Old school dining. A gentleman opens the door for you as you walk in and then you are transformed back to the days when dining out was a special occasion.
Excellent dining experience at Anthony’s! I can remember going here as a child thirty some odd years ago for special occasions. The food was phenomenal, beginning with the fresh, hot popovers. Lobster bisque was exactly how I remembered, creamy, thick and full of lobster. For my main entree I had the baked stuffed lobster which was to die for. The view was wonderful and our Albanian waiter was on point! We will be back!
Great food, outstanding service. Reminds me of dining in Europe.
Lost Gem. The location is the best. This is a white table cloth wait staff in white jackets or shirts. They give you popovers, marinated mushrooms. It is all done so well. We went on a quiet Sunday afternoon. The view was spectacular we felt special. However, the food was cool when it reached the table. The menu was reduced. I hope they can shake things up again and have a come back.
Wonderful service, sea views and no wait times !
Excellent experience. The ambiance was as good as any I've had. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. I 'd highly recommend dining here.
Absolutely outstanding food, amazing view, and service was great. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for lunch to try something different.
Outstanding food served beautifully. Wonderful service. Great parking too!
Excellent dinner. Service was outstanding. The Baked Alaska was “over the top”!
We had reservations and were seated immediately. Drinks were ordered and selections were chosen. We waited a very long time before our food was served. The waitress apologized but there must of been a delay in getting the order in. When the food arrived my husband's steak was not cooked the way he had ordered it. My shrimp was cool and it was not very good either. I am very surprised as we have gone here many times through the years and have never had a problem.
Wanted to love this, but unfortunately the combination of poor service (we still tipped well. We understand the pay issue with waiting tables) was a night long issue. We were seated immediately. Beautiful view of Boston skyline and watching the sun set. Got water and ordered our wine. Ordered dinner and 20 minutes went by. We asked if we could have some bread or anything. Waitress replied I was getting it in a minute. She did bring the popovers but had quite the attitude from then on. Never refilled waters. The glasses are small. Went up to the bar to grab some water. Scollops are questionable as to why exactly they are. Coated in some kind of a pasty flour or something. No flavor at all and mushy. Seemed more like something made to look like scollops. Lobster bisque was very thick with globs of flour floating in it. Lots of lobster so it could of been so good if it wasn’t overwhelmingly gummy. Could not eat it. And you get a cupful for 13.00.
Noticed other tables were sticking to lobster (which they stated they had to upcharge 10.00 per order because of prices) making the lobster 65.00. That’s quite an upcharge…. At 9.00 a pound for a 1 1/2 lobster they are upcharge good 400%. Anyway maybe they just don’t care. Felt that way. Didn’t stay for dessert. Most likely won’t go back.
The Hawthorne is one of my favorites for so many reasons...
During our 5 day stay in Mass, I took my girlfriend here after a night out in Salem. Although we felt a little under-dressed, the venue was breathtaking. We were given a wonderful view of the water, as we were placed right next to the window. We were greeted relatively quickly by our server Jules (who was wonderful by the way). We ordered a bottle of Cakebread Sav Blanc, which as always never disappoints. For starters, we got a half dozen oysters, a cup of the lobster bisque, and the calamari. Overall the presentation just felt sloppy for the venue. Giant bowls of cocktail and tartar, what looked like oven sizzle pans covered in bags of crackers for the soup, and an obscure dish of cold mushrooms. The calamari tasted premade and frozen, but the oysters tasted like oysters and the lobster bisque was impressive. For entrees, my girlfriend got the scallops and I got the lobster hawthorne. My lobster was filled with breadcrumbs and placed in the oven until they were burnt. Thats the only unique thing I could find concerning the lobster. Jules also put a bib on me, which my girlfriend got a kick out of but I felt like it was demeaning for the server to have to do that, but he smiled and laughed so it is what it is. My girlfriend was served 15 oysters on a sizzle pan, and they were pretty gross. They were milky, with no texture and no flavor, indicative that they also came out of the freezer. The place was pretty dead for a Saturday night, and a guy in the dining room behind us might of had a heart attack because halfway through the dinner, the EMTs and Firefighters rushed through the dining room after this guy who had collapsed. Overall, the place was stunning, however its a shame the food was just gross. They have a kitchen in the dining room and it looks lovely, the service was great, the menu is just something from the mid 90's that needs revamping. We spent $245, tipped $75 but would never go back unless the menu changed. Was still a great night!
What a surprise! When Boston Anthony's Pier 4 closed we thought we would never taste the popovers, Glover Salad, Marinated mushrooms and Prime Rib again. Nor experience the amazing water front views.
