About

Top Ten Italian Restaurants Around the World: 9. Antico Forno Boston, MA
Antico Forno is billed as “The Most Authentic Italian Restaurant,” and we’re hard pressed to argue. This mainstay in Boston’s North End manages a cozy mom-and-pop atmosphere with world-class traditional cuisine. Entrees like Saltimbocca di Pollo and Linguine al Frutti di Mare hearken back to the old country, but Antico Forno is best known for its brick-oven pizzas piled high with house-made Italian sausages and mozzarella.

Waited 45 minutes even with reservation. Way too loud...party of 6 couldn't hear across the table. Limited bar menu (only flavored vodka, weird). Good food for the value, but not outstanding.

Great North End restaurant. Comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Wonderful food, friendly and attentive staff, affordable. I've eaten here several times and have never been disappointed.

We had a great experience for a girl's night holiday dinner on a Saturday in December. Thank you to Donna for not rushing us and allowing us to catch up and enjoy appetizers, entrees, and splitting a bottle of wine and the delicious Tiramisu. Donna was a great server who provided advice when requested. The arancini alone is worth the return trip. My chicken parmigiana was very good. I've been here several times before over the years, and cannot wait to return again. I selected the restaurant for my group, so I appreciate another great meal, service and atmosphere again!

I thought the restaurant was great And the food was delicious. My waiter, couldn't say nicer things about him he was awesome.
My only complaint is I had a 7 p.m. reservation that the hostess couldn't find
( we weren't the only people this happened to) so my best friend and I had to wait in the freezing cold for 20 minutes while a table opened up. Then when we walked back inside I seen my name on the screen in red as a no-show. overall the food was great just wish they were on top of their reservations

Great good, average service. Definitely make reservations as this is a hot spot. No where to stand, however when waiting for table as there bar was full and crowded.

I had the Spaghetti with clams and the spaghetti was overcooked and soggy, and there was too much garlic which over powered the clams.

DELICIOUS, went on a triple date here, we were a half hour late for our reset the and they were still able to accommodate us! Service was good and the food was even better, great traditional style Italian pizza, better than Regina's. My girlfriend got lobster ravioli and finished it faster than the whole table and she never finishes her meals, amazing she says.

We had our reservation for 9pm and were seated at around 9.30pm despite being there since 8.30pm. We were a little annoyed by that but the waiting definitely paid of. Best food I've had in a while.

This place is small and has tables packed in really tight. Noise level was crazy!! Couldn't hear the person sitting next to me at our table. Restaurant does not have a full bar so hubby was not happy without his Grey Goose. Food came out quickly! Antipasto was fabulous! Everyone was pleased with their meals.

The pasta and the seafood which comes with it was over cooked. The pasta was terribly soft and moreover it was defended by the waitress. She blamed us for not asking "al dente"! Terrible overall.

We have been coming here for years with friends and family. The food and service is always great. It's always a good idea to call ahead or use the Open Table app to make reservations because this place is very popular.

We had a reservation which they took us to our table almost an hour after. We had a very unfriendly waitress who never checked on us once the food came. The quality and fast of the food was very poor considering the price. Would not go back!

I cannot say enough about how great this place was. I went on a Wednesday evening and walked in around 5:20pm and it was dead. The service was great, I sat at the bar and waited for my friend, it was so peaceful and cozy. The dinner rush happened while we were there but service was never missed and the food was spectacular. The pasta tasted so fresh and the mussels were incredible. I'm craving them while I type this.. I definitely recommend this spot as a North End favorite off the beaten path a bit if you want a break from Hanover.

The restaurant books 60-80% of their tables to groups 12 and larger. The 2, 3 or 4 tops are at a real disadvantage. The staff acknowledges the problem but apparently management is unwilling to do anything about it. I will not be back. There are plenty of great Italian restaurants in Little Italy and beyond. Antico Forno is ruining their business.

The restaurant was packed and although we had a reservation, they were clearly overbooked on this particular Friday night and our party of 6 was not seated until 1 hour beyond our reservation time, and into a space intended for 4, later expanded to 6 once the tables started to thin out. Best dishes were the wonderful fettuccine Bolognese, vegetable bean soup (a delicious meal in itself), and the pizza. The baked dishes arrive at the table much too hot to eat and have had so much oven heat applied that there are no individual flavors to discern. Stick with pasta and pizza and soup. The antipasto platter is terrific as well. The atmosphere is busy and loud and once we were finally seated, was a great place for a group meal with mood in the room spirited. Our server was overworked but patient and efficient and quick.

Disappointed that there was no place to hang up your coat, and when I asked the hostess she just said "you can put it on the back of your chair" and smiled and walked away. A restaurant in a cold weather city like Boston should have a place for coats and jackets.

Went to Antico Forno for lunch and was very satisfied with my experience. I was surprised with how reasonable the prices were, considering the quality of the food (great). One of the better North End dining experiences I've had thus far.

The hostess was terrible. We were seated 30min after our reservation and we didn't get a waiter for another 15min after sitting. There is no point in accepting reservations if you aren't going to honor them - really disappointing.

Food was very good, but our waitress was a bit cranky. It was very loud, but we know that's how most restaurants n the North End are. Also, they charged us an extra dollar when we checked our bank statement. Not a big deal, but not sure why.
