Situated beside a creek, with a large dining room built out overlooking the falls, Ancaster Mill is in demand year-round for weddings, family or corporate events and celebrations. Restored to keep its authentic character intact, this is a place where ambience fuses with fine food and great service.
The Ancaster Mill has an excellent kitchen. The brunch has enough variety to satisfy practically anyone, and the service is friendly and professional. The food is wonderfully prepared, though recently the seasonal vegetables (bok choy) were too spicy and the shepherd's pie was so salty that the delicate lamb flavour was spoiled. Otherwise, we were very happy with the brunch.
Excellent service; beautiful venue; good food. Everything we could have wanted was provided!
Absolutely lovely. The service was outstanding and I don't think we tried anything that didn't "wow" us. The whole night was perfection.
Our visit was a birthday celebration. A special occasion dinner celebration at the Ancaster Mill is a guilty pleasure that we always enjoy experiencing. We've been to the Mill several times previously and have no doubt, will be again several times in the future.
I had Sunday brunch with my boyfriend on my birthday. It was the second time I joined the brunch so easy to tell I liked here. The food quality was consistent but I should give 'Poor' as my review to the service. We arrived on time and was guided by a very non-professional girl to an unacceptably small table. We asked for changing and she agreed, but then we were told that table was reserved for some girls' party reason. That was a common square table accommodates for two (all the other tables of that size in the restaurant were using for two people), so it was totally non sense if we had to eat with a tiny table like a casual coffee shop. We refused to take the small table and we were placed waiting for another 45 mins later than our reservation. It is very low standard of service considering the restaurant image, no solution, no preparation, no compensation. I still gave two stars but not a negative star (which I wanted) was because the third waitress / receptionist talked to us was accommodating and at least smiling professionally.
Sunday Brunch is exceptional. Everything from the food, drinks, ambiance and service.
My wife and I married there in 1996. Awesome as always.
Wonderful experience, definitely come back.
This was our second time visit as a group. The waiter remembered us when we sat at bar waiting for table. It was always a pleasant dining experience. Top recommendation!
took my parents to celebrate dads 73rd birthday. they were amazed that they had never been to this gem of an experience. great service. amazing food and honestly we felt as if we were treated like royalty. second trip for me and my third went be far behind! 10 stars!!!
While the hot food for brunches wasn’t anything too special, my girlfriend and i love this place. Mimosas on the house that keep coming, a cozy feel, and a beautiful view of the waterfall. Fancy, but authentic not obnoxious.
We went for the five course meal. Delicious. The service was wonderful and each dish was explained. Although expensive, it was worth it. The ambiance was beautiful. Each course was well prepared - not too much, so that at the end we were very satisfied. I highly recommend it for a special occasion.
Wonderful family-style service. Great for sharing. Wonderful food and great service. A quaint, beautiful setting.
We went for the Sunday Brunch and that was really good. Really enjoyed the selection of seafood and the oysters were so fresh and clean, one of the best my husband and I have ever had. Also a good selection of cheeses and appetizers.
The hot buffet was a bit more limited but still enough choice including an omelette station, eggs bennie, home made pierogies and a carving station, plus a couple of chicken dishes and veggies / potatoes, there was also lasagna and shepherd's pie (did not like the latter so much). Would have been nice to have a few more vegetarian or more healthy options.
The desserts selection was very good, everything tasted great.
The staff was really nice and waitress was available at the beckon of a hand, excellent service. The venue is beautiful, with a small waterfall at the back where the mill was, very cozy and picturesque.
Overall we thought considering the food selection, it is really good value for the money and we would definitely go back and recommend it to friends!
Went for Sunday brunch and everything was fantastic. Excellent selection and the food is top notch.
An Exceptional dining experience! We went for the Sunday Brunch once again as it is one of our favorites. The staff from the parking attendants to the hostesses to the service staff are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, experienced and quite simply are some of the best! The ambiance is second to none in the area.
I cannot praise the Ancaster Old Mill enough.
Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.
We were there celebrating an 85th birthday. Our bill was brought to us while we were still eateing and were told that we only had the table for 2 hours. Having had numerous conversations with reservation staff prior to the celebration, would it not have occurred to someone to mention that policy??? All the guests had driven significant distances from out of town and were rushed out without presents being opened or speeches made. No warning about this 2 hour policy, I feel, was entirely irresponsible service. Had we known, we would have looked to dinner Saturday. Truly an awful end to what started as a lovely celebration for my father!
Nice view of the falls when you sitting beside window.
Great food and service. Love to come back every year for our anniversary!
beautiful surroundings, great customer service and service itself. Nice rooms, food well display and a good variety of great food.
Delicious as always. Waiter could have refilled coffee more frequently.
Service our waiter is really very good and we were seated at falls view, so nice the best spot in the restaurant. It made the birthday of my friend complete.
