Anzio's Brick Oven Pizza Ratings and Reviews
We're newish regulars here. Generally very good, especially salads & pizza. Last time in, we brought friends and have to report that the pizza was disappointing. Undercooked, bordering on doughy, and over-topped. But in the restaurant's defense, it was pretty busy and I'm sure the pizza oven was jammed full. Not giving up on Anzio's - we'll just ask for pizza a bit on the crispy side next time around.
I have always had a positive experience at Anzio's but my last visit there, to celebrate my birthday with my husband, felt like a near disaster. Our wine was sour, the server refused to refund our wine despite the fact, and our salmon seemed like it had been boiled. For dessert I ordered a chocolate chip cannoli but instead was delivered a cannoli ontop of a puddle of chocolate syrup. Typically I would overlook such an off-beat experience but this was so terrible from the very beginning to the end, it's hard too.
Second time dinning here. Made the reservation and arrived on time. The establishment has two sections: a dining room, and the bar/take out area which has a few tables. Our reserved table was in the bar area and there was a couple sitting at our table while waiting for their take out. They were asked to move and we awkwardly took their vacated seats. Service was fine, but slow, as the restaurant was crowded. Food was fine. Several folks came in, ordered their take out, and then ordered beers, and as there are no barstools or other seating for those individuals, the crowd spread out and eventually encroached into our dining space. Not the sit down dining experience we were looking for. Manager stopped by to check on us, which was nice. We like to support local business but I don't think we'll be going back.
This was our first visit and it surely won't be the last!
The food was delicious. The salads were wonderful. Fresh, crunchy lettuce. No iceberg. My husband had lasagna. He loved it. Lots of flavors and it filled him up. Pizza was the best we have had in the surrounding area. Thin, crisp crust. Yum! The toppings were amazing. We tried many. Even my 2 year old grandson enjoyed his pizza. The server was very business like. Not much in the conversation department. The place could use some updating. Very dark interior and a little dusty. Won't stop me from returning though. Food was fabulous.
The food was terrific, especially the pizza. Service was great. My only suggestion would be to turn the heat on! We all kept our jackets on as did most of the people eating. It could be a super cozy and relaxing place but on that day I just wanted to get back into my car and blast the heat.
They did not have all the beers available on a Saturday evening - go figure. Alcohol is the biggest margin generator for a restaurant. How can you ever run out of many beers at the same time? We had an OpenTable reservation at 730pm, showed up, they told us that it is going to be 5-10 min. It took us an easy 20 min to be seated, so the OT reservation does not mean anything. The waitresses who greeted us was kind of rude as well, as if she was doing me a big service for having shown up at the restaurant to spend my money. This place came recommended to us, but I have to say we were disappointed. The pizza is OK, the crust was burnt so I would not say the food was good either. I won't recommend to others. If you want better pizzas, Pepperoni Express and Fancy House of Pizza have much tastier pizzas without any drama.
Anzio's was a nice experience. I'd definitely suggest reservations because it is a small venue. There are two rooms -- one is a small dining room with tables and chairs and the adjoining room has a small bar with no seating and a combination of high top seatings and tables. Children were welcome in both areas. The food was excellent. We split a lasagna and a small pizza. I'd recommend the Misto Salad which we saw a couple consuming nearby. We ordered the Caesar Salad which was just okay. The greens were not the freshest and the dressing needed some oomph. Everything else was delicious.
Our table was ready for us when we arrived. Unfortunately it was right inside the door which is a cold spot when the door opens. There is not a lot of seating so you feel like you on top of other diners and place is noisey. If you are looking for ambiance, this is not the place. On a positive note, food and service were very good.
