About Annie Gunn's
Since 1937, once nestled in the middle of cornfields stands the Smokehouse Market. An unpretentious structure, reminiscent of its days as the market for the surrounding Chesterfield area. The store now houses one of St. Louis's most celebrated restaurants, Annie Gunn's. Within its walls, Chef Lou Rook, III works his magic, creating irresistible cuisine with a sophisticated country life accent. In keeping with the concept of "Foods and wines inspired by the richness of country life", Chef Rook uses the best ingredients and the traditions that are most appropriate to them and imbues them with his own talented creative spin within the rhythm of the seasons. Annie Gunn's boasts an award-winning wine list as well.

Annie Gunn's Ratings and Reviews
Annie Gunn's had fabulous food; it is a little expensive, but great for a special occasion. The service was fantastic as well. The server was extremely friendly and new the menu and the specials easily. She also made excellent recommendations. The only issue I have is that our table (which was in an "annex" outside of the regular restaurant) was a folding card table with a table cloth. I suspect they make enough money to afford a few more real tables (it is not as if the "annex" is not regularly used, as I have eaten out there before).
Annie Gunn's is one of the best restaurants we go to, it's our first choice for special occasions. Food is unique and many selections are locally sourced. Only sad thing was we didn't realize the smoke house market closed at 8 because we really wanted to grab some of the ingredients and try it at our house. Wonderful service, great food!
Our server, Lisa, began with wishing us a Happy Anniversary! She then took our drink order, and went over their appetizers for the night. She gave us plenty of time to choose an appetizer while she was getting our drinks. We ordered the wings as an appetizer, and they are PHENOMENAL. We also each had a cup of the potato soup and the clam chowder. They were both awesome! By the time our dinner came, we were both full! I got the french dip with fries, and it was kind of chewy, but a very good flavor! He had the classic burger, and it was a little overdone, but very good as well! We ended with a complimentary piece of apple pie with cinnamon ice cream, and it was AMAZING! Overall, service and food was great! We will definitely be back soon!
My family and I plan dinner out every year during the Christmas season. Each year we try to pick someplace we haven't been before. Annie Gunns' food was great. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. We all enjoyed our evening at Annie Gunns.
Food is always top notch. The service is always a bit off. We like to share plates and when a steak costs $110 we may split It even four ways with extra sides. Unfortunately, the server seems to think otherwise, and then we feel a little of the wrath. Listen no matter what we eat the tip is always above $50 and that seems more than acceptable.
As expected the food and service were fabulous. They were very busy for a Tuesday evening with multiple large groups, apparently business groups, which contributed to a somewhat loud dining environment, and a somewhat slow kitchen. As we were there for my wife's birthday dinner we were not in a hurry and enjoyed the extra time. Our server was great, attentive, knowledgeable, but not too intrusive. As expected it was a pricey dinner, but well worth it for the occasion. Definitely would recommend for any special occasion.
We had crab cakes, smoked shrimp, scallops, potato soup and their signature burger.
My wife said the scallops were perfectly cooked and some of the best she’s had.
However everything else was unremarkable. The burger didn’t wow me. The fries are much like the fries you’d get at five guys.
The potato soup was good, but nothing to write home about.
My wife said smoked shrimp seemed like a good idea but the execution wasn’t very good. She said she didn’t think the smoke complimented the meat at all.
The crab cakes were pretty good but lacked on the crab portion.
I think we will use our future gift cards at the smokehouse market where weve found items we enjoyed.
Dry aged options for steak under $80 would also be welcome. Although I doubt we will be back.
Had dinner with 5 friends. Great place for a larger group to get together and enjoy food, friends and fun. Cocktails and wine do not disappoint, and the food is fantastic. Do not have to worry about being loud as you blend into the background with everyone else. Don't know if this is where I would go for a quiet 2 person date, but grab a few friends for dinner! Great for people watching.
We took friends to Annie Gunn's last night as "thank you" gift and to celebrate a birthday. It was their first time there. The service was outstanding, beginning with a champagne toast on the house, a spectacular bottle of affordable wine, entrees that melted in our mouth ending with a complimentary dessert to die for! Matt was our waiter and did a fantastic job answering our many questions and handling all of our witty comments as well! Well done Annie Gunn's!
What a delight! We drove two and a half hours to get there, and it was worth it. Every dish was beautifully cooked. The plate of smoked seafood couldn't have been more to my taste. We shared an abolute vat of bread pudding in a bourbon-laden bananas Foster sauce for dessert. Even the espresso drinks were exceptionally good. And the deli next door! Wonderful selection of treats and wonderful wines as well.
The steak was the best my husband ever had. Leslie visited to with us for a while. She is a very genuine person. We hugged each other when we left. We were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary and appreciated the special romantics room for the occasion. We actually purchased two $100.00 gift cards that night to give to my doctor and surgeon for saving my life. We hope they enjoy your restaurant as much as we did.
I had a 16 oz steak and it was straight fire. My friend had a half pound burger and it was also fire. We got the potato pancake with bacon and a pear chutney. Guess what. Fire. It was super expensive but I had a gift card, and if I had any money I would go there again because the food was worth the expensive price. Overall, 10/10 would go again.
