Butcher Burgers, formerly known as Amuse, offers a full menu of burger options, hence the name. Those in Westfield, New Jersey will enjoy the quality that being locally sourced lends to the dazzling array of burger choices. For the non-burger lover, the menu also has a handful of vegetarian burgers, other sandwiches and salads.
The burgers at Butcher Burgers are far from ordinary. Imaginative options include a lamb burger, breakfast burger, surf and turf burger and shrimp burger. Some of the burgers are made with Angus beef, whereas others are Kobe beef. Toppings include everything from crayfish to foie gras. Vegetarians will love the portabella burger which is vegan and gluten free. Butcher Burgers also offers specialty milkshakes and amazing desserts.
The food was good, with ample portion. However, the service was somewhat slow, and the waiter was not very personable. There was a mistake, overcharge, on the bill, and he did not even apologize for the mistake.
Let's start with the lack of air-conditioning, in 80 degree heat. Then we can talk about their shrimp burger that was smothered in hot sauce. The menu didn't indicate that none of the specials come with sides, nor did the server inform us of this. The food took almost an hour to get to us. I will not be coming back.
Very mediocre
Food was tepid. Not served hot.
Quality was ok.
Just not a run back for more.
Very good tasty and quality food with reasonable price
Always outstanding! Traditional French but with a twist. T he trout was incredible as was the duck confit. CJ and staff are welcoming and attentive, Bravo!
We went to Amuse to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary and we're pleased in every way!
We decided to share small plates and there was such a multitude of favors to tickle our palates we couldn't decide on a favorite. We were glad that we chose Amuse to celebrate such a wonderful milestone and would highly recommend it
The food was very good, however the menu is very limited.
Amuse is always a gem. My neighbor and I enjoy it each time.
Delicious food, as usual. One of my favorite places.
It was our anniversary and we wanted someplace special. Amuse did not disappoint. We ordered the special dessert which was chocolate soufle and it was amazing. The dinners were both delicious! We will definitely be back!
The food was delicious. We had the frisée salad, duck confit, another duck dish, and lamb chops. All were great. The sides were good as well - we had snow peas, mushrooms and cole slaw. We finished with coffee, chocolate soufflé, and pineapple sorbet. Good ambiance, nice decor, nice staff.
It's been a year or so since our last visit, and I have to agree with other reviewers that service overall needs some improvement (never a problem previously - there was always a very attentive manager present). This was our first experience with the new small plate menu and we were not impressed overall. Highlight was the crepe. Escargot and beets were pretty good. The burger was just so so, and we did not care for the tarragon risotto. It was bland with just a very dominant tarragon flavor. Either we're simply not fans of tarragon (admittedly not familiar with it), or it should be paired with something more flavorful than white rice. We'll give it some time before our next visit.
We usually like Amuse and have a good meal there. This was not the case on Saturday. Our server was not great, very aloof and seemed not pleased to be there. The food (red snapper and risoto) were both really bland. Disappointed, but will try again.
The small plate menu concept allows for more choices and adventure than a traditional menu. The french onion soup, foie gras, NY Strip Steak, scallops and chocolate souffle were all wonderful. The service was right on. Looking forward to next time.
food down hill with small plates, had duck 2 months ago, it was great, had it this time terrible tough and gravy had no taste.
This is a a GREAT restaurant to go to if you enjoy terrible service and pretentious food presentation. I had hosted a party of 5 for my adult son's birthday. My Caesar salad was presented with the entire head of romaine lettuce (not cut up) with a little grated Parm. cheese, lightly sprinkled on it. My table just laughed at the ridiculousness of this. My older son commented that the Onion soup, in a small bowl tasted very bland. After the appetizers, our waiter apparently had to leave the restaurant -for personal reasons ??. No one else thought to ask if they could provide service until I had asked for the Manager. I had asked for some bread at this table and they reluctantly, brought some. When the food did arrive, it highlighted the bad name some (a few) French restaurants have earned in America, tiny, tiny portions and expensive. I had 4 mini slices of duck, each about the size of a half a dollar. Too bad the price didn't reflect the size. After my table finished their dessert & coffee, my son asked if we could stop off to get something to eat. Go figure ?
My husband and I had dinner here on a Tuesday evening. We have been here several times and have had overall positive experiences but this was our first since they switched to a small plates format. We had read several not good reviews about portion size and service. We loved our dinner. Food was excellent and service was excellent. Professional and attentive but not hovering. I had the Tarte Alsace and Duck Confit plus profiteroles. My husband had the corn soup, risotto and pork loin plus the chocolate fondant. It was a lovely evening.
Definitely a foodie spot this french inspired small plate cuisine, was very yummy, small portions ( a good thing) & my mom's favorite french onion soup in town! Waiter could have been a little more friendly/personable as it was mother's day.
