Excellent dinner, atmosphere, and overall experience! A wonderful retreat into what fine dining in Boston has been for 75 years! Loved the meal and the ambiance. The portions were smaller than what should be expected of a full priced restaurant, but what we ate was outstanding. And the popovers!!!!

Une très (trop?) grande salle à manger. Belle vue sur la plage. Service attentionné. Le homard à la Hawthorne était ordinaire, le beurre fondu d'accompagnement tout autant. Le steak était toutefois savoureux. La crème caramel tait une crème caramel qu'on peut retrouver partout. Bref, une expérience culinaire tout au plus correcte, sans relief.

There is a beautiful ocean view here, my favorite aspect of the restaurant. It was easy to make a reservation, and both host and wait staff were polite and professional. Classic old school dining experience (linen tablecloths, captain's chair seating, popovers, colored water glasses, all of which I love...lol). Menu was varied enough. Baked stuff shrimp is served on shell, so steer clear if you don't prefer that. Steak was cooked perfectly. Cocktails-excellent.

Pier 4 Cafe will always be known to me as Hawthorn by the Sea, was part of the Anthony's Pier 4 Restaurants. The oceanside location is on the Swampscott / Lynn city line with great views of the ocean and the Boston skyline in the distance. The quiet atmosphere has many window-side tables. The service is always great and the food excellent, although the non-seafood menu is limited. It's a great location for a special occasion or just for a nice meal. In warmer weather, there is some outside seating, but not a lot. I have been going there a few times a year for more than thirty years.

Anthony's is a throwback to the days gone by, when dinning out was a treat, full of fun and you had high expectations. This restaurant does not disappoint and meets all of those criteria. Great food, well prepared, excellent service and an enthusiastic staff. Wheather it's the 8 oz. sirloin, the baked shrimp or the oven roasted cod, no one at our table was disappointed upon departure. We will be back.

My wife and I have been going to Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe (and before when it was called Anthony's Hawthorne by the Sea) for several years now for Easter Dinner and it has always been a pleasant experience, excellent food and top notch service. We look forward to many more lunches and dinners here in the future!!

The beautiful blue-eyed woman in my life and I were thrilled by the experience. The parking is quite ample. We were greeted at the door by a friendly, well dressed, smiling young man who held the door for us and welcomed us. The polite and well-dressed maître d' greeted us as we crossed the wooden walk over bridge, confirmed our reservation, then seated us. We had a beautiful view of the ocean, even though it was a bit stormy we enjoyed the ocean waves. The wait staff were well dressed and they all smiled and said hello as we walked to our table. Our waiter was polite, smiling, and well spoken. He had a good knowledge of the entire menu. He made an impression on us that enriched the dining experience. I had the best swordfish that I can remember, my compliments to the chef...!!! I highly recommend taking in the Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe experience...!!!

My husband and I had a lovely experience dining there on Valentine’s Day. We have been to Anthony’s Pier 4 for many years and we simply love everything about it: the location, the ambiance, the food, the pleasant staff,… Our waiter, Brendon was just wonderful: pleasant, professional, helpful and extremely friendly. What we really miss about the restaurant is the very delicious and special entree, the Bulabeise( sorry for the spelling). You should definitely consider offering this dish again.

Pier 4 Cafe will always be Hawthorn By The Sea To me. This is an amazing restaurant with great food and a great view of the Boston skyline. My NY Sirloin was cooked to perfection. Best I’ve had in a long time. My wife had s scallops which she raved about. I was surprised that the restaurant wasn’t packed on a Saturday night. This place is a hidden gem for a special night out.

The food was very expensive and not good at all infact my girlfriends was burnt for $35 for 4 shrimp they should've been the best shrimp ever nope burnt this place is closing and i see why dont waste your money!!!

We were put in the back room, next to the waiters service station. When I asked to be reseated he reluctantly placed us across the room, which was still not desirable, but his attitude made it uncomfortable to ask for the main dining room, however it was early and had plenty of seating there. I ordered the lobster pie for 75.00, ridiculous, but it was New Year’s Eve. When the bill came, we were charged 90.00, never told by the server there was an increase. My boyfriend got the prime rib, 60.00 for a thin piece of rib 🫣 Needless to say, what were high expectations, fell short on the attitude of this establishment. But overall it was adequate, but for those prices, there are much nicer places that treat you respectfully.

It is one of our long time favorites. Already twenty years ago we were regulars there during our time in Boston. Love to visit everything when I’m the area. Good food, decent atmosphere and a gorgeous view is all needed.

This is such a local great restaurant and you don’t have to drive into Boston. Our server was friendly, sweet and just right with timing. Eating out is still expensive, but the quality here is excellent. The view is beyond compare and plenty of parking make the whole evening a wonderful experience. We will miss going to this iconic place.

Popovers are the Best! My Husband had scallops and he said they were so sweet it was like eating candy I had the filet I had requested not to butterfly the steak but they did - but did not take away from the flavor Salads are delicious too! Can't wait to go back!
