Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
10 oz striploin, tomato corn salad, sauce choron
Confit Duck Leg
rutabaga, dried fruit jus
saffron rice pilaf, marinated cucumbers, green tahini
The atmosphere and the service of this restaurant was amazing however found the food itself was mediocre, especially for the price. I had the char and my white bean side had zero flavour to it at all. It tasted like a can of beans was opened and put on my plate. My hubby had tenderloin which he did really enjoy however again his sides had hardly any flavor. Garlic mashed potatoes barely tasted like garlic and I don’t think his squash was seasoned at all. For dessert we had a cheesecake which was fantastic itself however the fig jam was way too overpowering, we scraped it off in order to enjoy the cheesecake. We frequent higher end restaurants and I thoroughly enjoy cooking myself and always enjoy trying new dishes however was disappointed by these. If this menu is changed after the season I may return simply for the beautiful surroundings but would not return for the food itself.
We had went for our anniversary, we had gotten and married and had our reception there a year ago. We saw that they had their Sunday Supper still up on their website. We were disappointed to hear that they were not providing that option. We were really looking forward to Prime Rib! It also asked if we were celebrating something special, which I did state that it was our first anniversary. There was no recognition for this... We were disappointed because it was an exciting time for us. But other than that, our meal was delicious and maybe we'll try again next year.
We were disappointed with the food. We believe the price we paid for the food is too much in regards to the taste and servings of it. The fish is blunt and the lamb has that tangy taste which makes it not so appealing.
However, we were delighted with the cozy ambiance inside, awesome falls in the garden, and quick serving of the food.
Great restaurant. The area around the building is gorgeous and quaint, and the interior is beautiful. Service was excellent and the food was great.
Once again, another outstanding dinner at the Ancaster Mill! Thank you again for a lovely evening.
We went for lunch on Friday, my wife had the salmon and she enjoyed it but did not care for the brussels kraut. I started with the sweet potato soup, which was tasty but could have been warmer. I had the honey mustard glazed chicken breast which was good. There was Tokyo turnips and barley risotto which were good. They include a large piece of cabbage, which was alright, but really, should have included a different vegetable for the price of the meal (I think cabbage is the cheapest vegetable you can buy). Carrots at least or some type of seasonal squash would have been far better.
The server was very good and the Mill and grounds are incredible. We made reservations on line and there was follow with the reservation as a reminder. When we made the reservation it prompted a question if "this was a special occasion". I did answer that we were celebrating our 46th Wedding Anniversary. However, nothing was acknowledged or congratulations by anyone from Ancaster Mill. While I did not say anything to the hostess or waiter, really, YOU ASKED THE QUESTION AND DID NOT FOLLOW UP. So why did you ask, it was not busy either this day.
Fabulous dining experience at Ancaster Mill. The weather was so nice, that we decided to dine outside with the waterfall behind us Exquisite setting! The pumpkin soup was outstanding. And the service was steady, but not rushed.
When we toured the inside of the tea and the building, everything was socially distanced apart.
Excellent food and service, would have preferred to be able to continue to sit and chat a little longer however I understand shorter seating periods during covid.
First time visiting, beautiful location, great service ( even during Covid Times ) food was well presented and flavours were good.
Definitely looking forward to going back.
We felt that the options in the menu for food were really limited. It would be fun if we had them more. Rest all was very gud.
It was a very nice break from pandemic home cooking!
The restaurant itself was quite confusing to find because there were a lot of different buildings next to each other, and the only signs we saw as we were driving towards the buildings were for the chapels and parkings. Regardless, the food and the service was amazing, especially the ambience and the view. My partner and I really enjoyed having dinner here. I would definitely go back again.
Super beautiful and food is better than I expected !
The waterfall on site was nice to look at. Had lunch there, it was okay. Nothing to write home about.
Our server Kyle was courteous, patient, respectful, awesome! For us , he made the experience a great one. I would go back just because of him. Thank you!
It was ok experience. The food was good but too expensive for that amount I paid. It included wine salad and a an apple and a soup for two. The tip should be added by the customer not the restaurant because it depends on how your service was. Anyways thank you.
Beautiful location and setting for a nice quiet dinner, food was good and service was outstanding.
Wonderful little gem nestled in Ancaster. Loved it!
Food was excellent!! Server was wonderful but due to covid wasn't as attentive. Pour my own wine etc
Disappointing. No table cloths , no candles on table, freezing air, loud 80’s dance music. Its like they forgot they were a finer dining restaurant and its not all the fault of Covid. Service was rushed and the whole ambience was chilly. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and were really disappointed.
The food was very good, the environment is very pretty, however this was a less than desirable experience.
The issue was two fold, being seated next to the washroom and the back door made this a very high trafficked area. This was a table that should not have been placed as it was.
Everyone who was seated outside passed by the table to exit, while there was a perfectly good exterior walkway. Additionally I had to get up to close the door multiple times (the day was not particularly warm) We also experienced the discomfort of unmasked children and people in wheelchairs being directed past us either on entry or for repeated bathroom trips.
It all put a damper on the visit during this pandemic period.
It was such an incredible setup, location and the food was delicious. A true gem. Can’t wait to go back!
Food served was at best just a little warm (read, not cold, but neither of us at our table got a hot meal) Had the BBQ special. Did not enjoy flavor (some might though). Steak was tasty - but still was not served hot.
Inattentive service. Felt rushed.
