About Antico Forno
Top Ten Italian Restaurants Around the World: 9. Antico Forno Boston, MA
Antico Forno is billed as “The Most Authentic Italian Restaurant,” and we’re hard pressed to argue. This mainstay in Boston’s North End manages a cozy mom-and-pop atmosphere with world-class traditional cuisine. Entrees like Saltimbocca di Pollo and Linguine al Frutti di Mare hearken back to the old country, but Antico Forno is best known for its brick-oven pizzas piled high with house-made Italian sausages and mozzarella.

Antico Forno Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent. However, we had a reservation for 7 pm, arrived on time, and werent sat till almost 7:40 pm. Looks like they expanded their dining area from the last time we were there. Great for them, not so great for eating in. Restaurant was inordinately loud.
Straightforward Italian dishes at a reasonable price. The place was filled with families and had a low key atmosphere. Great for comfort food when you just feel like a plate of pasta and want it to be casual, delivered quickly, and enjoy a no-fuss restaurant.
One of the best meals I have had in a long time! The restaurant was packed, and because it was so busy the service was a bit slow, but the food completely made up for that. Had the antipasto as an appetizer, delicious! It's an old school antipasto plate like I grew up eating. My sister had the gnocchi and I had the rigatoni (the one with the mushrooms). Both of our meals were outstanding! I will definitely be going back!
This is hands down my favourite restaurant in Boston. All of the menu items could be ordered. My favourite is the sasuage pasta with ricotta cheese. Pizza looks good too.
Excellent service and atmosphere. Nice sute bar to wait at for your table.
Worth a visit.
The food was okay, but the service was really bad, our waiter was very uninterested and often couldn't even remember who ordered what. On top of this, when we gave our tip he turned back to us and very rudely commented on the fact that according to him we hadn't tipped him enough.
I would definitely not come back to this restaurant.
Once the server arrived at our table, service was excellent. (It took a while for service to begin.) We were there to celebrate a special occasion, which I had explained when I booked out reservation for 6 people, but that went lost and no acknowledgment was made at any time during the evening. We were seated at a rather small table for 6 but the energy of the restaurant was palpable so I was eager to enjoy our experience. Because of the company I did, but my enjoyment was diminished by how crowded the restaurant was, with little room for even the wait staff to walk, ( our chairs were bumping the next table's chairs) and it was so noisy that I said to myself that that might be the reason not to return. Overall, too hectic and loud.
Each time we've been to Antico Forno we've had an enjoyable experience. The restaurant can be loud at times due to the acoustics (brick, stone & tile) but conversation was never a problem. It seems no matter what day or season we eat there it is always crowded. Consistently great food will always have it's following. The service was attentive in spite of the dinner rush but they also gave you plenty of time to enjoy each course without feeling rushed. We always say we're going to try other restaurants in the North End, (God knows there are enough of them) yet we almost always find our way back to Antico Forno.
Have been going to Antico Forno for years. The quality of their food has been deteriorating. This will be our last visit - the food was almost inedible. Our favorite dishes were unrecognizable, very salty and didn't taste at all like they have every time over the years.
Food was very tasty. Started with Olives marinated in oil with garlic that was incredible for dipping the fresh bread. Pizza was a light thin crust prepared very well with tasty sauce. Gnochi was very good and fresh as was the Rigatoni. My wife wouldn't share her seafood pasta which tells me that it was very very good. Overall very good dining experience with tasty food and friendly service.
Food was just OK Chicken was dry, Risotto was although cooked well featured porcini mushrooms that really were an after thought to the dish, the Calamari appetizer was dry and understated truly bland, the antipaste was ok except for the meat (it was stringy and hard to eat)the chicken saltinbocca had little or no proscuitto and fresh sage, and the veal and pasta was ground and not shredded as described. The bread and olives with oil were very good. We didn't stay for dessert.
I thought that atmosphere of Antico Forno was great. It was slightly loud, but full of energy. The host was awesome. He was young and fun and it was refreshing to show up to a restaurant and not have someone speak to you in a robotic manner. The food was pretty good and the portion size was perfect! Although I thought the portion was perfect, I wasn’t crazy about what I got for the price. The service could also have been better. Our waiter was no very personable and you could tell we were just another table for him. It also took a good 15 to 20 minutes for us to get our drinks ( because he left us sitting there that long) and another 10 to get some bread. He also never checked on us to see how things were going.
I went to this restaurant twice during my stay in Boston! It was a true find...affordable yet fantastic. As a vegetarian sometimes it's hard to find amazing meals but the choices here were great, and the taste was simply delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
