Since 1980, Anton and Michel has consistently maintained an award-winning reputation for true excellence in the art of fine dining. A complete interior remodel was recently completed features handset stonework throughout the restaurant. The floor to ceiling windows offer breathtaking views of the Court of the Fountains. Zagat Survey calls it: Carmel’s long-standing paean to graciousness in dining out. Along with updated and contemporary changes to the menus, ultimate table side service flambé desserts remain. As quoted in the Wine Spectator, Anton and Michel is “probably the best dining experience in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea”.

This is a high priced restaurant. Lovely building, nice decor, etc. So why can't they order a decent chef?! Meat was overcooked and tasteless. "Cooked" vegetables were practically raw and needed to be cut w/a knife. The "glaze" on my duck was a watery sauce with a few withered cherries in it. My husband's meal was no better. The drinks and the wine tasted as though they had been watered down. The meal in general lacked taste or seasoning. Meanwhile the descriptions in the menu are elaborate and sound good and the whole atmosphere of the place is of a 4- star restaurant. So a lot of attention is put into everything except the food which was genuinely awful and left both of us with indigestion. Skip it!
We went for our anniversary last night. The place is really nice. The food was ok. It came out extremely fast and it didn’t feel like a luxurious dinner, which is the places vibe. The moment we finished a dish the next one came out within seconds and not minutes. The waiter was moving us along and you could tell. 4 courses in about an hour. The tuna tartare was a bit fishy tasting but the filet/short ribs were awesome. Overall would have been better if we didn’t feel like we were getting pushed out the door.
From the warm greeting to the friendly goodbye, our experience was wonderful. The Tijuana Nicoise Salad won the table, as did the salted caramel creme brûlée
Amazing spot for a romantic date or for an upscale dinner!
You guys got it all!!
We celebrated at Anton and Michel for my friend’s birthday. The food and service is amazing and they have the outdoor garden which is so beautiful
I was seated right away. Waiter was attentive without hovering. Absolutely love their French Onion Soup. The lamb chops were tasty and cooked to perfection! Definitely an enjoyable evening.
when i made my reservation, i put in the notes that we would prefer to be seated closer to 6p rather than our 5p reservation. we never heard anything back about this so we assumed our 5p res held. when we arrived we were greeted by a very rude host that told us our reservation had been moved to 545p per our request. it wasn’t until after we were seated did i get an email stating that our reservation had been moved. someone very obviously forgot to move it in the system and we received attitude for their mistake. the food was average at best.
We took our daughter and son-in-law out with our grandbaby while we were visiting from out of town. Renee was excellent as always!!! Drinks and food were also spectacular!
Haven’t been there in a long time
Ahi Tartare was excellent, Onion soup ok
Hearts of Romaine was insipid with wilted green leaves
House specialty rack of lamb was not good
Ordered medium rare and got medium at best
Reordered and still was overdone and tough
Very pleasant and efficient staff
Very attentive and thoroughly trained staff. Excellent menu with something for everyone. Worth the price.
Great reception and super services and delicious cuisine.
One our favorite in the Monterey area!!
The restaurant is beautiful and has a very romantic atmosphere. Our server, Tiffany, was very engaging, friendly, and professional. All the staff were attentive. The ravioli appetizer special was fabulous. Our steaks were perfectly grilled but were not quite as hot as we like. Still very good. Would recommend for a special occasion.
Fantastic restaurant in a beautiful location with exceptional food. Great for a romantic night out.
Excellent service. Poor food prep. Steak was over cooked and veggies undercooked. Asked for medium rare steak but it was cooked medium. Carrots were so undercooked they were difficult to cut. Vegetables were plain and unimaginative.
our service was exceptional from the moment we opened the front door and throughout the entire evening. We appreciated everyone who served our table.
It was a lovely meal and took us back to France. Great quality for the money. My only negative is if the kitchen closes at 9, don’t make the last reservation at 8:30. We wanted to have a leisurely dinner with appetizers first and we were rushed. As a result, my husband’s duck was slightly cooked.
