Anthony's never fails to please! The setting with views over the lake, ducks paddling, fountains shooting sprays of water - and of course I had to get their fish and chips! Options available - veg instead of fries, green salad instead of coleslaw. My son enjoyed his snapper. Quick service since traffic made us 30 min late - very accommodating! I'd go back all the time - except we're up in VISTA!
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Anthony's La Mesa. The food was excellent. We met with manager Mr. Craig Ghio of the Ghio family and had an interesting discussion of the restaurant business in an San Diego. I expect all the seafood is top grade. The fish and chips were the best I have ever eaten! And I mean not only the fish, but also the french fries and the famous coleslaw. Mr. Ghio explained how he sources his product with particular detail. We have overlooked this gem for too long. We are going back soon.

We eat there regularly and the poor service was really abnormal. We will give another chance but this experience was disappointing.
We really missed the pier location and decided to take the short drive to La Mesa. What a pleasant surprise! It doesn’t have an ocean view but it does sit on a beautiful little and a quaint charm of an established restaurant! The food is the same high quality and the pineapple coleslaw we loved at the pier location. Overall, a great experience and we’ll be back every trip to San Diego!
Service was excellent but food and menu selections were very disappointing. Sadly, mediocre at best. Setting was nice. Expected better than average seafood... Not worth a repeat visit.
Waitress asked us what side my wife wanted with her salad, which confused us as to why a salad would come with a side. It didn't come with one and we were charged for something we didn't want. Food was dated, I just wanted some grilled fish. All they had was fish covered in sauce. The aforementioned salad was shredded iceberg lettuce pressed into a bowl with shrimp crab and avocado. Wasn't worth the price we paid for it. Stomach didn't feel right shortly after eating either.
Excellent as always!
The place, the food and our waiter were great! except the girl that setup out table just threw our silverware on the table, a set thrown on a plate, and one set was thrown directly on the table and the rest on the actual napkin. She must have been in a rush but we were already sitting down so we thought that was disturbing.
We enjoyed Anthony’s and recommend it, but I think "Open Table" forgot to mention to Anthony’s that our reservation was a double anniversary celebration, because we had to wait 15 min for a window table to open up for us at 5:15 at night.
Liked everything about the experience except the surcharge. Found it a slap in the face.
I have been going to Anthony's La Mesa since the mid 1950's, so I know to count of it for things you want a restaurant to be. Food is good, service and environment can't be beat. Ours was a lunch meal, but dinners are just as nice. Reservations recommended!
My friends were visiting from Oregon and we had a leisurely lunch right by the window. The fresh fish was excellently prepared and our server was very polite and attentive. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was quiet so we could easily converse.
Delicious & fun as always!!
Today was my mother's birthday. I reserved for a party of 8 people that morning. We were guided to our seat by Anthony's hostess in an seating area that was breathtaking. We were immediately greeted by our waitress, Annette. The menu selection and everyone's meals were delicious and memorable! We had a wonderful here at Anthony's La Mesa. Thank you for all of your staff's services.
As always, Anthony’s didn’t disappoint. Great food & friendly, accommodating service.
Food and service outstanding!
We’ll be back!
Food and service were great! Sure miss the downtown location too!
Anthony's is ALWAYS a win/win situation. Fish is fresh & delicious!! My husband LOVES that the fries are gluten free!! Annette, our server, was d'lightful. All 4 of us loved our meals. It's boring to always write the same review....but Anthony's is always good.
The restaurant has a lot going for it. Our food was very good. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable which we needed as we rarely order fish. The atmosphere was excellent. They have a beautiful large pond right behind the restaurant. Our seats were right next to it. They had ducks and fish in the pond. Very georgeous and unexpected but so wonderful to see. They also had outdoor tables with many customers eating outside. I also like the walkway out side which lead to another parking lot besides the one right on front of the restaurant. We know we are going back!
La comida deliciosa, como siempre.
We enjoyed ourselves and the food was good as always. The hostess brought a dessert for the birthday girl, she really enjoyed that. Thank you.
Could have used a little more attention from our server. The crab and shrimp were nice and fresh. The shredded carrots in the salad do not taste good. Great bread, would have liked more. Indoors a bit tired, outdoors very pretty.
Been an Anthony's customer for 50 years, great seafood, awesome service, beautiful location, reasonable prices, what more do you need
We were seated outside, which I absolutely recommend. It was beautiful. The food was fresh and well prepared. We enjoyed out date thoroughly.
We had a fantastic Valentine’s dinner!
When we first arrive and was being seated by an older lady with black hair, we informed her we would like the window table requested in our reservation. She stated the two tables side by side, next to the seat we were provided, was for a party of 6. A few minutes later a party of 2 arrived and then another separate party of two arrived at the second table. The food was excellent and our waiter took great care of us. The seating arrangement could be better as I was directly facing another tables party. I would suggest having a change to make it more private. We tried the homemade cookies with ice cream and it was delicious. The cookies were nice and warm fresh out of the oven. Overall it was good dinner, leaving me with a bad impression of the old black haired lady.
We will go back during a quieter time. Valentines Day was nice, but is much better when the place isn’t packed.
Only real complaint is we made reservations and were seated 23 minutes after the reservation.
Also the Halibut was dry.
Awesome service from Brina! She was very kind and patient with my elderly father and step-mom.
Super busy on Valentine's day, and still the service was fast and food delicious💛
The food is always great. We were left with empty water and ice tea glasses. We requested rolls and never got any. The food was great but was disappointed with the service.
Always an excellent place to celebrate Valentines Day and Birthdays with your sweetheart.
They were out of 2 items on the menu and did not tell us until after we had ordered each of them.
Clam chowder was excellent. The garden salad with the house blue cheese was also exceptional. The lobster and the salmon were also excellent choices.
The food is very expensive and not worth the serving you receive. I am sure if they lowered their prices it would have been full with customers. The restaurant only had a few people in it at noon on Sunday,
I will not return.
We had bay shrimp Louie and crab and shrimp Louie, both had VERY generous portions of seafood. Our server Carlos Z was quick to offer more bread, and happy to bring extra salad dressing. Our busboy came around frequently with iced tea refills. The outdoor seating is very attractive, and you’re allowed to feed the ducks.
Always delicious food & nice friendly servers. Anthony’s never disappoints!
Had the Squid steak with a house salad and a baked potato all of which was great and priced very reasonable. Will definitely be going back.
We were at Anthony's on the water front almost 40 years ago (still have the souvenir drink glass). We loved it then. Was one of the reasons we returned to visit san diego. So sad you are no longer on warf! BUT we visited the La Mesa facility. HAD TO DO IT!. Loved it, but still miss the original. We walked by the water front facility with the fence up around it. A worker was coming out through the gate as we passed by. I asked if this was Anthony's and he said yes it was. My reply, "too bad it is gone." He said, "yes it is." Someday the city will realize it cut it's own throat by treating you so badly! Hope it is sooner than later. They will deserve it and my ire.

I love this place. Took my sister here for lunch Sunday because it is her favorite restaurant. The setting is relaxing because of the view. The food is very good. I try something new many times when I'm here and can honestly say I have liked everything I have tried. Also, for dessert, their chocolate mousse is delicious!
The food was great but the service was terrible. We had a 6:30pm reservation and we weren't seated until 7:20. We didn't receive our dinner until 8:15. The waiter said that they were very short staffed and apologized. However, we noticed that the Manager was going around to other tables that were delayed and handed out coupons to compensate them for the delays, but she never stopped by our table. That was the most disappointing moment of the evening...
