Used to be one of my favorite restaurants but the last two times I've dined here, the chicken has been dry and inedible. I actually thought that perhaps the Chef-owner was not there those two evenings but LO and behold, he came out of the kitchen! Certainly not the reliable high-end dining spot I remember. Boo hoo ...
Lovely authentic chef-owned Italian restaurant with daily unique specials, elegant and attentive service, and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Loved the food and the setting. Unlike so many. List places today, Andrea's provided an environment in which it was easy to have a conversation with friends.
We love Italian food and have wanted to try Andrea's for a long time. After receiving a gift certificate from my Brother, we decided to go and take family for my birthday celebration. The first thing we noticed was the fact that it was busy on a Monday. Many of the people there were regulars which was encouraging. The chef came out and spoke with many of them and at times delivered the food himself.
We had several of the many specials that night. The Snapper, Ravioli, Soup D'jour, as well as the Pasta Dishes made with house made pasta were all wonderful. The wine list is extensive and well priced.
All in all a great evening.... we will be back.
At 60+ I have had my fair share of different kinds of ravioli. I had the four cheese ravioli and it by far was the BEST ravioli I have ever had. My wife had the short ribs and it too was fabulous.
Met the owner and saw his passion for his resturant.
I give it a 10+
Food was great. The room has no windows and there is no decore. Service was good
We loved Andrea's. It was our first time as we were visiting Sarasota. We were running late for the opera and asked to have the food brought out quickly. It was. Service was careful, the owner was very accommodating and everything was fantastic. This is some of the best Italian food we've had. I had the duck ragu and my husband had the gnocchi. Bellisimo! I hope we get a chance to return.
Very good meal. Not a whole lot on the menu, but a good selection.
Food was outstanding the service also. Our waiter was very helpful in the selection of the food and the wine. He was attentive, friendly and interesting. We throughly enjoyed our whole experience.
Noisy... very! Food good, better in years past.
This is by far the best, most consistently good authentic Italian restaurant in the sarasota area! We've been coming here for years. The chef, Andrea, is outstanding. Service is great. Waiters are friendly and helpful. My husband loves the veal dishes. Fish and veggies are prepared to order. And the pasta so fresh .......
I recommend any special. Veal Gorgonzola is a treat! Eggplant appetizer, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
Enjoy dinner at Andreas, we always do!
Very reliable. Andreas is out of their Longboat Key restaurant which allows even more focus on the original locale. In addition to a fairly broad set of menu options, there were a number of interesting specials. Made it very hard to choose!
Service was lacking, food was good. Too dark - everything black.
Very slow service as another couple in the room received all of the attention from the waiters and the manager. I am known at other dining places and see how others may see there at what I observed at this place.
Outstanding food served promptly and hot. One minor glitch that was resolved quickly....by other than our server. Our server was not up to par with the quality of the food.
Great Valentines dinner. Veal special and ravioli special were excellent. Service was friendly and attentive.
Food was excellent and staff was very friendly. I would definitely go there again.
Service was very slow. It took about an hour to get the main course. Without being asked, the waiter, probably realizing the long wait said"Sorry, "I'm not in charge of the kitchen". Regarding the food, the appetizer, Cesar salad, was good and the main courses, pasta, were very good. The dessert, creme brûlée, was burned on the top which was soft rather than crusty as it should be. All in all, it was a disappointing experience in contrast to a few years ago when Andrea's used to be excellent.
Great little place! Excellent food! Good atmosphere and charming chef!
This restaurant is a gem hidden in a strip center. Best Italian food, cooked authentically. The chef owner is very creative and takes much pride in his food and attention to detail.
Very intimate dining...wonderful food and everyone was very attentive to our needs
Andreas was a fabulous food find for us in Sarasota. The roast pork shank melted off the bones; the spiny lobster on thick spaghetti was just the right spice level and included fresh tomatoes and the lobster was cooked just right. The olive tapenade with olives from Liguria was to die for. The chef and what staff were all attentive and quite ready to talk over our selections. House wines were excellent. A wonderful find!
Food was just okay but very pricey for what it was!
Went to Andrea's on Christmas Eve with friends. Full house yet could still talk across the table.
We had the Beet Salad and the Lobster Bisque as starters. Wonderful! The Lamb Chops were perfect. Cooked as desired, plenty of them (8) and served with potato and vegetable. Also had the Sea Bass. Beautifully cooked and excellent flavor and taste. Great presentation also.
