Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Thursday night dinner date at the Ancaster Mill. The food and service were great. I would have preferred to be seated somewhere a little quieter - the restaurant wasn't busy, but almost everyone there was seated in the same small area so it did get a little noisier than I expected. Overall, a great cozy dinner spot with a beautiful view.
We went on September 18th for our 30th anniversary as we had our wedding supper there and then our 1st anniversary. It was awesome. We were greeted with sparkling wine, and then confronted with a menu that had so many excellent choices . I changed my choice many times. But. Then our waiter ,whose name escapes me, suggested the flight with wine pairings. We were able to tweak things a bit due to food allergies. The salmon was substituted with a halibut that was seasoned so delicately. Best fish I’ve ever had and I am not a fish person. The fillet of beef....never had such a beautiful choice . I was a little concerned about the rareness because I hate the blood everywhere. But not a drop, and the side of corn ...yummy. Every dish was described to a T. Now to the wines. Everything went so well together and we had to make a tweak with wine too. Our reservation was at 7 and we were in our car at 10. Which is not a complaint. Never did we feel rushed or feel the time was dragging. The timing was perfect. Overall a wonderful night
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and beautiful views along with the delicious meal and helpful staff
I had high expectations due to it's reputation however it did not deliver. I assumed it was a fine dining/restaurant style not cafeteria/family style dining. I didn't anticipate having to serve ourselves and it was incredibly noisy with multiple events going on, children running everywhere. Food was adequate but not for $138 for 2 people, for the ambience I would choose a greasy spoon for one fifth the cost and food that is just as good.
Best customer service! From the valet parking to restaurant staff! Brunch was amazing! Lots of food choices! And the view OMG. Spectacular! Already booked for our next visit! Surprising my husband for his birthday!
I was disappointed when my daughter came home from the Mill and did not sound enthusiastic about the Brunch. It was my daughter and son in laws anniversary on Sunday as well my daughters birthday. They were married 2 years ago at the Mill. I booked on open table and I put that it was a special occasion. I also called the Ancaster to also make arrangements for them to be near the window and maybe a candle on a slice of cake. None of this happened. The serving staff did not even notice them because of a devider. My daughter after already helping herself to the buffet, had to go get a server to get them coffee. That was another problem that she mentioned is there wasn’t enough servers because 2 wedding were running as well. Very disappointed 🙁
This restaurant under delivered relative to the reviews I had read. Unfortunately, we had an 8:00pm reservation, and were not seated until close to 8:30. Although this is obviously not something the restaurant can completely control, we were provided with very little information about the situation. Once we were finally seated, the food was just average. I ordered the duck, and the breast consisted of one relatively thick piece of meat - it was very tough. In contrast, I had visited the Edgewater Manor just two nights prior (I was in from Princeton, New Jersey for a hockey tournament), and had a perfectly prepared duck breast, thinly sliced, tender, and cooked to perfection.
I will also note, the wine prices listed on the website are DRASTICALLY different than the actual prices they are charging. For example, the Tignanello is listed on the website for C$ 175, yet is on the actual wine list for C$280. The same goes for the Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino, which is listed on the website for C$ 145, but is on the list for C$180. I doubt these are innocent mistakes resulting from a recent update of the menu. Unfortunately, we enjoy wine, and this was one of our primary reasons for visiting the restaurant.
To be clear, if you can look past the wine list issue, not a bad restaurant, just not deserving of superior ratings. Without a doubt, the physical location is outstanding.
I greatly enjoyed my experience here. The view and service were fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious! Great location near Sherman and Tiffany Falls.
Good value for a Sunday brunch with sparkling wine. Love the place and the vibe.
We had a wonderful time. The ambiance is superb and the grounds are lovely. We would like to see more vegan options with less oil and salt, as well as some whole grain bread options.
Would not recommend this restaurant for a quiet celebration. in our case, 45th Anniversary. We found it noisy The service was generally slow. The food was ok, but well short of spectacular, which, based on their reputation, is what I was expecting. Offhand, I can think of two other regional restaurants which are far better. Will not be returning. Overall, a disappointing experience.
Delicious and tastefully decorated food; efficient, swift and customer-oriented service; cozy and romantic ambience
All speaks for going again!!!