I did not complain because it was a special occasion and did not want to spoil the evening.
Would not recommend and would not return.
Had a great time here at Ancaster Mill. My fiancee and I had dinner here on our original wedding day (pre-covid) and intended to get fancy, celebrate, and savour the venue we had chosen not too long ago. We were reassured about our decision and excited to have our wedding here in 2021! Andrew served us, was gracious, helpful, patient, and made us feel very comfortable. We were seated by the fireplace outside by the waterfalls. The lighting, ambience, and careful attention was appreciated. The steak was tender, juicy, done to perfection. Very happy with our evening here!
Had such a wonderful experience at Ancaster Mill, to celebrate my parents anniversary! They gave us a wonderful table right beside the waterfall, and got a A1 service from our waiter. :)
The atmosphere and service is second to none.
Such a beautiful background. We were right beside a waterfall!
The food was okay, but it wasn't as good as I suspected.
Did not disappoint
The ambiance is fantastic, and service is great. The food is just so-so, though--it's well prepared and nicely presented, but not particularly inspired, and the palates of all the dishes we tried were a little off (ie, potatoes too salty and Parmesan crusted chicken bland because no spices in crust, no cohesion of dish, fresh spices added to seasonal pie which looked beautiful but didn't compliment the flavor profile of the other more typical spices in the pie. It's like somebody went to a high level of finishing school for cooking, but doesn't really have good taste. I don't think I'd go again, because for that price I'd expect better food. But if you want to go somewhere impressive, this is the place.
Fantastic food! Ancaster Old Mill is far better than Toronto, which has been going downhill for a number of years.
Ambience neglected and tables set for a buffet or wedding in the middle of the dining room
Steaks came cold drenched in a creamy corn sauce and very tough. Menu very limited and the only enjoyable item was the corn bread with maple butter
Server tried very hard to make things up
The nice outdoor setting with the waterfalls doesn’t belong to this restaurant
They should just focus on weddings
We have had other dinners here, and have all been outstanding. Recently we went for a wedding anniversary, and while we expected some changes to the seating and restaurant in general, we were quite disappointed with the food overall. I ordered the Steak Frites and it was a quality I would have expected at a chain restaurant like Kelsey’s. My wife ordered the salmon and it was mediocre. Previously we had the ‘tasting experience’ and when we asked about that the server indicated they were the cutbacks to ensure quality’. Again, we expected some changes, but overall the menu was more pub/casual dining than we have experienced in the past, and our bill was 170 which seems pricey given the meal only slightly better than a chain restaurant. Ambiance was still amazing with the waterfall and lovely lighting.... we also missed smaller touches like no linens on the table, plates and silverware were ordinary etc. We will be back, but when it is back to full operation not the ‘cutbacks to ensure quality’.
Not the usual quality of the Mill. Limited menu. 2 appetizers and 2 mains all disappointing
Ancaster Mill is a favourite spot for brunch, but entirely understandable, brunch is not an option just yet.
When booking for dinner, two items were specified: a closer view of the falls as a backdrop, and a birthday celebration. Neither were obliged, and even a friendly “welcome, thank you for celebrating your birthday with Ancaster Mill” wasn’t shared.
Service was decent, at best. Somehow, being seated ahead of two other waiting parties meant that our dinner and drinks would be served last.
The whole experience was a very relaxing one. Scenery was beautiful, food was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful.
The food was very good, the service was okay. The server did not come to the table very often and it took a king time to receive our order. The ambience was poor as the room we were seated in was a spare room, very bare and the carpets were all stained.
The waiters were excellent! Very attentive and friendly, turned on the fireplace outside a bit earlier after we mentioned it would be nice. The food was good, not extraordinary but good. The potato appetizers are amazing! The cheeseburger could be better with a Mac sauce or something like that. Dessert was o.k. Ambiance is over the. Top. We sat beside waterfall and the experience was extraordinary. Most beautiful restaurant I've been too!
We would loved to have seen a fish or seafood option in the appetizer. Also was disappointed in the desert selection. Loved our seat and the food we ordered was fabulous. Great service. Will definitely be back.
The waterfall is definitely lovely and unique. Food is good and service is nice.
As someone who has been here many times, I was very disappointed. We went to celebrate our first wedding anniversary (a very special occasion), came from out of town and for the first time ever were very disappointed. We requested a table in the main room by the waterfall and were placed far away by the bar, near a family with a very dissatisfied child (a very loud and unhappy 7 year old). A couple who arrived after us were seated in the spot we had requested which was the first of our disappointment. They ask if you are celebrating anything special, to which I filled out an anniversary - this was not acknowledged (as it had been in the past for our dating anniversaries)... why ask if you don't plan to say anything about it. They no longer provide complimentary bread - I am sure COVID will be used as an excuse but there is no logical reason for this. The menu was the worst I have ever seen, the options were nothing special... I used to enjoy the unique menu options (a cheeseburger should not be on their menu). The chicken we ordered was subpar - something myself or my husband could easily cook - and the ratatouille looked unappetizing and the taste was not much better. While he was nice, our waiter never checked on us - most of his attention was on his tables in the main area. Overall, it was VERY disappointing and not how it used to be pre-COVID. It is unlikely we will ever go back, nor would we recommend it to friends. We left feeling hungry, and like we wasted our money. We went to McDonald's after, at least you know what you'll get for you money.
🤔 The service was great, the wine choice was commendable, the salmon and chicken were tasty.
