Andrea at Pelican Hill Ratings and Reviews
Sprawling and gorgeous Mediterranean resort with sweeping views of the ocean, exquisite atmosphere, really enjoyed our lunch. Would definitely recommend to anyone and certainly would be back again. Have been for dinner however prefer lunch time as you can see the amazing scenery and backdrop setting especially on the patio. Service was top notch and attentive, food was delicious, we went for restaurant week and they offered a decent variety, also offered an additional menu that was available for upgrading to more choices. I had the burratta, pumpkin ravioli, hubby had wild salmon on a bed of lentils with Caesar salad. Shared the kale salad with pancetta and rapini. Great time to sample their meals in their beautiful restaurant with incredible ambience.
A friend and I decided on a quiet post-New Year lunch and found Andrea's as a perfect place. The food was well prepared and presented. We were able to maintain New Year's resolutions on healthy and light eating and enjoy the experience. Andrea's has a fixe prix menu that provided for 3 courses with your choice of starter/salad and main course from the full regular menu. I chose a grilled Branzino and my friend had chicken. The setting is perfect for a Sunday and the service was attentive but not pretentious.
Andrea is the best dining in Orange County. It is quiet and reserved. The atmosphere is superb with guitar music providing a pleasant background. Most premier dining is too loud, not Andrea. Quiet conversation is possible. The seating selection of booths and tables is spacious and ideal. The overall decorating is very well done. Then there is the food. It isn't difficult to find a good steak when dining out, but the Cavatelli isn't likely to be matched anywhere. The food selection matches the overall level of quality at Andrea which is superb. The desserts are works of art. Even the cappuccino was a standout. Melissa's personalized service did not disappoint. Derrick's (GM) attention to detail is obvious as he stops by the table to chat. Every bit of the Andrea experience is serene and enjoyable. It is why we return.
The worst lunch I have had in a long time. The food was dreadful! No taste and we all had heartburn afterwards. Obviously it was not fresh. We left everything on the plate and told the waiter why. They still charged the full amount. I have had a couple of dinners here that were decent. Lunch compared to Chef Boardee. That is probably tastier. I have reservation for next week that I am canceling.
The ambience as well as the service is superb. The food selections were varied. The chicken scalapinni was delicious but could have used a tad more lemon. Wine selections were great but quite pricey. The branzino was beautiful but a bit over cooked so a little dry.
We went there on Christmas Day for a dinner and just everything was just perfect. The waiter put extra care to make sure everything is well. I didn’t like the desert that order and he exchanged without any additional charges and make sure I like the one I exchanged. Great place to celebrate and get together with friends.
My wife and I had a memorial Christmas dinner here. All the staff members were friendly and cheerful. Our waiter Loreto, was beyond helpful, informative and gracious. His wine suggestion hit the spot for both of us. He was always nearby and attentive, without being intrusive, letting us dine at our own pace. His assistant was also there at the appropriate times. This was truly a great experience, compared to other high dollar restaurants in Newport Beach and the surrounding areas. Salud to all!
I was there for Christmas' Eve dinner. They had a $140 limited option menu. The foie gras was good, but not outstanding. I specifically asked for all dishes to be served without cheese. Well, the foie gras was served with cheese. My wife ordered the Hamachi and it was very good. For the next course, I ordered the squid ink farfalle. The dish was flavorless and seafood less. My wife ordered the lobster risotto. The dish was the best of the evening, but cold since the runner brought the dish while my wife was in the bathroom. Since the restrooms are located in the hotel lobby, it takes 5-7 minutes to go and come back. Long story short, the dish was cold by the time she came back. I waited for her before eating, so my dish was also cold. The server/runner should not serve a dish if a patron is not at her/his seat. For the main entrée, I ordered the veal chop. While the quality was very good, it was served with a very similar sweet fruit sauce used for the foie gras. I had to order a demi-glace on the side to counter balance the sweetness of the dish. My wife ordered the turbo. The fish was well prepared, but lack in wow factor. Both desserts very creative and very good. I ordered a pinot from CA, but it was served in the "generic" wine glass already on the table. I noticed that a few tables down, they ordered the same bottle of wine but it was served in authentic pinot glasses. I finished my meal with a $7 cappuccino. While I can perfectly afford a $7 coffee, one would expect to have it included in the $140 menu.