Excellent service but some disappointments; brunch was very noisy, the original table had a bad draft from the ac and the bacon wasn’t fully cooked. That said, the rest of the food was very tasty and well presented, following our complaint we were promptly moved to a table with no draft, and there were alternatives to the bacon.
Great experience - dining , ambiance, service and value for money
Great experience, good service, wide food choice all delicious
Went to the Ancaster Mill for the first time with my partner for a special occasion. We had made a reservation and were very happy with our table with the view of the waterfall. The host and waiter was great. The food was absolutely delicious (kind of wish there was a bigger menu). The waiter was great and didn't hover too much. We took decided to take photos at the waterfall and were pleasantly surprised that one of the employees came out and offered to take a photo. I'm sure that happens a lot, but anticipating the needs of customers whether it's food or accommodating for special occasions like that made for a very enjoyable experience. Thank you.
The food as usual was excellent and the service superb. I was disappointed as i had reserved early and had requested a window table and ended up in a table by the wall. Smokers went out the exit door close to us beside the waterfall and had their cigarettes there. Every time the door opened the stench of cigarette smoke came wafting into the restaurant and since we were beside the wall it came down over us.
Good food and services. Highly recommended
We were catching up with friends from a previous vacation. They enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. All of the staff from the time we arrived until we departed were very friendly and gracious
Worth the detour. Good good. Great service and setting.
Great food and selection to provide for individuals with dietary requirements. Presentation and cleanliness was superb. Would recommend to anyone having a special occasion - don’t forget to reserve well in advance!
Outstanding meal in a spectacular setting! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Ancaster Mill and will certainly return. The service was excellent.
Amazing food & service! Will definitely come back! The tomahawk bbq for two was fantastic! Pecan pie to die for and the drinks are fabulous too!
This place is amazing! No words can express our whole experience at Ancaster Mill. Best brunch place by far.
Service was quick and very reliable. Food selection was fantastic and delicious! A bit pricey but worth it once in a while. Also, great venue. A couple weddings happening when we visited. Definitely visit again and recommend to friends and family looking for very good food and dining experience.
Food is good quality. After I asked that the background music be turned down, I could hear what others in my party were saying. The restaraut was very busy. . . Not as calm a morning as I’ve experienced at the Old Mill in the past. Would like to see the price structure modified so vegetarians aren’t paying the same price as those who enjoy all the costly meat/sea food.
Came to celebrate my husbands birthday, with my little ones. Excellent service, very much welcoming staff. Good food. Nice pies. I did request a table in front of the waterfall though. But as it was busy , got a side table. But that doesn’t affect anything what I was expecting, as ,the overall experience was something to take back home.👍👍👍👍. Keep it up.god bless
I had indicated that it was an anniversary meal. We were met with two glasses of complimentary champagne and were seated at the best table in the room overlooking the waterfall. The food was superb. The service was exemplary. Exceeded our expectations in every way!
The pecan pie was amazing. Very memorable. Service was excellent and the ambiance including the waterfall was over the top.
We had such a great time. The service and food was amazing.
The best restaurant we have ever been to! The ambience , the waterfall and the vegetarian food coupled with the immpecible service - it was amazing!
Love the open bar and the variety in buffet options!
Bit of a jam up getting in for Sunday Brunch at 9:30am when the place opened up, which in turn resulted in long lines at the made to order food stations. Might be helpful to stagger the booking reservation times a bit.
Also didn't realize the champagne isn't served until after 11am, so the champagne brunch ended up dry.
But - the food and atmosphere were still excellent.
The wait staff was outstanding - the steak a bit disappointing, but the rest of the food was excellent.
I loved the overall experience however, was extremely unpleasant when they rushed us to leave the restaurant. There was no disclosure on how long we had to be there or how long we could be there and unfortunately too many times the waiter came to our table to "advise" us that his manager was pressuring him.
Food is excellent, service attentive and the ambiance top notch.
Only positives to share: celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at Sunday brunch. There was a big selection of food, lots of staff, service came with a smile & it was beautiful to sit in the waterfall room.
Delicious wild salmon with roe . Wonderful tenderloin with blooming onion. Best pecan pie I have ever had.
Outstanding as always! Service, food and ambiance were excellent!
The server’s attitude is not bad but not good too. I did not feel a warm welcome. And after we finished our coffee, he never refilled it unless i asked for it. He never really asked us what we want and how was everything. So my girl friend and I did not feel we were being served.
