Ancaster Mill Ratings and Reviews
We have decided to forego Christmas presents with friends this year and instead enjoy an amazing brunch at the Ancaster Old Mill. It’s a lovely place to enjoy good food...amazing buffet...and to reconnect in a quiet setting. Wait staff are so friendly and attentive. We had a window table with a view of the stream running by. Great place for special occasions!
The Ancaster Old Mill is one of my favourite restaurants. It is nestled in a quiet, secluded part of Ancaster surrounded by trees and immaculate grounds. What is most striking as you approach the restaurant, is the most beautiful man made waterfall you will ever see. If you get seated in the Falls room you can watch the waterfall up close through huge windows as you eat your meal. As you enter the facility you are greeted by a friendly hostess who takes you to your seat. The waiter then promptly takes your order and presents you with an excellent choice of wines. I like the way the meal is presented and there is enough so that you are not left feeling hungry. I usually go here for special occasions as I like the quiet, romantic ambiance. I would definitely give this restaurant five stars plus.
Food was good however overpriced. Menu small. Not enough choices.
Wine was outrageously overpriced.
Service was really good. Was a good meal. Would not return. There are far too many other venues to go to....very nice atmosphere however. The deciding factor for not returning was the price of a 9 oz glass of wine!
Went for brunch on Sunday. A lot of variety, Good cuts of meat, charcuterie, eggs, crepes, sushi and other seafood. Very pricy. The food was no warm enough and most of it was cold even the 'hot' items. Decent experience but wouldn't go back because of the price, not really worth it. The waiter was polite but kept forgetting things.
I had been toAncaster Mill for a friend’s before, but never for a meal. I decided to get a group of 7 friends together for my birthday brunch and everything was flawless. We had a great table with waterfall/outdoor views - which surround both rooms, there were so many food options and all fresh and delicious. The crepes & waffles station as well as the omelette station were my favourite. So delicious! Our coats were checked upon arrival, I received a personal birthday cheesecake with a candle in it, our server was absolutely amazing (blonde, we were at one of the tables across from the juices/breads - you’re amazing!) and you guys.... BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS! Unreal. I’ll be back.
We loved everything about our visit to Ancaster Mill for Brunch. I'm already planning a return visit. The best prime rib I've ever had and the food selection was incredible! I used Open Table to make my reservation and my special request was fulfilled. A great experience all round!
We are never disappointed. We do the multi-course with wine pairings whenever we come to The Mill. This time was spectacular. The halibut was perfection and how they made a short rib taste better than filet mignon, I will never know. The vegetarian course made our whole family happy and desserts were amazing.
We dined for 3 hours with a 2 year old and a 12 year old.
I specifically picked this spot to propose to my financé. Though relatively expensive (roughly $150 for two people), the food was amazing (as usual), the restaurant was quiet (even when nearly filled), and the ambiance was surreal.
They catered to us beautifully. They helped us take photos, set up my table early with flowers (I provided - but they did give us a vase), complimentary hot chocolate outside and champaign inside. It really felt like they were celebrating with us.
Would highly recommend for any special date, or even a regular date if you want to really impress.
My daughter & I went for Sunday Brunch & in celebration of my 29th b'day (she is 47 lol) - believe me the food was more than a 10 .. staff were great .. just a little 'blip' at the beginning but thats ok - I only wish we could have got a table near the water falls, absolutely out of this world ambience.
Sorry but I haven't been here in many years and was looking forward to going back. I remembered it be be a quiet restaurant with a great location and venue. I was disappointed to see that it has grown immensely and lost is quiet serenity. No main courses for a vegetarian or vegan - should have checked the menu before booking. I ordered the soup which was served luke warm and wasn't told that I would be served a small serving of the same soup first. I did not complain as I was with my vegan daughter and wanted the night to be special for her. She compromised and ordered the fish.
Went for Sunday brunch with some girlfirends for a catch up. After we had been at our table for one hour while chatting and having coffee a waiter told us we should start eating because we only had our table for two hours! We had no idea about this when we made our reservation or from check in or our server when we sat down. We thought it was rude and a shock when the buffet is 51.00 per person. We stayed a little past our time and there were several empty tables in our area that never refilled. I likely wouldnt recommend them or return due to our experience.
We really were not sure what to expect. Came to celebrate our son's 25th birthday and it happened to be a Sunday evening Family Dinner event. We shared most courses with the exception of our entre which we could choose 1 of 5. Great choices!
Great food, excellent service, and beautiful setting.
A beautiful venue with the incredible waterfall visible from many spots inside the restaurant. The staff was lovely and the service wonderful. We chose the set menu for dinner which featured a terrine starter, a spaghetti squash dish first followed by both fish and beef, and a selection of desserts. I could not finish all of the courses although my husband enjoyed every bite of anything I left. The food was wonderful. A little pricey as we were $550.00 for dinner for 4 with only one bottle of wine. My only complaint was that we were the last table there by 10:00 pm which I don't consider late on a Saturday but they clearly wanted us to leave so they could prep for their brunch the next morning. They started playing Janis Joplin music and rearranging furniture around us. It worked. Still in all a lovely night.
The cauliflower soup was outstanding. The Halibut entre was lukewarm at best, and the only vegetable served with it was a lot of acorn, butternut and spaghetti squash, which was not peeled, and also lukewarm. I got tired of eating all that squash, frankly. The mussels as an accompaniment to the lukewarm halibut were also lukewarm. An expensive dish—and the restaurant wasn’t busy. No excuse for this, as I can see.
It was my husband's birthday and this was the first time we had both been to the Ancaster Inn. What a beautiful venue! The grounds and the view of the waterfalls from our table were spectacular. We also loved the old world charm of the buildings with its modern updates. It was truly a memorable day and we would highly recommend going here.
Was expecting an luxuriant dining experience. Instead I would rate it a casual brunch experience in a venue which had a beautiful outdoor view.
For $51/person was anticipating quality food and more elegance.
Service, was attentive and professional. However very noisy environment, tightly packed tables, and ambiance similar to Mandarin buffet does not entice me to return.
Sunday dinner was OK. Not worth the money, but tasty. The place is beautiful and service is great.
Salad came to us with a small greenish worm which was surprising. They gave us a new dish and a discount.
Dont think I will go back for dinner. Their brunch is amazing!
My husband and I were going to be in the Hamilton area and were looking for a nice place to eat lunch. We had just celebrated our wedding anniversary and thought the splurge for brunch at the Lancaster mill was just the ticket. We were very impressed!! The venue is gorgeous and the brunch outstanding. Won't hesitate to go back ourselves and recommend to anyone.