Had a nice bottle of Napa Cab. Sauv. A good selection of wines from all over the world and priced fairly.
No room for dessert - had to take a to go box because could not eat all on the plates.
Chef Andrea came out to each table and inquired about the meal. He spent time with us discussing the preparation and how he prepared a couple of the dishes.
A good time and excellent food seem to be the norm at Andrea's.
The Lobster Fra Diavola with freshly made spaghetti and the Lamb Shank with Goat Cheese Risotto ( a weekly special on Fri nights) were both outstanding!
This resturant is a great place if you enjoy small restaurants with great food and wine. A real gem
We always like Andreas for its intimate atmosphere and freshly baked bread and pasta. Cannot go wrong and we have eaten there many times since they opened.
We have found the best Italian food across the country is found in little, obscure strip center locations. Andrea's fits the bill. The unassuming store front opens to a culinary delight. On a not too busy pre-7 pm Saturday night we enjoyed a very good dinner and time. Easy to converse at the table. Attentive and helpful service. Tasty selections. We will be back and hope it is as good or better the next time!
Andrea is back! Now spending full time in his original restaurant, Andrea has quickly restored it to its former excellence with prime ingredients deliciously prepared. In my opinion, this is the best Italian food in Sarasota.
My husband and I know that dining at Andrea's will always be a delight. The food is delicious, the service friendly and professional and the wine list extensive, interesting and well priced. They even have a special summer menu; three courses for $25. Great food and great value! What's better than that?
Very expensive wine list. Food preparation was disappointing at best. The lasagne was dry. The scallops were overcooked. Would not recommend this restaurant at these prices.
Remains on our list of not only the best restaurants in Sarasota but the best kept secret as well. We blame that on its odd location in a sad little strip mall off the beaten path. Once inside, it is an oasis of great food, great service and quiet atmosphere. We eat here often, but not often enough. Nonetheless, we are always greeted like old friends, which is very unusual in this resort town. Highly recommended.
When my husband and I want to enjoy a wonderful dinner with delicious food and wine and friendly and attentive service, Andrea's is our "go to" restaurant. We are never disappointed and make it a destination when friends or family are visiting and when we want to celebrate a birthday or dinner... or any day at all.
Disappointed after such rave reviews. pasta uneventful and tastless. don't like writing negative reviews, but won't return.
Small restaurant in a strip mall - do not be put off by the location. The food, service and decor are all above average - and you do not have to shout at your dining companions to be heard.
Andrea's is a comfortable and pleasant place with very well prepared and presented food, friendly, attentive and prompt service, and an excellent wine list at fair prices.
I have never felt compelled to write an Opentable review, but was just so impressed by the serious Italian food served in a Sarasota strip mall that I wanted to give the restaurant the credit and recognition it deserves.
My wife and I and two other couples went to Andrea's for dinner after a concert. First, we were there for an hour before dinner arrived. Second, the food for the most part was not very good. Three of the six had lobster ravioli at $26.95 -- a few lobster flavored ravioli and a few mushroom filled ones. Not good and clearly over-priced. Another diner had the egg plant Parmesan, kind of an icky mess of mushy filling. I had pasta with shrimp fra diablo, not bad, but clearly over-priced for a bowl of spaghetti with 6 or 8 shrimp at $26.95. The only other dish we had -- veal Milanese -- at $28.95 was tasty (although over cooked) and within a reasonable price range for the dish. Clearly, none of us were pleased, and none planned to go back.
Got water immediately, but had to wait 30 minutes before our waiter came back to our table to order our glass of wine. We were about to walk out.
Food was ok but both meals were very salty.
I had previously had great meals here, but, this evening was a exercise in so-so. Nothing memorable about the evening. OK service, but, another table famililiar with the owner, was getting fawned upon. Short ribs were bland and burried in overcooked pasta. Lobster raviolli arrived overcooked and tepid.
Andrea's is by far the BEST Italian restaurant inSarasota. I had the pleasure to dine there with a friend who is also Northern Italian & knows great authentic food & wine. He was overly impressed with the elaborate wine list and mouth watering food. Andreas staff were courteous , professional and knowledgable of the wines and food. As a most special treat Andrea himself visited our table, conversed with my friend in Italian he brought out a few of his special little treats!! I cannot wait to go back! Thank you Andreas for a wonderful evening.