In summary, the meal was good but not great. Andrea's is a special occasion restaurant, but for my next special occasions, I will go somewhere else.
One of the best restaurants that we have ever eaten at!! Food was different but everything was amazing!! Service was over the top and made us feel special. Would definetely visit again when we are back in the area. Make sure and order the Risotto, best we have ever had!!
My GOD!!. you better come with a WAD of Cash to THIS place!!. Especially if your date goes for MORE than ONE glass of wine!!.. geez.. can you say.. buh bye to your mortgage payment for the month?
Ummmm.... $ 75.00 (Extra) for some Truffles? that Pigs had to snort to find?. I don't think so!!
The facility is amazing. The view spectacular. The service and the vibe is very high end. I think it is very over priced but I guess for the ambiance and the location, it justifies the high cost. The food is pretty good, not amazing as one would expect for the price.
Fresh homemade pasta was a highlight of the meal, particularly the lobster bucatini and the cavatelli with truffle oil and Italian sausage. Andreas, like the rest of the Resort at Pelican Hill, is well thought out, offers a great view, and provides excellent service.
I was completely underwhelmed. Given the caliber of the resort associated with this restaurant I expected nothing short of fabulous. The menu was boring. The food was bland. The wine menu was uneventful... Commonly found high end wines such as Screaming Eagle but what about something unique in the $250-$500 range...have some fun here!!...The server seemed bothered to be with us. We even tried to engage him with some humor and he was in too big of a hurry to take it in. We were left unattended for long periods of time and his serving etiquette was simply poor. This is a fabulous location and has so much potential!! I am new to the area and sincerely wish we had a better experience. I was looking for a new favorite dinner location for my sweetheart and I!
We had a very nice time at the restaurant. Service was excellent. Bartender made a great martini. Steaks were cooked correctly. Risotto was delicious. The pasta dish was doughy. Comfortable environment. Hard to recommend because the restaurant is too expensive for what was offered.
Andrea had to be one of few favorite Italian restaurants I’ve attended. We started off my getting a salad that was special on their menu, the Caprese salad with truffle vinegrette. Let me just say it was AMAZING. Loved every bit of it. I ordered the truffle fettuccini Alfredo and my fiancé ordered the bone in rib eye. Both meals were excellent. We also topped it off with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Rosè. We definitely enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back at our next stay at Pelican Hill.
The service was terrible at best and our waiter was very rude. We arrived at 5 p.m. for a 5:30 reservation. We sat in the bar and one of our party ordered a glass of wine. The waitress asked if we were having dinner and if so, could we pay for the wine before entering the dining room. We said we'd prefer to put it on our dinner tab. Consequently, the wine never came. We sat waiting for 25 minutes. When in the dining room, we had to flag down someone after sitting for 20 minutes to order some wine. That took another 20 minutes and when my husbands wine came (29.00 glass of wine) the pour was less than 1 oz. When I questioned that, the waiter said, it's the glass, an optical illusion - there is more in the glass than what you see! Over the next hour and a half we had to ask, several times, to order a drink, to order our food, to get bread, etc., and each time our waiter acted as if we were inconveniencing him. 3 of us had steaks - no steak knives were given to us and we had to use the dull knives on the table. We said no special dessert (celebrating an 80th birthday) and we all ordered 4 desserts individually. While eating them the waiter brought another dessert over with a candle in it. We again reiterated we didn't want it. When the bill came we were charged $6.00 for the "birthday dessert". I asked a man in a suit (he was going around asking everyone how their dinner was) why we were charged for the dessert and he said "you mean you don't want to pay for it????" - I said absolutely not. He then changed the bill. Our friend is from Spain. He wanted to have dinner for his birthday at Andrea (as both he and my husband played Pelican Hill golf the next day) and it was the worst experience.
