the service from Nadia and Vick was exceptional. The cuisine was exquisite and I would dine here again.
We ordered with one waitress and she had no idea about a roll we asked her about. She never came back and we got a different waitress who couldn't help us either
My 7 year old was waiting for miso soup longer than it took for the rest of us to get appetizers and we specifically asked for his first.
Almost makes me think I won't go back because of it
Overtime we come here we thoroughly enjoy our meal. We went for a low key anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and the meal was excellent. I was only disappointed that I forgot it was a BYOB establishment and did not have a bottle of wine on hand for the occassion.
The spicy tuna was inedible. The service was very nice. They took back 2 dishes that we couldn't eat. This is a Japanese restaurant but the owner is Chinese. The seaweed salad was very good as was the the udon soup. The seafood soup had very little seafood.
Always a great meal at Aoyama! Such an extensive menu... something for everyone! I enjoy getting my old favorites and trying something new each time as well. We always get a bunch of appetizers to share and I always find someone who wants to get two entrees and split with me (like I said, so many choices, I hate to choose just one!)
