Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe
We do not accept reservations for The Tavern or deck.
Wife wanted to check this place out since it had all the seaside flare you want in a restaurant on the water. The food was good and it’s very pretty inside, but it didn’t seem like a tightly run operation.
While food was good, but the service was not. Our waiter was hustling, but they were either understaffed or poorly deployed. It wasn’t just our waiter, it seemed like multiple guests were having issues with different waitstaff.
I doubt I’ll go back.
Food and service were good. The restaurant and menu seem very dated.
Great experience, good food always consist! My favorite restaurant.
Our server Phillip was great- we had a beautiful view, nice lunch, and great service. Very quiet for a Sunday afternoon
Anthony’s Pier 4 used to be one of my most favorite restaurants to go to for special occasions. Having been there on Saturday I left feeling that the food was mediocre while the prices were prohibitive. I am unable to think of another seafood restaurant that is anywhere near as expensive as Anthony’s and, if up to me, I will not return.
Food was overpriced. Steaks were very salty and baked potato was previously cooked and reheated.
Sat in the back room by the window and saw numerous rats running outside along the building.
Our server Lacy was just incredible. Professional, knowledgeable and gave service with a smile. Great ambassador for this location. Food was good but it was way more pricy than expected for what was delivered.
enjoyed delicious food with excellent ambience and lovely waitstaff. Expect a leisurely dinner with great social distancing and a very enjouable evening. Lobster a la Hawthorne was outstanding as always.
I will no longer book with Open Table. My special request and note was not read or recognized. If your app provides that, how do you see it through? Too many times this has happened where the restaurant does not read or see the special request. Do you follow up day of to let restaurant know? If not, it means nothing. I will book only at restaurant from now on. This does not work. Very disappointed.
Amazing quality food, the server Matthew was extremely polite. Food came out really quickly. It was a wonderful experience!!
Food was great and service was outstanding. Timing of courses and drinks was spot on and we were not rushed out of the building. The Views are spectacular, cant wait until the outdoor area is open we will be back again.
Always a treat to come here! Beautiful setting right on the ocean, lovely sunset and the food is delicious. The fresh popovers are the best. Great service in a nice atmosphere that you don’t see much these days. Not cheap, but it’s always a great experience.
I got baked stuffed lobster and my son fish and chips. They were decent. My husband got baked stuff shrimp and it was terrible. My husband also asked For roasted sweet potato which was offered. It was not roasted. Waiter was terrible. Never once asked if we wanted another drink. When we told him we wanted desert to go he seemed mad and said whatever. He also banged things down on the table. It was my birthday and when the waiter did that it ruined the experience.
Food was great and service was very attentive. The views are superb.
Beautiful, ocean front venue. The baked stuffed shrimp were perfectly prepared. Looked like miniature baked stuffed lobsters. The popovers and pickled mushrooms add to the pre entre cocktail. Wonderful dining experience.
My husband and I went at 2 on a Sunday afternoon and were seated by the window. View always impresses. Our server was great thru out giving us as much time to enjoy being out! But she always was attentive. Ordered prime rib special and medium baked stuffed lobster w/ Glover Salad. Also had popovers and marinated mushrooms included w/ dinner. All were very tasty. Entrees were pricey but worth it for a special meal. BTW, house wine is just ok.
Great martinis . Wonderful attentive young server.
Fabulous food and Matthew was a fantastic server.
We were excited to be dining with an ocean view and the sun setting in the background. We had a lovely cocktail and started on our wedge salad and clam chowders, both were good.
Sadly...It went all downhill from there.
I ordered the scallop special, without realizing it was the special, it was delicious, but not worth $49. My husbands swordfish and rice were both cold and tasteless. When mentioned this to the waitress, she apologized and offered to bring him some French fries. I am not sure how that helped with the cold tasteless slab of pre frozen fish. But I figured she was just too new at the job to know it was probably time to offer another meal or get the manager involved.
After dinner I ordered a cappuccino, and was told the frother was broken, and opted for an espresso with cream on the side. It was the worst tasting espresso I have ever had... barley touching it.
Unlike my husband, I never complain and say anything about a bad meal...I always try to find the good in the experience.... but this was hard to do and even I couldn’t leave without letting the manager know.
The manager said he was sorry, and that it was strange that no one else had complained. He would comp my husbands swordfish, but I have yet to see this on credit card bill. Then he reiterated that no one has ever complained about the swordfish being cold and tasteless, and walked away.
