AOC Ratings and Reviews
A restaurant with an attitude. I want to start by saying the food was very good, but...
...we arrived 5 minutes early, even though our table was ready for seating the manageress made us wait until the stroke of 7:30 before showing us to the table. Has this restaurant ever thought about giving the tables a good hosing, they are always sticky reminds me of a cheap English pub. We were going to have an LADine experience, but of course you have to ask for that menu as it is not delivered with the regular food and wine menus. Then you have to ask again for the LADine wine menu. Seems they are always trying to upsell. Then being jammed in with the crowded bar scene behind me and a table for 30 to 40 behind my wife. Overall a very unfortunate experience, will not be going back. But the food was good!
As always, the food was spectacular! My problem with the visit was how pushy our server was. It made me feel like he wanted to get rid of us as soon as we took the last bite. This isn’t the first time I felt this way... I always feel rushed when I go to a.o.c
We lunched at AOC as part of DineLA, so we were choosing from a restricted menu. Having said that, all of our choices were delicious. The stand out, however, was the Spanish chicken, which was not only very tasty but got a very positive response when we posted pictures on Facebook, so it not only tasted good, but LOOKED good too!
We ate on the patio which was a charming spot. Service was superb. Overall, a first class experience.
I have enjoyed meals at AOC for years and invited out of town friends for brunch. Unfortunately, the food was not up to the same standard as the lunches and dinners I had experienced. While everyone loved the ambience, the dishes did not live up to expectations. I would still recommend the restaurant for lunches and dinners, but they need to step up brunch.
The food was delicious and we love eating tapas style food. The caramel pots de creme was AMAZING! The service was pretty good/attentive except our server took plates away when we had 1 or 2 bites remaining on the plate and he actually took the fork out of my husband's hand. It was uncomfortable and it made us feel rushed. I think he was trying to ensure we were ready for the next course but still made us feel hurried.
Food, service, and ambiance was great. However we ordered 7 dishes for 5 light eaters and it definitely was not enough food. At that price, I wouldn't have thought we would leave hungry, but we did. I would definitely go back, but maybe just with one other person and make sure we ordered different items. Very cute place though and the service is excellent
Really disappointing New Years Eve dinner... bland salad starter, bitter clams ( burnt garlic), insipid oily fish... dessert was good. Staid, old fashioned ambience, indifferent service - seemed to be more interested in turning tables than providing a fun and delicious experience... AOC you need to keep up with the times, too much competition out there. I won’t be coming back.
The hostess was horrible... I never say this, but get rid of her. She's an idiot, rude and just dumb...
Food service, expediter, and back up staff made up for the moron at the front desk. When your a frequent fine diner, spend with wine, cocktails, dessert and tip 30 to 40% for good service and book with open table that says you do not like sitting by the kitchen, one would expect not to sit next to the kitchen when it's in your reservation...
I dined here at AOC for lunch by myself at the recommendation of a coworker. I work concierge at SLS but did not mention that just to make sure I wasn't given special treatment. I was seated promptly and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu!
I took his advice (and did not regret it) and ordered a drink that has cucumber, lemon, and some sort of spice to it. It was non-alcoholic and a great choice if you're brunching! I didn't do an appetizer because I ordered the steak pomme frites.
It came medium rare and was extremely delicious! Traditional French meal if you're wondering why a classy steak would come with fries. I enjoyed it but would have definitely preferred perhaps a lobster mac and cheese maybe.
I loved the design as well. A little too quiet for my taste but I was alone anyway so it was ok. Would highly recommend it to others and I will return!
After a very bad meal at a nearby prominent, upscale hotel, AOC is a lifesaver! Our server, Alex is professional, fun and attentive. The dishes are excellent - creative and bursting with flavours. Our chocolate dessert is outstanding and so is their espresso. Will definitely go back when we are in LA!
Although the food was delicious and creative and flavorful... it was rich, heavy and filling. When I hear "Californian" cuisine I think light and fresh. They said 2-3 per person... for tapas... but there were three of us and we could not finish 5. And we are eaters! So I would caution that if you are wanting to taste many items... you find a place with lighter fare. If you are okay with having one dish... this place is great. :)
We were seven for lunch A well done hamburger was so overcooked it was hard to cut with a knife. The French fries seemed to have ben rewarmd in fat. Six of us were not inspired by our dishes. I had the spicy chicken and a stomach ache for over four hours. The only dish that was nice was the falafel.
Not coming back.
The food was amazing (especially the Vinter's Plate and the Chocolate Torta) but the service did not exactly match the food. I imagine it was because there was a big party there and the restaurant seemed to get really busy all at the same time - however, with that said, 45 minutes is a long time to wait between courses.
Definitely a bit pricey but worth it. Hopefully the service blip was just a one-off!
I’ve come to this location many times over the years first when it was Joe Allen’s and later when it was Ordo’s. The garden at Orso’s was by far the best in the city for dining al fresco. Open air beautiful great ambience. This is the first time I was back since it was AOC. While I found the food to be very good, thoroughly enjoying what I ordered, I did not like the ambience. It was very crowded, Tables close together and very noisy. And the greatest sin of all they change the garden by adding cover blocking out the sky and stars at night and now it’s not nearly as pleasant and desirable a place to dine as it used to be. I would come back for the food and hopefully pick a less crowded time. We were there for Sunday lunch, 1 PM. Service by the way was rushed as if our waiter was wanted to turn the table so he could fit in another group. Not great.