But, we heard through the grapevine that there was another location in Swampscott. We visited this weekend it the memories flooded back. In addition the lobster bisque was do die for!
We will be back again soon.
The location is fantastic, great view of Boston skyline. The food is very good, can get a bit noisy if you are looking for a quiet dinner. They are short staffed as most restaurants so the wait is longer than usual to be served. All in all a great place
The food and service are the best. In particular, the view of the restaurant is exceptional. The only drawback is that the restaurant is 60 miles away from our house. Also, after the pandemic, the restaurant hours had been reduced.
The lobster didn’t taste fresh and was tough. I was disappointed. The service was good our server was very attentive.
Superb night .Great table marvelous view of sunset.Mediterranean Cod was excellent.Service outstanding.Wonderful evening
The menu is half of what it was before Covid and quality of food suffered as well.
Loved the view, food was fabulous!
Menu we saw when booking online was different than at restaurant so we just had some clams (very good) and left
I wanted to have a wonderful experience. Service was poor - waitress could not answer menu questions. Food was bland and mediocre. :-(
Terrible table and service was horrid. Great food otherwise. Still will go back, with hopefully a better server.
Lobster was great, I didn’t like the swordfish though. Overall experience is good, we will return again.
Wife wanted to check this place out since it had all the seaside flare you want in a restaurant on the water. The food was good and it’s very pretty inside, but it didn’t seem like a tightly run operation.
While food was good, but the service was not. Our waiter was hustling, but they were either understaffed or poorly deployed. It wasn’t just our waiter, it seemed like multiple guests were having issues with different waitstaff.
I doubt I’ll go back.
Food and service were good. The restaurant and menu seem very dated.
Great experience, good food always consist! My favorite restaurant.
Our server Phillip was great- we had a beautiful view, nice lunch, and great service. Very quiet for a Sunday afternoon
Anthony’s Pier 4 used to be one of my most favorite restaurants to go to for special occasions. Having been there on Saturday I left feeling that the food was mediocre while the prices were prohibitive. I am unable to think of another seafood restaurant that is anywhere near as expensive as Anthony’s and, if up to me, I will not return.
Food was overpriced. Steaks were very salty and baked potato was previously cooked and reheated.
Sat in the back room by the window and saw numerous rats running outside along the building.
Our server Lacy was just incredible. Professional, knowledgeable and gave service with a smile. Great ambassador for this location. Food was good but it was way more pricy than expected for what was delivered.
enjoyed delicious food with excellent ambience and lovely waitstaff. Expect a leisurely dinner with great social distancing and a very enjouable evening. Lobster a la Hawthorne was outstanding as always.
I will no longer book with Open Table. My special request and note was not read or recognized. If your app provides that, how do you see it through? Too many times this has happened where the restaurant does not read or see the special request. Do you follow up day of to let restaurant know? If not, it means nothing. I will book only at restaurant from now on. This does not work. Very disappointed.
Amazing quality food, the server Matthew was extremely polite. Food came out really quickly. It was a wonderful experience!!
Food was great and service was outstanding. Timing of courses and drinks was spot on and we were not rushed out of the building. The Views are spectacular, cant wait until the outdoor area is open we will be back again.
Always a treat to come here! Beautiful setting right on the ocean, lovely sunset and the food is delicious. The fresh popovers are the best. Great service in a nice atmosphere that you don’t see much these days. Not cheap, but it’s always a great experience.
I got baked stuffed lobster and my son fish and chips. They were decent. My husband got baked stuff shrimp and it was terrible. My husband also asked For roasted sweet potato which was offered. It was not roasted. Waiter was terrible. Never once asked if we wanted another drink. When we told him we wanted desert to go he seemed mad and said whatever. He also banged things down on the table. It was my birthday and when the waiter did that it ruined the experience.
Food was great and service was very attentive. The views are superb.
Beautiful, ocean front venue. The baked stuffed shrimp were perfectly prepared. Looked like miniature baked stuffed lobsters. The popovers and pickled mushrooms add to the pre entre cocktail. Wonderful dining experience.
My husband and I went at 2 on a Sunday afternoon and were seated by the window. View always impresses. Our server was great thru out giving us as much time to enjoy being out! But she always was attentive. Ordered prime rib special and medium baked stuffed lobster w/ Glover Salad. Also had popovers and marinated mushrooms included w/ dinner. All were very tasty. Entrees were pricey but worth it for a special meal. BTW, house wine is just ok.