Always a perfect experience!!
Noticed the quality of the food slipping...sugar water instead of real maple syrup, 2/4 oysters were off.
It was an amazing time. My husband and I went for our 1 year anniversary since we got married at ancaster mill last year and it exceeded our expectations yet again. Food, service, and the whole experience was outstanding. We will definitely be going again next year.
Delicious food, fresh ingredients, great atmosphere
The location and the view is great! The brunch is outstanding except that we were seated beside a family with toddlers who were quite noisy and making loud noises now and then.Would prefer a scenic view like the window side next time.
Food and service was great. Views were lovely, as always. Little noisy but to be expected at a Sunday Brunch
Had a fabulous time- loved the entire evening. Food was amazing.
We were accomodated very well after a rocky start. We were celebrating our anniversary and the meal we'd came for was out of stock. The manager was amazing and came up with a solution. We ended up having an amazing dinner and evening.
There's something very special hidden deep in Ancaster. This is the ideal place for a special occasion, and worth a drive if you don't live nearby. The food, the wine, the atmosphere are all extraordinary. There is magic to being seated beside a gurgling brook lined with wildflowers, across from a stone building covered in ivy and within view of a stunning waterfall... It's as though one has stepped into a fairy tale. They grow most of their own vegetables & herbs & the seasonally shifting menu is always inventive and exciting, and the wine list is terrific. Before I get to last night's meal, the only caveat I have to a recommendation is the price fix menus they offer on holidays. Our family went last year for Thanksgiving and while the price was generously lowered, the food was not up to the restaurant's usual standards.
Onward to last night! The charred octopus with smoked eggplant caponata appetizer was tasty, although I have to say the one they had a couple years back was better (too soggy and almost pickled overall - it overwhelmed the two star ingredients and you didn't really get that 'grilled or charred' sense of the dish). The Lavender Duck was mouthwatering and surprising! The duck was cooked beautifully and it the sweet, floral notes of the lavender with the duck was a flavor combination I'd never had, and it worked perfectly. The two person shared Tomahawk steak, with truffle mac and cheese, bone marrow and ribs glazed and basted in demi was an incredible celebration of the best beef has to offer. Again, the meat perfectly cooked and seasoned, and those gorgeous ribs offset against the unadorned majesty of the steak was incredible. The bone marrow could have used a pinch of seasoning. Their craft cocktails are usually wonderful, though last night's Margarita Verde was a bit flat, watery and salty. The wine list, however, is outstanding & the 2014 Andaluna Cellars 1300 Malbac was superb.
It was an excellent place to have my 54th Birthday. My family enjoyed the lovely Sunday Brunch.
I asked for a table with a view when I made the reservations and the view was beautiful.
I would have liked to have more vegetarian options such as Egg Florentine or an Asparagus Benedict. The omelette was nice but the egg still could have been thinner.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and we would definitely go back again.
Excellent food and service as always!
Fantastic food and service! One of a kind brunch experience
Food was great. Setting could not be better as the dining area extends out from the original building overlooking the waterfall. Great place to walk the ground before or after a meal.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Thursday night dinner date at the Ancaster Mill. The food and service were great. I would have preferred to be seated somewhere a little quieter - the restaurant wasn't busy, but almost everyone there was seated in the same small area so it did get a little noisier than I expected. Overall, a great cozy dinner spot with a beautiful view.
We went on September 18th for our 30th anniversary as we had our wedding supper there and then our 1st anniversary. It was awesome. We were greeted with sparkling wine, and then confronted with a menu that had so many excellent choices . I changed my choice many times. But. Then our waiter ,whose name escapes me, suggested the flight with wine pairings. We were able to tweak things a bit due to food allergies. The salmon was substituted with a halibut that was seasoned so delicately. Best fish I’ve ever had and I am not a fish person. The fillet of beef....never had such a beautiful choice . I was a little concerned about the rareness because I hate the blood everywhere. But not a drop, and the side of corn ...yummy. Every dish was described to a T. Now to the wines. Everything went so well together and we had to make a tweak with wine too. Our reservation was at 7 and we were in our car at 10. Which is not a complaint. Never did we feel rushed or feel the time was dragging. The timing was perfect. Overall a wonderful night
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and beautiful views along with the delicious meal and helpful staff
I had high expectations due to it's reputation however it did not deliver. I assumed it was a fine dining/restaurant style not cafeteria/family style dining. I didn't anticipate having to serve ourselves and it was incredibly noisy with multiple events going on, children running everywhere. Food was adequate but not for $138 for 2 people, for the ambience I would choose a greasy spoon for one fifth the cost and food that is just as good.
Best customer service! From the valet parking to restaurant staff! Brunch was amazing! Lots of food choices! And the view OMG. Spectacular! Already booked for our next visit! Surprising my husband for his birthday!
