First time here, although we have eaten at Colas in Columbia. Friendly staff. Appetizer of brie and crab dip was not as good as it sounds. Could've used more crab, less brie. My special was grilled tile fish with grits and vegetables; very good! The banana cream pie I chose for dessert was just this side of terrible. Not worth the calories at all. Nice place though; we'll definitely be back.

We tried out Anson Restaurant on the last day of Charleston Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. The staff was ever accommodating and super nice and professional. The proportions were great, food tasted AMAZING, and it was just a perfect girl's night out/ early birthday celebration. The chocolate torte was to die for- can I have another slice please? Really beautiful place.

Party of 4 went for Charleston Restaurant Week with an 8:45 reservation. By 9:45 we still hadn’t seen our starter. A manager came out to apologize stating they had printer issues in the kitchen. We found it odd that the 3 tables that came in after us didn’t appear to have any printer issues. Waiter was slow to bring drinks. By 10:45 I was just ready to be done. The food was good but not worth the crap service.

We made a mistake and did not know it was restaurant week so was very crowed and noisy but food and service was still excellent. Glad to see “new” old Ansons is still a great “old” restaurant.

Anson's is a fabulous restaurant.
Food: I highly recommend the fillet mignon and the crispy flounder. Be sure to get some grits!
Drinks: The best vodka gimlet anywhere! The wine (malbec) was reasonably priced and a great pairing for the filet.
Service: Michael, our server, was very friendly and attentive.

We had a great waiter. Only problem was there was not a handicap entrance, except the back, but everyone was very helpful.

Very good meal. We had the filet and chicken dish accompanied by poached pear salads. Our server Michael C. was very attentive. The layout of the restaurant is much improved with the renovation. Definitely recommend.

Was a little concerned about hitting Anson on a Tuesday evening during restaurant week, but my concerns were quickly gone. The food was just as good as we have had there on the weekends during prime dinner time, the service was excellent and we had a great time with great friends. I only wish I would have asked to be a little further from the bar area and check in desk as that area is a little loud and coziness was lacking due to the traffic in and out. I am confident had we asked they would have accommodated our request, but I figured we would just go with it. The area wasn't a bad experience, just not as cozy as upstairs. Our friends are locals and had never been and I am sure they will make Anson a part of their downtown rotation!! Anson is a must do and the whole fried Flounder is amazing, all steaks are excellent and the collard greens are like eating at grandma's house.

Had not been there in years but decided to introduce it to some business partners while they were in town. Better than I even remembered. Very patient and professional wait staff never felt rushed, they always appeared if something was needed. Talked two of the folks into the if you have never done it do it here crispy scored flounder. They were taken aback at first but after some helpful coaching from our waiter they both tackled it and in the end loved it all the food, the presentation, and the experience that comes with eating a whole fish for the first time.
Great place, give it a try if you havent been and if you have but like me havent been in awhile put it back on the list.

Very welcoming. When they said our table was upstairs, we explained my husband has a hard time with them, they immediately gave us a table on first floor. Staff and food were excellent. Best Manhattan I've ever had.

What an amazing dinner! The staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable! We were worried that the restaurant wouldn't be kid friendly but it was. My eight year old was very well behaved and all three children were complimented on their behavior. We would most defiantly dine here again!

The experience was less than we hoped for. The portions we're reduced in size. The dessert of choice was unavailable on a Saturday night at 7PM. Service was confused. The restaurant is very attractive. Great location. Might try again but not during Restaurant Week.

Glad to see it ‘back’. Crowded and no fault of theirs, LOUD (2 all female parties who were ‘into their cups’!). Retreated to the bar and ate there. Good food and service. No complaints!

Unfortunately, the upstairs ambiance was dominated by a noisy party of ten. Chalk it up to chance, I guess, but there was room downstairs for me, so the less than stellar review stands.

