Absolutely incredible meals. My steak was absolutely perfect. The wine was delicious and our waitress was very nice.
This is a hidden gem! The food is always fantastic. It’s like having a NYC meal hidden in southern Maine.
Went there to take advantage of the dollar an oyster deal.
They only had one variety from the James River in Virginia.The brine had the flavor of fresh water.We asked a waitress other than the one who served us who thought the oysters came from Vermont why they had no salt flavor. The waitress said that this variety is raised in fresher water than many oysters. We did some research on the James River oyster and learned it was recommended for stewing , frying etc but not to be eaten raw. The brine is a major part of the raw bar experience.The owner should be aware of this.
This officially my favorite restaurant. The food and wine are incredible. The service is wonderful. I always look forward to going back.

Anneke Jans is one of our favorite restaurants. Last weekend did not disappoint. All six of us agreed that all of our appetizers, entrees, and deserts were fantastic. The service, however, was not as good as usual. Our waitress had very little patience with questions about the menu. She also suggested to one in our party how best to get her attention - it wasn't a friendly banter kind of suggestion, but more of a @*!#-you kind of suggestion. But, the food and the promptness of the kitchen made up for it and we had a great time.
1 million percent recommend this restaurant unless you do not like: an ever changing seasonal local menu, courteous staff, intimate setting, free valet or the selections of wine and libations; (oh yea almost forgot, the mussels with bleu cheese)
This is a must for any family or friends coming up to the area to experience just an overall beautiful restaurant.
We found the food to be above average, the ambiance great and the bartender knowledgeable and helpful.

I have had dinner at Anneke Jans on numerous times and we have very happy with food. This particular evening - Sunday seem to be a little off. I feel the quality was not up to par. The mussels dish has been always good, but this night the mussels were so small it was difficult to acctually get an actual piece of mussels. My quest salmon was under cook and had to be sent back.
Waiter was nice and apologetic, but this night was not their night. The resturant was emply, so no hurry to meet other customers demands.
Dissapointed to have an off night with a resturant I like.
Once again, it is my pleasure to report that our party thoroughly enjoyed the delicious, imaginative and beautifully executed food at this gem in Kittery.

We usually love dining here, food and service has been wonderful. But tonight, the noise from the diners next to us was so loud we couldn’t carry on our own conversation or enjoy our dinner. We did express our concerns to our server.
We were there for restaurant week and my husband’s birthday. We loved everything except the desserts
I made reservations for 4 of us early on a Saturday night so we could attend a 7:30 concert. The atmosphere and seating was very nice. I didn't realize at the time that it was Restaurant Week which was probably why it was fairly busy early in the evening. The service was prompt and the waitress was efficient. We took advantage of the Restaurant week special 3 course dinner. My soup was good as was the entree of Maine scallops. However, we all had the chocolate cake which was probably the worst dessert presentation I have ever been served. Portions were all different and it had a runny milky whipped cream presentation. It seemed like the type of dessert that you make and then realize that the recipe didn't come out as you expected. Very bland and not much of a chocolate taste. I'm not sure if we were overstaying our welcome as it was getting busy but the check came before we were offered coffee or anything else to drink and the waitress never returned until it was too late for us to get it. Good meal but not a good ending impression. Restaurant week should be when you show off your best to gain repeat customers, especially as we are local. Good beginning and so-so ending to our meal there.
My dish was cold, and very, very rare (lamb). The panna cotta was rather unappetizing.
Great food, ample portions, attentive staff
We have always loved the place though the quality of the food seems to have dropped. While the open kitchen is great, we noted a chef with a particularly bushy beard actively preparing the meals. Under Section 2-402 of the Maine Food Code, it seemed like the Chef should have had a "beard restraint" in place. Needless to say, it was not optically appetizing.
My recommendation comes with a mixed reviews and a caution. I enjoyed my meal and will come again to try more menu items. The first and second courses were good to very good. I did not care for our desserts as they seemed like "refrigerator" desserts - too cold, not fresh, and ok, but not special. I also thought your $12 cocktail cost and $4.50 for a cup of coffee (nothing special) was too much, and took away from the Restaurant Week opportunity to try a new place in an affordable way. I know that people like your restaurant and that's why we checked you out, but the music was a bit too loud and lent itself to being more frenetic than needs be if you are serving top-shelf food. The artichoke soup was good, but missing something. The crab fritters were excellent. The pork was okay, but the lima-bean veggies were great! The lamb was also very good, but the accompanying veggies were forgettable - I forget what they were, but I remember liking them.
Excellent meal. Enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant. Will definitely return. Attentive, friendly service.

The party of 6 tried nearly everything on the menu. Simply put, it was outstanding. Thank you to the staff for making it a perfect evening.

Delightful experience. We were seated immediately at a window seat.. our waitress was attentitive and suggested a moctail that was delicious! We ordered the fried olives that were cleaverly presented atop an olive can...next we had the creamy burrata cuddled up in a fluffy egg, with a bacon reduction, and a Portuguese clam and pork belly “stew”. All memorable. The mussle entree with blue cheese was delicious and very rich, the stringy fries were a fun side. The pork chop was cooked to perfection, and enjoyed with enough left to take for another meal. The bar side was just as intimate, we will be back. Make reservations...
We live 20 minutes away from this place but have not dined there for many years, rarely being in Kittery in the evening. We have missed out because the quality of the food and service has improved dramatically. The dining room should be full of happy diners.
The menu prices were a bit intimidating at first, but as soon as I took my first bite I was immediately put at ease: the salmon was cooked perfectly, and our waitress was kind enough to give me the option to have it fully cooked through (though I opted to have it cooked as described on the menu). Would highly recommend for date night!

I always enjoy my dining experience at this restaurant very much. . The wait staff are great and the food is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was very good and there is a good variety. They had a vegetarian and gluten free dish which sounded great but I opted for chicken (next time I'll try it). I would serve the salads on a larger plate because it's hard to move your salad around without it falling off the plate. Service was a little slow initially. It's always disappointing to sit for 15 minutes without water or wine which is why I can't do 5 stars. But after that the rest of the evening flowed smoothly and our waitress was enthusiastic. Ambience is warm and welcoming. They offer valet parking which is a plus because there is little parking in the area.
Food and ambiance was simply outstanding.
What a gem of a restaurant! Creative, delicious dishes, warm, lovely ambiance and outstanding service. They offer a FREE valet just to make it easier on their patrons due to the very busy Kittery area. I loved that as I hobbled in wearing a walking boot. Class act all around.
