Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe
We do not accept reservations for The Tavern or deck.
Limited menu. Food was very poor - greasy from frozen, even French fries.
Great place great food great service.
Beautiful location and excellent food. Amazing venue. Never disappointed
The staff was attentive and professional. We were surprised that the host, the bartender, the chef and the waiter all congratulated us on our anniversary. A special touch
You cannot find a more beautiful spot than this for a dinner overlooking thr water especially at sunset. Food was excellent.
WhT a find! We stumbled across this restaurant by pure serendipity. It was just a couple days since they’d reopened but everything was just about perfect! A corner table surrounded by windows to watch the sunset, the ocean and a distant Boston skyline, terrific food, great wine and good service.
This is a very old school place. It’s a formal dining room, you’re greeted by men in full suits and the clientele seemed mostly to be regulars. The food is very traditional, nothing exciting, but excellently prepared with good fresh ingredients. And yet it’s not stuffy or uncomfortable. We showed up in jeans and sneakers and felt entirely comfortable.
It was our first time, but we’ll be back!
My friend and I went for lunch. It is only 5 to 10 minutes from Zimman’s. Great restaurant. They even had popovers. Going back again.
This is one of my favorite restaurants and have been coming here for 30 years. Food is outstanding and our server was great. View is exceptional. Only one complaint. I had requested a window table 30 hours in advance. I called again two hours before and reminded them that we were entertaining a guest from Texas and requested a window.. I know it not a guarantee. But there was a window seat for five that was open and since we had three I didn’t object. But right after we got seated the same man who seated us changed the window seat to four and seated another party. I was very annoyed
It won’t prevent me from going back but it really left me with less than a perfect experience. Or the way to keep customers coming back.
What a terrific meal! We were a party of 9- three generations of family- and EVERYONE was happy!!! The food was wonderful and the service was excellent!! Made our little celebration that much more special!
The last of the classic Boston seafood fine dining rooms. Beautiful room with great view. 10 minutes from downtown Boston, with free parking. Very reasonably priced, especially compared with the new crop of over-priced, over-rated establishments in the Seaport. Excellent service and a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
It has been a few years that dining at the Hawthorne by the Sea has been this enjoyable - the service was excellent, the food came out at an easy pace and hot, and management made a good effort to be engaged. I eat there at least twice a year and travel in from Bedford. The experience was worthy of and compared with the Athanas reputation back in the day.
Only one minor issue - I understand that the restaurant cannot "fight the times" but t-shirts and blue jeans do not fit in such a nice establishment.
This is my second time there and both times I loved it. The services was great and the food was fantastic. The views of the water are also beautiful which makes it an even more positive experience.
Valentines date was great, Irish waitress is pleasant and helpful, as always
Expensive but very good food, service and ambience.
The food was excellent. An old time favorite
Our waitress was fabulous! Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Kiera Burton was an excellent server! She was attentive and fastidious!
Broiled scallops were fabulous, cooked precisely well and lime butter sauce was yummy! Popovers and mushrooms were grand!
There were 5 of us the day after Christmas. Had a great time! Food was so yummy!! I put my 87 y/o Dad's picture on facebook with his lobster. He was in heaven! I can't believe we haven't been in years. We will be going back very soon. Everyone who worked there said hi to us, our waitress was so good. She can back a few time first to see how the food was and make sure we had everything we needed. Then she came back to see if anyone needed a drink. Then to see if we were done and if we needed anything else. She cleared the table off and we sat for a bit just talking. Great time was had by all 5 of us.
The food is very good - you can't go wrong with Anthony's fish items. We had a cup of the fish chowder and the Clams Anthony as appetizers. Both were good and not what you usually find at restaurants. We had the haddock with olives, tomato and basil as one entree which was well put together with a good balance of flavors. The other entree was Georges Bay Scallops and I was so happy to find these large scallops cooked through. I don't happen to care for seared on the outside but raw-ish on the inside and appreciated the now rare opportunity to get well cooked scallops.
The service is very good with more than enough service personnel on site. You never have to wait for someone to come by if you need anything.