Always very good. Good quality is among the best in Carmel. Disappointed that they have stopped making the caesar salad at the table.
Lamb Chops are sooo good.
We had the duck and lamb dishes. Both were super tender and tasty! We were all very satisfied with our choices. Although we were really looking forward to eating the flambé desserts, both were unavailable. We were told the shipment of ingredients didn’t arrive. Service was nice. Would return to dine there again. Since the shops
all close at 6, it was easy to find parking from about 5 pm.
Great ambiance, service and food !
Great food rack of lamb was excellent and the seafood linguine was great
Very nice birthday dinner
Very efficient and courteous service
A perfect meal for a special night. Thank you for a wonderful time!
We love the outside seating at Anton & Michel. It's quiet and relaxing. The lunch menu offers a nice variety of dishes, as well as a few specials. Everything we have tried over the years has been very good. Their bar area and menu are also a fun experience.
Great service. Have been coming for 30 years.
Always such a beautiful setting with delicious food. Engaging and thoughtful staff. Thank you for making our special occasion…extra, extra special!
We went here to celebrate 50 years of our first meeting. Regrettably, we had a very poor experience here. With 6:00 reservations made a week in advance we were still seated at a terrible table ( the dining room was only half full) near the door to the outdoor patio and the wait staff kept opening it and exposing us to cold blasts of air. We ordered a filet mignon and a rack of lamb, both medium rare. The filet came out medium plus and the rack came out rare. We sent back the filet (should have sent both back) and waited quite a while for a new one to come. When it came is was very rare (blood red). At that point we called it an evening. The maitre d' came back and told us they were sorry but they were training a new chef and they would comp us a desert and coffee. What a terrible excuse for three incorrectly prepared entrees which were sent out with no quality control.
Absolutely delicious food.
The duck was mediocre at best with a singular mild flavor. Beet salad was completely bland and too cold. Even their signature French onion soup was a small dollop of cheese floating in a tasteless broth. Ridiculous. Should have been a crusty layer of bead and cheese overflowing the cup. Just horrible.
We were celebrating our anniversary.
Even though we noted that while making reservations we were informed by our waiter that they did nothing special for anniversaries and they didn’t.
Why ask ahead of time????
Our family had an outstanding experience!!! The food was excellent and the setting in the bar, the dining room and the patio is beautiful!
Always an exceptional choice in Carmel. Either the bar or restaurant side is a great choice.
The atmosphere and Host at the front were very good and friendly. The food was very good and prepared as requested. The bartender and wait staff were not attentive or friendly and somewhat ruined the experience. Had much better service at some of the lower priced restaurants in Carmel.
When in Carmel this is our favorite upscale place to eat. I always get the same thing because it is always delicious and consistently great. I ordered the duck again and this time it didn’t hit the mark. I should’ve said something right away. It was dry looking and over cooked. I ha r told many people that this is he he’s sick anywhere with melt-in-your mouth meat.
He served was the best thing about the evening - didn’t catch her name but she has been there a long time. She suggested the ravioli of the day and it was the best dish we had. SO good I wish I had ordered two for my entree.
My friendsNate going there tomorrow so I hope the duck is more tender. The rack of lamb is always wonderful also!
No nonsense food. Duck was prepared well with a nice sauce .
Great service, great atmosphere and great food. We will come back next time we are in town.
Excellent restaurant with a long tradition of fine dining in Carmel.
Calm and sophisticated atmosphere, delicious food, imaginative presentation - an experience that delights body and soul.
Consistently excellent food. Service is always wonderful. Always ask about the soup of the day. French onion soup is always delicious as is the ravioli.
This was our last night in Carmel and found this place as an impeccable send away. Fabulous dining experience highlighted with great food, service and ambience. Without question, the restaurant is second to none in Carmel. We cannot recommend this place enough.