Really want to love Anzios -specifically their brick oven pizza which is so tasty when it's cooked correctly. Sadly, the last 2 times we have been there, the bottom of the pizza is far from crispy. A hot brick oven should produce a really crispy crust...and a few times, we have lucked out & had that experience at Anzios; it's delicious!! However, I just wish it was more of a sure thing when heading to Anzios; love supporting a local restaurant. I have to admit, I have never sampled anything else on the menu, as we usually head there specifically for the pizza. Perhaps we are missing out on some great dishes. Anzios does a great business, always seems to be busy...we just hope they can adjust their oven to produce that crisp cracker crust that a brick oven is known for!!!
Great little "Italian" find, excellent food with a very casual setting. We experienced this place on a Sunday, so was quiet for dinner. Small place so seating is tight but did offer a nice bar / lounge area for adults too. Best Pizza around, thin crust and fresh ingredients.
Food was was great but it was very loud and annoying inside. There were also people picking up takeout and the setup forced them to walk through the dining room. Very annoying with people bumping into me, very loud atmosphere and not relaxing at all. Best for families. i would not suggest for couples who want to go out for dinner. Also a bit pricey at over $60 (without tip) for one pizza, an app and two glasses of wine. We won't be back.
First time here/ last time here. Went with my two teens on a Friday night. Service was slow but the waitress appeared to be on her own and stressed. I ordered a roasted vegetable pizza that had literally about three entire heads of garlic on it. Have never seen anything like it. Soggy in middle. Take out line was backed up far enough that people's rear ends and backs were pushed into our table. Whole experience disappointing unfortunately.
I usually love Anzio's pizza and food, but when I went on Sunday for lunch, I just didn't have a very good experience. When we arrived at noon, the restaurant had just opened and it was freezing in the restaurant. It's October and the high temperature that day many have hit fifty and it was time for the heat to be on. However, there was a lockbox around the thermostat and the owner or manager had the only key and of course, he wasn't there. I felt bad enough for the person working there, although she wasn't really that sympathetic. Frankly, it was just uncomfortable sitting there and once they said the heat couldn't be turned on, we just should have left. I was shivering the whole time, which doesn't make for a good experience. Maybe I will order takeout from Anzio's but I don't think I'll be dining in any time soon when there are many other places that will have an appropriate dining room temperature in the winter.
When we arrived the owner said he had no record of my opentable reservation. However he said we could be seated within 20 min and comped us a round of drinks while we waited. That is how management should deal with turning a negative into a positive experience. Very impressed with how quickly he responded and little did he know this was our first time visiting his restaurant. We'll definitely be back.
I read numerous reviews on Anzio's and really wanted to try their pizza. We arrived at 7:30 on a Thursday evening and were seated right away. The restaurant was about 50% occupied. The waitress took our order for drinks and dinner promptly, and returned as necessary for drink refills. She appeared to be handling all the tables, and did so very efficiently. Our only problem was that we waited 45 minutes for our one pizza. Given the number of empty tables in the restaurant, this was excessive. Once it arrived, however, we enjoyed the pizza thoroughly. Since it may have been an off night for the kitchen, we'll go back and give it another shot. The pizza was definitely worth it.
We searched for a brick oven pizza restaurant to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We eat pizza on the same day every month and this was to be #241! We were not disappointed. The pizzas were excellent as was the caprese we started with. I enjoyed two glass of nice Italian white while my son and husband were given soda refills regularly. And then, we had dessert. OMG! So, so good. I wanted to take extra pizzas and desserts home. This is the best pizza I have eaten in Massachusetts.
Very quaint , casual but comfortable. Table clothes a bit too busy for my taste. Few tables so make reservations. Serves wine and beer. Great service and really good food! Enjoyed it all. Did not try the pizza, but looked amazing will go back to dine or take out to try it. We all tried the homemade pasta dishes, all were very good. Good flavorful thick red sauce/eggplant and chicken parm, pasta dish with veggies all good, Alfredo w/chicken a bit too heavy on the amount of sauce, but good. Calamari app excellent. Shared a nice salad. Highly recommend. Cheese shop will stop in next time to check it out.
