AOC Ratings and Reviews
We were over 30 minutes late in arriving at the restaurant and they opted to hold our table for us. The menu contained a lot of unusual items and it was fun exploring the different tastes. Our waiter was helpful in recommending things to try. The service was good.
The food, as always, was great but the service was horrible. No one even talked to us for 25 minutes after we were seated. When I tried to get someone’s attention, she made eye contact with me and then walked in the opposite direction. The food took another 30 minutes to come out. When our bill came, it included 2 drinks we didn’t order. All around a poor experience saved only by the fact that the food is good
I am a big fan of Suzanne Goine and always take special guests to one of her restaurants. I took guests from London to AOC for brunch on Saturday 11/11. Unlike previous visits to Lucques and A.O.C., there were some issues with the service this time. We ordered drinks at the bar and my drink was not what I had ordered. Our food was very good. After our plates were taken away, two in our party ordered a cappuccino and a latte. About 15 minutes later, two lattes were bought to our table. We had been there nearly two hours by this time and did not want to send it back and wait more time for the correct beverage to be brought to our table. It was disappointing and I hope a "one-off" occurrence.
I understand it's small plates but 3 below average small shrimp for 20 dollars was pretty lame. Atleast make it 4 if they are that small.
I ordered a bunch and the sea bass was cold and all of the food was average at best.
The waitress was very rude and made a comment about us asking for the chef to remove the shrimp heads off (as it did not say on the menu that it would include the eyes and head of shrimp.) Some people don't like seeing that and the horrible waitress let us know we were wrong for asking it to be removed.
The whole experience for 200 dollars absolutely sucked and I will never go there again.
Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne have created the perfect casual dining experience. The food is interesting and flavorful. The ambience invites you to relax and the staff, each and every one of them is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. AOC has become one of my favorites in Los Angeles.
The three of us were disappointed with today’s lunch. Spinach & chicken salad and two little gems with chicken. Food was not up the usual artfully plated standard nor did it leave us wanting more like it always does. Chicken texture felt like too much time was spent in a sous vide bath, and one of the little gems was a bit gritty. Service and ambience were outstanding.
Went here for my birthday breakfast. Sat outside on the patio and enjoyed every bit of the ambiance and decor. Food was yummy. I feel like the service could definitely step it up a notch. Receptionist/ front desk was very polite and personable. I would definitely recommend this place and come back.
AOC is an old favorite in LA. Old enough where it was slightly forgotten. A few months back we reconnected at the new location on Third. Loved that location when it was Orso. Love how they freshened it up and kept the greatness.
Food is inventive. Flavors are new and different without being ‘experimental.’ It’s family style so we shared - fun for a date or group of friends. Good for foodies. Good for locavores.
Well done !
Terrific wine, food and ambience! I loved the original location but this one’s even better. Sitting in the courtyard, I felt as though I were in my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. The kale with olive oil and garlic was so outstanding that we ordered seconds. When one of my friends asked for the recipe, the waiter told us that it’s in their cookbook and brought out a copy to show us. I bought it for her and her fiancé, and the chef-author signed it with a personal inscription. The perfect end to a delightful evening. And I’ve never felt more secure in a ladies room ;)
Each time I visit LA I'm sure to stop by AOC. Excellent wine list (though quite expensive), and really inventive appetizers on the menu. Food ranges from easy to share small plates, to some incredible pastas that you won't want anyone else to touch except yourself.
Service is prompt and insightful - even when we said we were only there for drinks and apps before heading to a different restaurant for dinner, our server was kind and informative. Actually gave us recos for which menu/drink items to choose at the other restaurant as well.
Very inviting place. Diverse crowd. Delicious drinks--- try the green goddess mocktail --- . Spanish chicken and waffles was fabulous. Duck confit would have benefitted from larger pieces of duck . Brunchmenu offered lots of choices. Service was warm and excellent .
We were seated in the beautiful wine room overlooking the outdoor patio. Service was excellent and recommendation for the number of small plates we needed was right on.
The food was excellent. We shared 10 different selections from the 5 portions of the menu. All dishes were well prepared and plated.
The wine list was extensive as was the wine by the glass list. Only small complaint would be the price of the wines by the glass given the known bottle price.
Intimate space with cozy niches, comfrtable chairs and moody lighting not to mention lovely flowers and fireplace....the smokey smell of something delicous coming from the kitchen. Warm and inviting this is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a place for friends to enjoy a meal and reminicse...
Never disappointed here.
My only criticism would be the same as for all restaurants in LA: the service is not as attentive & scrupulous as the cost of the meal should dictate. I supported myself for many years as a waiter in higher-end restaurants. I understand the job & the standards to be upheld, & in LA the casual approach seems to apply as much to those in the service industry as everywhere else. A diner should never have to ask for flatware or use a utensil for multiple courses or run out of water or look around for help. The solution to all that is simple. 1: Put as much emphasis on training for service as restaurants do on the food, drink, & dietary restrictions. 2: Staff the floor with waiters who own their stations & work closely with bussers who are teamed up with them rather than roving the entire floor largely unmanaged.
My friend and I went for a pre-theatre bite. We ordered about 6 small plates and everything was perfect except the steak which was just ok. The service was attentive and made sure to get us out in time. They were also correct about the amount of food to order. We sat outside in the lovely garden. Don't miss the dates wrapped in bacon or the chicken liver crostini- delicious!
Absolute gem of a restaurant. Service was excellent, wait staff are experienced, seasoned pros, the setting is perfect and the food is to die for - Comfort/Chic/Flavor Arc... everything we ate was another level of over the top. I mean who can make Chicken & Waffles seem like a delicacy and at the same time conjure memories of Grandma? This is an LA hot spot that is hot, AND really, really good. Not just a trendy trendy place to eat. Love it, morning day and night!
