Angels with Bagpipes Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I went here for our Christmas Day out and we were not disappointed. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and shown to our table. Decor is not fussy and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing. Staff were very attentive but not in your face. Food was beautiful, well presented and tasty. Never felt pressured at any time, able to sit and enjoy our coffee. Would recommend this place to friends and family and will definitely go back.
Tremendous dining experience. We had the tasting menu (one of us also had wine pairings) and were extremely pleased with the creativity, selection, and preparation. Food was very well prepared and the service was outstanding. Intimate atmosphere in the restaurant and the location was ideal. We will be back again.
A very tasty meal - started with Haggis which was excellent, and followed with a vegetarian squash dish which definitely met expectations. Portion sizes are not huge but quite satisfactory and in fact perfect for allowing room for one of the wonderful desserts. This was our second visit and we were seated downstairs this time - ambiance not quite as nice as upstairs but very quiet and peaceful. Service was effective, not as personal as last time but perfectly fine.
Amazing restaurant with an outstanding menu. We went for the 4-course tasting menu (plus additional cheese) with wine pairing. The value for money was excellent, the staff knowledge perfect, the quality of food sublime, location ideal and overall experience just what we were looking for. Highly recommended
The restaurant itself is stylish and conveniently located right on the Royal Mile. The service is excellent - friendly without being obtrusive. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the food. Would recommend having more than one course, three courses was just right. This was our second visit and I am sure we'll be back.
Booked a table for my partners birthday, was greeted on arrival with a complimentary glass of fizz! Excellent service and excellent food! Had the beetroot starter was amazing, chicken as a main and the Shiraz wine my partner had was amazing also, definitely recommend for special occasions!
Booked this restaurant based on a friends mention of having been there and tried the 64 day aged sirloin steak, quoted it as “the best steak he’s ever eaten” and he is a veteran foodie.
So I booked it to take my girlfriend out for dinner on Friday night. Got a nice table and ordered the chatueubrieand £60 to share between 2, with a choice of 3 sides and 2 sauces. Ordered the chips, garlic portobello mushrooms, and green beans in garlic butter, with the peppercorn sauce and garlic butter sauce. We ordered the meat to be cooked medium.
I thought it tasted beautiful, everything was oozing with flavour and quality.
My girlfriend, who has literally eaten everywhere in town described it as the best piece of meat she has ever eaten.
Can’t argue with that when trying to impress a woman.
The dessert was generously portioned aswel. Parfait pear, we shared it and it was also very nice.
We also tried the mince pie martini, it was lovely, like a dessert in a glass on its own.
This is a hidden gem in a tourist hot spot, the locals should be getting more use out of this place
This was a pre-Christmas visit and the third time that we had dined at Angels with Bagpipes, luckily this time we weren't seated in the lower level where the office Christmas parties tend to be accommodated. Menu doesn't appear to have significantly over the intervening years so dishes should be perfect and as we are not regular diners the choices were ok
Very good food, well presented and excellent value.
The tasting menu is worth a go.
Whilst you don't get the lengthy wine presentation you would in a Michelin starred restaurant (as an example - one of the reds was presented thus: "This is a Rioja, from Spain"), you do get great food and a price of £80 for 6 courses with wine was great.
A bit of flexibility would be nice (they present you with around 12 courses to choose from, but everybody has to have exactly the same courses, no variation at all - meaning the one with dietary issues or the fussy one gets to choose). But couldn't fault the food.
