Ansari's Mediterranean Grill Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner special
! Food was great, service friendly and appropriately timed, but difficult to have a decent cross table conversation due to noise levels, especially during the belly dancing routine( although that was a nice addition to the ambiance). Also, parking is limited, but overall, a great night out!
I was very happy with the food and really impressed with the service, but the reason I went in the first place was for the belly dancing, and I was not disappointed. They had a fabulous and lovely dancer, very skilled, very professional, who made the whole evening. I can't wait to see more dancing there! I will definitely be back.
The food was very good and the drinks were amazing. Reasonably priced food with large portions and everything was very hot when it arrived to the table. If you are going out for drinks however, I would consider this place to be a bit more expensive. We happened to stop in on a bingo night and it was a pretty fun night. Give this place a try if you are in the neighborhood.
This restaurant took over an old Baker's Square space. Somehow we'd never noticed it. Service was friendly and prompt. The first item out of the kitchen was the tabbouleh. It was very oily (?!) and looked like it had been sitting around too long, so I was immediately worried about what we'd gotten into. The rest of the meal was great. I had the vegetarian platter and my husband had some combo with a kabob and fried kibbeh. Everything was delicious, particularly the hummus and baba ganoush. Servings were large so we had lots of leftovers the next day.
There were a number of families eating out together. It's a very casual, busy spot. We'll definitely go back and we'd also do takeout.
Just stumbled upon this restaurant because it was near the hotel we were staying at. The online menu looked interesting. Very casual. I had shrimp with couscous. Portions were generous and the food quality was very good. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. I know I will return.
Absolutely worst service we've had in a long time !! Waitress was very friendly at first and with the other tables around us. But then we received no refills and were very thirsty with our spicy food. She kept disappearing. We thought maybe she went on break but it was multiple times she was no where to be seen. She brought our to go box and "forgot" our bill in the back after we had been waiting in the booth ready to go so we waited and we got our to go food packed up. While she went to grab the bill, she instead delivered the bills for a large table.... all while we sat there waiting for ours. THEN she RAN their cards! While We were still waiting just to have it dropped off! We waiting for 20 minutes with our jackets on. This was all very much on purpose. So disappointing. we spent 60 bucks! Maybe she was upset we didnt order alcohol. We will not be back for a while. Such a bummer since we LOVE the food and atmosphere and love supporting local restaurants.
Our overall experience was okay, not too bad but not great either. We went there on the new years eve, so I can understand the service was not as expected as it was fairly crowded. But I was expecting better food but it was kind of disappointing. the meat was too dry and salty. From an above average expensive restaurant I would expect better food.
Ansari's is my daughters choice for her birthday dinner every year for the last several years now. She turned 12 on Christmas Eve, it's hard to know what to expect from a restaurant on a holiday but the food is always amazing and the place is always packed. My only minor complaint is being charged extra for pitas for the family gyros platter, and I think kids meals are a little high at $7. For our family of 6 we usually spend around $100 by the time sodas, a couple beers, and tip is factored in but that is comparable with other sit down restaurants for us and the food is just so much better. My daughter got a great birthday dessert with baklava and ice cream, and I ordered a cheesecake which was pretty standard but hit the spot.
My 4 stars for service was only based on this last visit because our server was never really around and our group of 9 sat with empty sodas and waters for the whole meal - seems she only cared about keeping up with bar drinks $$.
All in all, highly recommend and it is one of our favorite date night spots and we were pretty happy when my daughter started choosing Ansari's for her birthday dinner over chains like Applebees and Red Robin (lol).
Service was very friendly.
Decor is drab, dark and very worn. A bit depressing. Also, it feels and smells very bar-like.
Food was mixed. Kebabs we're good--flavorful and moist, unlike so many places where they're dry or rubbery. But other items either excessively salty or excessively tangy.
probably won't go back.
