We hadn't been to this restaurant for many years and decided to give it another try. It was fabulous. Great selection of menu choices and our food was delicious. The service was impeccable and we loved how we didn't have to struggle to hear each other talk. A+. We will be back soon.

Excellent food and service. We all greatly enjoyed our entrées (chicken, pork, and vegetarian). It was great to be in a restaurant and be able to hear each other as well!

This is our third visit from out-of-state, and hopefully not our last. We always enjoy the cozy setting, unique food preparation, and fine service at Anneke Jabs.

Went here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Extremely loud and busy at 7:45 Saturday night. No hostess/host at the stand when we entered. Had to wait to be seated until a waiter noticed us standing there. Once seated we ordered beverages as well as our meals (we had already perused the menu at home). Bread basket served quickly, but we had to wait an extremely long time for a beer and a hot tea. Apps came shortly after. Two small (silver dollar sized) cod cakes in a pumpkin remoulade (different, tasty) and 2 small short rib skewers with a side of homemade red cabbage "kimchi" (also different, tasty). Mains: Pork Osso Buco with Parsnip Mashed, Caramelized Onions, Orange Gremolata and Pan Seared Sole, White Bean Puree, Roasted Carrots, Braised Fennel. Osso buco was a stretch: it was a pork shank. Cooked well, but completely devoid of the orange gremolata....I asked the waiter to retrieve some from the kitchen, and it made all the difference! The parsnip/potato mash with caramelized onions was quite tasty. On the other hand, the sole was bland and cooked to mush. It had no firmness whatsoever. Like fishy babyfood. The white bean puree was so devoid of flavor that we couldn't even tell that it was made from beans! The roasted carrot and braised fennel were both so undercooked as to be nearly inedible. Hard as rocks. Desserts: Pumpkin Flan and "Triple Chocolate". The one nod to our anniversary was a candle stuck in the flan. Ho-hum. That said, it was light and quite tasty. The Triple Chocolate was a delicious combination of chocolate brownie topped by dark chocolate ganache topped with white chocolate "whipped cream" served in a mason jar. Desserts were definitely the high point of the meal. All in all, just OK.

Meg our server was wonderful and was attentive to our dining experience as well as the other staff members. I was disappointed on my choice for dinner, but I believe that was more me than the chef.

The food was great but our server, Julia, was inattentive and very slow. We waited a long time to order our drinks and she never came back to get the check or get our valet ticket.

We went to Anneke Jans for Restaurant Week Special and were blown away. The food was superb, the staff was delightful, prices not at all alarming, the ambiance was relaxing, it was quiet. I/we could not recommend the restaurant highly enough. A really pleasant experience, enough so that we have arranged to meet friends of ours there next week for dinner. An additional bonus is that parking is easy and very close.

It has been years, decades ago at March in NYC, since I have had such a pleasant dining experience.

AJ is very special to us...always had great drinks and eats whether it’s just at the bar for Happy Hour or special occasions added as a gathering place with friends.
The staff and service do a terrific job.
The food is creative, tasty, and well priced.
We are so lucky to have AJ in our area.

My favorite dish has always been the mussels with blue hill cheese. I thought the entree was good but, in the past, it has been much better, more blue hill cheese, more flavor. The butternut/pumpkin soup was good but, again, not a rich flavor. They do a great glass pour of wine. Lovely restaurant in so many ways.

We requested a high top in the lounge area, and it was perfect! The bar scene was active on a Saturday night but, not too noisy!! We each started with a very lovely cocktail, shared an appetizer, and enjoyed our entrees. When I ordered the mussels, the waitress remarked "We are known for them" but, having finished the bowl of them I'm not sure why? My husbands duck breast was amazing!! This restaurant keeps it's standards and remains one of our very favorites!

Only comment that came from our party of four was the portion of the pork chop was small. Could benefit brining on the pork chop. Steak strip portion also small. Salads great size for then eatting an entree. Apple cobbler was delicious. Fayetteville cocktail expertly made😊

Expected an excellent meal based upon the menu. The beet salad was very nice and was split for us in the kitchen. The roasted chicken was on-point. The special lobster risotto, not so much. It arrived in a small soup bowl, ungarnished and didn't look especially special. Price wasn't stated when our waitress described the item but silly us, for assuming it was in line with the other items on the menu. When the bill arrived, the risotto was charged at $39. Frankly this was a total ripoff, regardless of market price of lobster. If there was 2 ounces of lobster in this rice dish, that would have been a lot. Wine prices are pretty inflated as well.

Anneke Jans never disappoints! I took 4 out of town guests there for dinner and they loved it. It is a lovely, warm venue with delicious food. And Kittery Foreside is such a cute little town center. I'd highly recommend!

We live nearby and Anneke Jans is an easy walk. It is unpretentious, reasonably priced, and a good place to take guests, or just the two of us. The Statler Chicken is especially good, as are the mussels, and the service is always friendly.

We LOVE this place. Went on a rainy evening when it was relatively quiet. Beautiful and tasteful decor, wonderful service and the food was outstanding fresh, really yummy and artfully presented. The only very minor points were that there were few gluten and dairy free options, for dessert and the portions for the main course, especially the specials, were small. We will definitely go back again now that we know what to expect. Highly recommend!

Romantic and Pleasing to all of the Senses

Another wonderful dinner..this one was our anniversary. My Arctic char dish was superb; unfortunately, the trout paté was bland and underwhelming, as was my husband's salmon.
The bread was not especially unique, but the plum almond dessert was terrific.
Overall, the experience was extremely pleasant, but the food uneven. Great service, free
valet parking and warm ambiance will draw us back again, but next time, we hope for all
facets to be superb.
Addenda: I'd written a note on our Open Table reservation that it was our #46 anniversary. Apparently, the restaurant did not see this.

We went for our anniversary and everything was perfect! To start, I had the lobster salad with fried green tomato and my husband choose the wedge salad. Both were extremely fresh and delicious. I had the seaweed gnocchi with mushrooms, while my husband had the mussels with blue cheese for entrees and both were excellent. For dessert, we had peach cobbler with biscuit topping. The peaches were fresh and not overspiced. The peaches tasted like fresh peaches! Our waitress was delightful and attentive, making for a perfect evening.

The food was absolutely wonderful. We both had a watermelon gazpacho that was both different and delicious. I had the lobster appetizer, and my husband had the arctic char, and both were delicious. To top it all off, we shared the peach cobbler with ice cream – also very nicely done.

The portion sizes were right, and we left quite satisfied. Service was attentive and friendly.

We've been here many times before, and it's a great alternative to going out in Portsmouth for dinner – the prices are slightly more reasonable, the crowds are fewer, and it's very laid-back.

Reservations was easy through opentable. We started in the bar and the bartenders were helpful/knowledgeable despite not listing the much more expensive wine by the glass (I went cheaper anyway, but ask if you don't see something you like). My wife loved the Rosé from Austria!
At dinner, service was nearly perfect. Mussels were small, but tasty, the broth a little heavy and also tasty! Dinner selection was good: monk fish for my wife and hangar steak/Demi for me. Both were nicely plated and flavorful. Dessert was a little chewier that bread puddings we've made at home, but I think on purpose as it also had very good flavor. Decaf cappuccinos were average, but complemented dessert well. Would definitely recommend and will come back