Outstanding food and service
Unfortunately they seated the 2 of us near a table of 12 having a birthday party. We politely asked to be moved to a quieter table in a near empty room and they moved us just 1 table away instead of across the room. Only negative of our experience.
Question for Open Table
We used O.T. For 3 Charleston Resturant’s on our vacation and at all 3 evenings we were placed at a table for 2 next to a large party. Do restaurants give Open Table diners the least desirable tables? Seems a bit unusual for 3 nights in a row!

We had the calamari appetizer, crispy whole flounder, salmon pasta, and goat cheese smashed potatoes. All were delicious; however, regret getting both the calamari and crispy flounder because they came with the same apricot sauce which was too sweet for our taste. (We were aware when we ordered, but wanted to try both anyway, so did not deduct stars for this...our fault and still both delicious!) Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The jalapeño margarita was good, as well.

Excellent service - sat at the bar as we got there a little early. Bartenders were great, attentive made great drinks.
Our table was ready on time, and our server was spot on. Very friendly, descriptive, and seemed happy to be there. She quickly refilled our waters and took care of what ever request we made.
The food was OUTSTANDING. I had the Grouper and it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the pork shank and it was so tender. The desserts were fantastic, homemade and delicious. Would definitely go back - made for a wonderful night.

Wonderful dinner with group of friends to celebrate NYE. Hadn't been back since they closed to remodel after the fire, place looks fantastic. Great to see an old classic like Anson still flying high in today's Charleston competitive market, such a hidden gem. We'll be back!

We were a party of five who were seated upstairs. Our waitperson, Lia, was a gem who guided us expertly through the menu, which ranges in choice from pastas to local fish to good steaks. Each of us ordered something different, and all of us were pleased. Even the bread and butter were outstanding. Although the place is not INexpensive, we the prices were quite reasonable for quality of food.

We shall return!

very nice restaurant. We ate upstairs which was nice but not accessible if you have a disability. The fried flounder is the specialty of the house and was excellent. I planned to order the whole sea bass but learned it wasn't available when our waiter was there to take our dinner order. I quickly selected the shrimp pasta. I wouldn't recommend it however. Not bad, but not in any way special. The she-crab soup was good but not exceptional. The service was very good and our waiter went out of his way to correct the room temperature for us. Overall, I recommend the restaurant but with so many great choices I will try something different the next time I come to charleston.

The scallops were perfect. I enjoyed my husband’s left over shrimp pasta as well. He fell ill during dinner and couldn’t finish and we had to rush off. Since it was my and my daughter’s birthday (18), we had to get dessert but were forced to get it “to go.” They put the creme brûlée in a card board box with nothing underneath it. I thought it was a little strange but then maybe the kitchen thought it was strange to get creme brûlée to go. Overall, fabulous appetizers, entrees, service, and atmosphere. Not too pretentious but definitely a special occasion restaurant.

My daughter and I visited Charleston for a few days and had a very nice dinner at The Anson. The interior and decor is unique - we ate upstairs. Very nice waiter and service was prompt. We both enjoyed our meals - I would recommend this restaurant.

Never had grits but the waitress convinced me to try the appetizer shrimp and grits.....damned good with it’s smoky flavor! Blackened catfish with just the right amount of ettoufee was outstanding and snapper special was excellent. Service was attentive but not overbearing and made good wine suggestion (decent wine choices ).

We found Anson by accident when most other restaurants were closed on Christmas Day, and it turned out to be a great gift. Just when I thought the catfish couldn't possibly be as delicious as the roasted garlic appetizer (which isn't nearly as simple as it sounds!) I found myself cleaning my plate of a rather large fillet and an etouffe that I want to drive the ten hours from my house in Baltimore to have again as soon as possible! We had to finish the perfect pork chop and grits back at the hotel several hours later. I've enjoyed many of the big name joints in my favorite southern city, including Magnolia's, Poogan's Porch, and Penisula Grill, but Anson is my new favorite. Run, don't walk!

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Anton’s on Christmas Day! The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! Had not been to Anton’s in about ten years, for no other reason other than that there are so many great restaurants in Charleston, but we will definitely be back more often. Thank you to everyone at Anson who worked on Christmas Day to make our family’s Christmas, one to remember!