We had a view overlooking the city of Boston which was very lovely in the early evening
Our first visit. We had the baked stuffed shrimp and the large baked stuffed lobster, clam chowder, baked potato and house made French fries.
Fresh and delicious! Martinis were perfect!
Service was very good.
We definitely will be back’
Just as good as Boston’s Ostra and Atlantic Fish!
Location and history play a major role in why recommend. The popovers OMG and the food selection is great. The value is a little iffy and service can be sporadic
Everything tasted as if it were wormed over. Nothing seemed "cooked to order". Even the chowder was not up to par.......There were few people in the dining room thus it was weird that nothing was really freshly cooked.
This was my second Thanksgiving at Anthony's. The second was just as good as the first. I loved to food (too much, however), and the twilight ambience was just beautiful. Our waitress was cheerful and attentive. Thank you.
I went there with an out of state visitor to the area. She was more than impressed with the view of the ocean and landscape.
We both had grilled scallops which were amazing !
The popovers and marinated mushrooms were delicious. Our waitress was very attentive.
The ambiance is very comfortable and classic New England. The service is friendly and efficient. The food was well prepared and delicious. It just took a long time to serve the food. We waited quite a while for 4 orders of chowder and 45 minutes between courses. The restaurant was only half full and it seems it was the kitchen that was slow.
Service was outstanding
Bar was great
Customers were fun and engaging
Great dinner. Table by the window overlooking the ocean. Our server,Sarah was terrific. Food was beyond excellent. I was surprised that it wasn’t busy. This is a great restaurant
View amazing but food quality especially for price was pretty bad. Service was slow, we felt ignored. Place was empty, should have been the sign
Great food, great service and great location. Very pricey but good.
Great views! Wonderful service and delicious food.
Visitors from California.
One of the very few remaining classic Boston seafood restaurants, possibly the last real one. The room sits high on the rocks in Swampscott, and has a sweeping view of the Harbor and the Boston skyline. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared, with minimal seasoning, which allows the natural flavor to be enjoyed. Our server was an experienced professional, who missed nothing, and made a great wine recommendation. Don't be wary of the short drive from Boston. It's only 15 minutes. The prices are not cheap, but it is a real bargain compared with the overpriced and overcrowded Seaport, where there is no longer a genuine seafood restaurant to be found.
The staff is experienced and knowledgable. The bartender really, really knew his craft and took the time to confirm with me exactly how I wanted my "citrus vodka martini" made. It was perfect.
Food of course was fabulous, I got the baked stuffed lobster a lazy lobster lovers dream dish - succulent and sweet and full of lobster. Our sea view table had a terrific view of both Nahant AND the Boston Skyline - spectacular.
Great dining experience.
Siting high up on a rock on the water's edge with great ocean views of beach and bay plus easy large free parking lot and great food and service makes Anthony's a top choice for a great meal. My cocktail was served perfectly made by an obviously knowledgeable bartender. Our waitress was there when needed and our order was just as we'd expected. Very good food and for the view and the food and the service the price is just right. We didn't have any wine that night, but the wine list is very extensive offering a good selection of bottles and a few by the glass. We'll be back and I think I've found my go-to romantic dinner spot.
Excellent, high quality seafood. I’ve enjoyed Pier 4 restaurants for more than 40 years.
Anthony's is a great place for dinner, especially during the warm weather months. We love Anthony's Pier 4 and it's one of the first restaurants we call when we have friends and family visiting!
Food was great and so was the service, would come again if we are here.
Excellent location, food and service. I came back after 10 plus years, and still one of my favorite places!
5-star view, 4-star service, 3-star food, 2-star ambiance.
This place is quite dated and stuffy; seriously needs a facelift. Extensive wine list, but could use some good beer. Our crab cake appetizer was good and my husband loved his smoked salmon, but the homemade bread was really undercooked and my lobster ravioli was heavy. The location is a gold mine. With the right updates on the decor and menu, this place would be fantastic!
Our annual pre-Fireworks dinner did not disappoint. Food was very good to excellent- antipasto, crab cake & fried clam apps, prime rib, crab cake entree & swordfish. Service could have been better but we were not in a rush so worked out fine. Would have liked to have been asked if we wanted dessert and coffee tho’!