We were very disappointed in our experience. We were seated in a booth that had a big dried piece of gyro meat. My husband asked a waitress, who was clearing a table across the way, for something to wipe off the booth, she proceeded to hand us a used cloth napkin, it was absolutely disgusting! The floor was sticky & you could hear that with each step. The dining area had nice music playing but it was very hard to hear over that blaring TV from the bar area. Our food came out & the appetizer was cold in the middle & our entree was comparable to what you'd get in a fast food place. We could not believe it. We love Mediteranean Food & this was close to our home so we hoped it was decent.
We will never go back it was just bad across the board... what a let down.
I made reservations a week prior, to celebrate my anniversary. It was my boyfriends first time to the restaurant, my second. I ordered my appetizer both at tge front desk and once again from my server. The appetizer came after my meal because my server forgot to put it in, and asked if the food runner brought it out. I could tell he forgot because i was a server at one point in my life, and i know servers use that for an excuse. I just would have preferred he be honest. In addition, my server did not attend to my table as much, because he had other tables who had seperate checks, one of which was a party. I know he wanted to provide great service for his table, but i didnt think my dinner would suffer. I usually rip very well and in fact was prepared to give a gracious tip, but did not think it was warranted because of such poor service.
Our server was very nice and friendly, although the service was a little slow that night. Their food is delicious! We all ordered something different and it all tasted great, especially the lamb, which was cooked to perfection. They have a great menu and very nice staff so I will go back again and again.
Food was alright. The service was horrible. I didn't have a utensils. I have to get my own off another table bcuz the waitress took to long to get me one. Also, when I asked for another sauce it took the waitress another hour to get back to my table to check my table only to forget the sauce I originally asked for. Service is horrible. It might took me a while to come back to this place again.
We started with Spanakopita, Spinach Pies. Excellent. We then had a couple of the Mediterranean pasta dishes. Both were excellent. It was a Friday so there was belly dancing too! Families with small kids were even enjoying the ambiance. At the end of the day, in my opinion, this is a "working-person's" Mediterranean restaurant with multi-cultural customers and enjoyable food. Not a lot of glitz and glamour. Great service and a personable wait staff! I'll be back. (Great libation selection too!)
My ten year old daughter and I took my husband there for his birthday last Saturday 2/25/17. We sat in the room where there was the belly dancer. There were several large parties, many of them with little children. The little children ran around the dining room yelling and screaming. The wait staff and management did nothing about this despite several couples dining nearby. The food is tasty and our server was nice. The ambience was unbearable. My husband's lamb chops were over done as well as the eggs. We won't be returning, not worth the $110.00. It's a zoo.🙁
We were on a date, and the food and service were really great. Next time I won't choose a seat by the belly dancer. The music was almost too loud to talk over....but I understand. That was my fault. I would return in a heartbeat....at a table a little further removed from the stage!
We went to Ansari for Valentine's Day. The special complete dinner for two was great and the price was reasonable. Having live music was a plus, as we were not aware that live music was "on the menu". My wife had the Lamb Feast as her entree, I had the Gyros Pasta. We had Saganaki as an appetizer and that probably contributed to neither of us being able to finish the main course. However, we DID enjoy baklava for dessert.
All in all an excellent meal and a very pleasurable experience.
Nice place with a good variety of Mediterranean cuisine. Nice for a change from every day American food. Pretty inexpensive so its a good value. Also has a good beer list with some interesting craft brews. Has belly dancing for something a little different. A little noisy so its kind of hard to have a conversation.
We tried two of the "Tour" menus, Greek and Moroccan. Both menus provided plenty of food and the kabobs contained very good lamb. However, the intensity of the spices used were too much on the Minnesota Nice spectrum. The Moroccan, in particular, was a little flat. We stuck to non-hoppy beers, Stella Artois and Pilsner Urquell which matched the food just fine. Service was attentive and knowledgable. Belly dancing (a pleasant surprise) is the entertainment on the weekends but no live band to accompany her. If you're in the south suburbs, this is a recommended restaurant. If you're closer to the cities, then there are better options for this style of cuisine.