Since we were at Amuse last, the menu has been changed. Instead of the usual appetizer/main course format, Amuse now serves smaller plates and encourages the diner to order 2-4 per person. My wife and I both started with excellent onion soup. She had a small steak and pomme frites; I had mussels and a very nice crab meat risotto. It was plenty to eat. One complaint: when we were told the specials, our waiter mentioned a chocolate dessert souffle. We asked if we had to order in advance and were told no. When a different server took our dessert order, we were told it would be 20 minutes for said souffle. Get your act together!
Love the small plates concept. Love the BYOB. There is a liquor store around the corner if you forget. Parking is tough. We shared the French onion soup, mussels and frites, crabmeat risotto, crepes and bone marrow. Loved everything except the bone marrow.. There was nothing but a 1/2 teaspoon at best of marrow. Really just paid for the bone. Apple crisp was a little disappointing. It's a deconstructed apple crisp missing most of the yummiest parts... The crumbs. We will be back though. Very lovely.
the only disappointment was that the chicken was which my wife has had in the past and
loved was not on the menu that evening
We enjoyed our dinner at Amuse. The menu is not huge but has several interesting choices. The frisee salad was delicious as were the special perch and the moules frites entrees.
The profiterole with salted caramel ice cream and warm chocolate ganache was wonderful. A special tarte appetizer was disappointing. Service is very professional. The atmosphere is lovely. And, the byo policy is a treat.
This is our second time here and we were again very happy with the meal. We love the ambiance of the place and the small touches, like the tidbit (amuse bouche) before the appetizer and chocolates after the meal.
Escargot were extra special. Loved the polenta. Partner enjoyed the chicken.
Menu is varied and portions are generous. We even took home a doggie bag.
I always enjoy dinner here. The food is consistently good and the service is excellent
What more can you ask for?
The menu was enticing. Each entrée was plated with special sides. Souffle was a perfect way to end a delicious meal. Each table has sound absorbing panels placed underneath keeping the noise level down and conversations private.
Try the Duck Breast. It's wonderful with a radicchio slaw on the side.
Diappointed as we made res rvations to try Amuse for Westfield Restaurant week. We had reservations on Friday for lunch. When we requested the special menu, we were told that restaurant week prices did not apply as they said Friday was considered the weekend. I can see how Friday evening might be considered such, but not lunch. However, it stated such on the website, so it was my oversight. Just started the meal being somewhat disappointed at not getting what we had anticipated.
Great local spot for a really nice dinner. Will go back
The food was great but I would have preferred a bit more choice in the entrees.
The food and service were great, as was the overall experience. The food is a tad pricey, but it's worth the cost.
The hostess, who waited on us intermittently with our waiter, was not very friendly or hospitable and had a bit of an attitude. The waiter was very nice and gracious. Would not return as did not feel special and relaxing, even though the food was good.
I made Valentine's Day brunch reservations after seeing the brunch menu on Amuse's site. When we were seated, at noon, we were given the dinner menu. When we asked for the brunch menu, we were told the restaurant doesn't serve brunch and hadn't updated its website. What's more, there was nothing in the restaurant or on the menu to suggest it was Valentine's day (aside from the hostess's red dress). We ended up ordering appetizers (salad and trout coleslaw and a crepe). Very disappointed, especially because we have had excellent dinners in the past. My advice: come for dinner, not for "brunch."
Saturday Dinner at 830pm. Had reservations and was seated within 5 minutes of checking in with the hostess. Wouldn't recommend coat check since there was an 'unique' smell coming from the closet. But other than that minor point, food was great with proper portions. This place does fill up quick so highly suggest reservations. This place is BYOB.
We've been trying to get a reservation at Amuse since it opened and were very surprised to be able to book a table the night before Valentine's Day. We were seated immediately. The food could not have been better. The crepes with seafood appetizer and the smoked trout appetizer were both outstanding and looked as good as they tasted. The seafood risotto was more than I could possibly eat and enjoyed half of it the next day. My husband said the duck confit was the best he's ever tasted. The special dessert left us licking the plate of the chocolate souffle with molten chocolate and vanilla anglaise sauce on the side. The service was fine and the waitress very friendly. The fact that it's a bring your own made it really affordable
Only ok. Food wasn't great. Steak was undercooked (and I like rare steak) and pork chop was WAY overcooked. Very little flavor. Best part of the meal was salad. Savory crepe was mediocre at best. Will not be coming back.
Everything was very nice and the staff was very accommodative in fitting us into an earlier time slot. Server was extremely attentive and friendly.
The duck breast special was amazing, a flavorful lean portion of duck was enjoyed by 3 out of 4 people at our table and we concur it was great. The souffle as always was amazing and wonderful service as well, we will be back!!
Prices different on the web site and in actuality; lattes lukewarm; disappointed overall.
Everything about our meal was enjoyable. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The French onion soup was delicious and sized well as an appetizer. The scallops entrée was cooked perfectly. We will be back.