I had such high hopes for this dinner, having breathtaking views and a name I thought I could trust. I grew up visiting Anthony’s Pier 4, the General Glover and Hawthorn by the Sea on special occasions. I had always enjoyed these finer establishments. I have never been so disappointed, or felt so ripped off, and flabbergasted by the poor response from management ... the whole experience was atrocious.
The name shouldn’t even be associated with the fond memories I have from the real Anthony’s Pier 4!
We love excellent food that it not fussy. Anthony's always delivers but, I would go just for the popovers , marinated mushrooms, Glover Salad and baked Alaska.
We enjoyed swordfish, filet mignon and scrod-all prepared the way we like.
Our server, Andre, made the experience even better and we were 30 feet from the nearest table.
It was a great experience. I can’t wait to go and experience it again
The food was absolutely delicious but the service was mediocre.
One of the best restaurants we go to in a regular basis. Servers are always pleasant, food is excellent m, ambience couldn’t be better!
Beautiful location with a great view of the ocean and the Boston Skyline.
My scallops were cooked perfectly and my oysters were plump and succulent. Only issue with the food was the steak my wife had as part of her surf and turf was served well done when medium was asked for.
Clientele was dominated by senior citizens. I think a modernized interior might attract a younger crowd.
Overall, still a nice place to go for a special occasion .
P.S. Popovers still awesome.
Always enjoy going there. Looking forward to the time when the bar will re-open.
Was very disappointed because they didn’t have prime rib. But otherwise, fabulous
Nice ocean front view even at night, beautiful restaurant, easy parking, great service and food
Great food. Their baked stuffed lobster is the best! Great service by a superb wait staff. Great New England ambience.
Warm and friendly atmosphere, great food and great service. View is fantastic.
We went here for my husbands birthday and it was PERFECT!! The food was exceptional, my husband ordered the lobster savanna and I had filet mignon with baked stuffed shrimp. The meals were beyond our expectations, we look forward to returning. Our waitress was Brook, she was pleasant, knowledgeable nd probably one of the best waitresses we have ever had.
This was the first time we'd been out since Covid other than 1 outside visit to a restaurant back in July. Needless to say, we had our concerns about safety and health. As soon as we walked in the door, those concerns were gone. Spacing was fine, not crowded, all staff had masks on.
Food was great, service was great. Will return
The stuffed shrimp was OK though my baked potato was severely overcooked and gummy. My husband’s sirloin was supposed to be medium rare but was overcooked and charred on the sides. The bread rolls at the start of the meal were a strange texture and taste- I can’t really describe it. Clam chowder was good. We discussed ordering a side of broccoli with hollandaise ($9) but decided against it when our server informed us we each could choose a side with our meals. Well, we got the broccoli anyway and it was mushy. We ordered a $14 kid’s cheeseburger for our son who only ate half so we asked for the other half to be wrapped at the end of the meal. The server threw it away and upon asking why we didn’t receive our leftovers, we were given some plain pasta with a side of butter and parmesan cheese to take home. Not really the best way of correcting an error. Our dinners took a very long time to arrive, possibly because it was nearly all overcooked. Or considering the strange consistency of my baked potato, perhaps it was sitting under heat lamps in the kitchen for 30 min. The bill came to $140. Overall, I consider this very overpriced for the poor quality of the food. The ambiance is nice, however, and the view is great so I suppose that is what you’re really paying for. I wouldn’t go again, however.
Food is ok, not worth the value. But main concern was water cup that I was served had lipstick mark on it - full on lips (I was not wearing a lipstick). I showed waitress, she apologized and replaced it. But that left gross feeling for me for rest of the time. During COVID I would expect better attention to cleanliness...
Excellent. In these crazy times, it's a great place with a lot of history. Spaced out well, staff made you feel comfortable. Food was great. Made it easy to forget the time we are living in. Cod and Oysters were fantastic.
Service was both friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Food was excellent and atmosphere was perfect.
I’ve been a few times only because I know it’s going to be quiet.
Well, it’s old and tired unfortunately for them. They closed for months through Covid and I thought they revamped. Nope. I will not be back. My mom follows their page and was so excited to check it out, I didn’t say a word. She was also disappointed. So sad, with my hand over my heart.
Incredible view, wonderful ambience, delightful service, delicious food, appropriate social distancing, and not overly expensive. If you appreciate these things, you'll love Anthony's Pier 4 "Hawthorne By the Sea" Cafe.
We went for NYE and the food and atmosphere were great.
Our waitress was great! The food is always delicious!
We went there with our family and our little 6 months old - daring! Of course service was superb and food is always great here. While the waiter was really good , I have to ad that Ardi Cito the manager of the restaurant was professional and always makes our experience better. He is a true gentleman and takes his job seriously thus we keep coming back.
