We eat at Amuse every time we visit Ashland ... generally twice a year ... and have been doing so since they opened 18 years ago. The food and the service are consistently excellent — on a par or better than similarly priced restaurants in SF, Portland or Seattle.
We had a lovely dinner, as always! The food was delicious, service was great and we look forward to our next dining experience at Amuse.
Delicious innovative and creative food expertly prepared and served by a knowledgeable and personable staff. I have eaten there 4 times now and it is definitely in the top 3 of my favorite restaurants in Ashland - I always make a point to bring guests here! Everyone loves it
another great meal at Amuse. Always consistently very good to great. Service always attentive, not rushed but mindful for those who are attending a play.
Lovely meal with delicious food. Quiet date night spot.
The food was phenomenal and the experience was fantastic. Definitely a great date night or special occasion dinner spot!
The food was amazing and the staff were attentive and friendly.
Very nice quaint establishment. Excellent service and outstanding food
We were second time visitors to Amuse. Wonderful service and cuisine.
Certainly among Ashland's best restaurants, if not the best. All dishes are aesthetically pleasing and cooked to perfection. Portions are generous. I had monkfish with a cauliflower reduction sauce. It was excellent. It ought to be good. The chef is cordon-bleu trained.
Amuse serves good bistro food in a nice environment delivered by a competent and friendly staff. The prices are high, and not commensurate with the potential of the dishes. It would be easy for a party of two to incur a tab for <$250,00, with wine, and ordering servings from each of the 4 different courses. I noticed that many tables around us ordered only two to three courses, keeping the tab within greater reason. Regardless, I would rate the taste of the food a "B", at best. Originality a "B". The presentation an "A", and service an "A". Amuse is a pleasant, intimate restaurant with a bit of an upscale menu which makes for a nice place for a special event.
Ambience was awkward, tight quarters where you felt like you were sitting at the next persons table. You could hear every conversation going on. Dinner was prepared well but not that exciting. Dates with blue cheese and balsamic is not very original, just saying. Gnocchi was over salted, swordfish, not overdone but bland.
Always wonderful! Our server was the best and the food was delicious.
Meal of the year!!!!
The last few years we've spent New Years Eve (which is also our anniversary) here. Occasionally we think about going somewhere else, but always end up deciding to come to Amuse. They never disappoint!
My favorite restaurant in Ashland ~ and it was as wonderful as always. It's my special occasion go-to place....
Amuse is by far our favorite restaurant in Ashland. it's pricey but well worth it. Top quality, elegant and delicious French bistro cooking, impeccable service (thanks Tristan!), the most delicious grilled Ribeye you'll find here or anywhere. One plea: PLEASE BRING BACK THE SHOESTRING FRIES!!! :)
Amuse is excellent in every way. Scrumptious, healthy, beautifully prepared and presented food, friendly and attentive service, warm ambience. The scallops are terrific and the warm chocolate dessert with coffee ice-cream is to die for.
Amuse was fantastic! It was recommended to us by the owners of the Inn we were staying at we were so impressed. On Thursday they have a three course dinner for $42 which a outstanding price. The food was delicious and they are vegetarian friendly!
After hearing about Amuse being overpriced with small portions, we finally decided to try the restaurant for our anniversary. Well, all I can say is it was one of our top dining experiences in Ashland. The restaurant ranks right up there with our favorite Alchemy at the Winchester Inn. Creative combinations, refined flavors and beautiful presentations and, no, I didn't leave hungry or broke...
Our main courses were good, but both were too salty. Our salads and dessert were very good. Considering the price, I expect better. Amuse has nice atmosphere, a good wine list, and good service. It is a nice place for a special occasion. If you are watching your salt intake, you might want to ask the chef to go easy on the salt.
We've come to planning our periodic drives between Seattle and Southern California around a stop in Ashland, principally so we can stop for dinner here. We've never had even a moderately fine meal here: its always been wonderful.
On our latest dinner, I chose the trout, feeling like rolling the dice. So many places that offer trout on the menu manage to mangle it, over-sauce it to hide old fish, overcook it to dust, or in some way make me regret trying it. This time I was rewarded with the best piece of succulent, fresh, and perfectly cooked trout I have ever eaten. The flesh was juicy and flavorful, not at all fishy, while the skin was crispy and oh so tasty. Absolutely perfect!
The wine list is always a delight, with many lovely choices. The Chablis we chose was a perfect match for our dinner.
And of course, the beignets were perfect.
The staff is always gracious, despite mostly working their tails off to be sure to get everyone out the door for the start of their live show somewhere in town. When you come to eat around 6-7, the place is packed, and empties out at 7:30 as people head off to the play of the evening.
We try to schedule our dinner reservation for around 7:30-8PM, so we can catch the restaurant as they're recovering from the pre-show rush, and the place is nearly empty. but even during their peak hours, they're all welcoming and helpful.
I was a single diner, lucky enough to find one last ticket to a play I wanted to see. The hostess seated me at a nice table, and my waiter was there within minutes. Unfortunately, I became the invisible diner after my order was taken. Once my dinner was set before me by another member of the wait staff, I sat with empty glasses of wine and water for over 15 minutes. My waiter walked to the larger tables, right past my table, all evening long and never made an effort to check on me. I finally got up from my table and asked the hostess to send a waiter to my table. Fortunately, a waitress attended to my needs. I had to wave down my waiter at the end of the meal to get a bill. Terrible treatment of a single diner! I will not be back.
Amuse has consistently great menu and knowledgeable and friendly service. Wine selections emphasize local producers and the dining room is charming. We try to dine there whenever we’re in Ashland.
Overall a great restaurant. Pricing is a bit high, even for a fine dining establishment. More wine list options under $40 would be appreciated
This is as close to a Michelin star restaurant as you will get in Ashland. It is perfect for celebrating important occasions. Everything was perfect with our meals.
We try to get to Amuse whenever we visit Ashland. We have never been disappointed. The creativity that goes into the preparation and the quality of the outcome are a treat every time.
don't leave without getting an order of the beignets for desert. They were authentic and delicious. The game hen was excellent, as was the pork loin and salmon. For the quality of what comes out of the kitchen, the price is very reasonable. We've been in NYC four times over the past 5 months and a meal like the one we had at Amuse would easily be 4-5 x as much.
Exceptional restaurant that never disappoints. A must dining experience for every Ashland trip
We live near this restaurant - and had looked through its window - but had not eaten there before. It looked romantic & intimate so when a special occasion (birthday) came around, we decided to try it. It proved to be all that we'd hoped for - decent wine list, interesting appetizers and main courses, wonderful desserts. The ambiance was great - close and cozy without being confining or noisy. And the service was impeccable. A price point fully commensurate with its quality but probably one a little too high for everyday dining.
Wonderful last minute dinner option when I couldn't get tickets to a Shakespeare Festival show that night I'd planned to attend. Instead, researched dining options and came across Amuse - so glad that I did. Terrific meal, service and taste.
We always enjoy eating at Amuse. The food is beautifully presented and they always offer fresh, delicious and creative selections.
We love Amuse. Great food, and they will always accommodate our dietary needs (including being grain free), fabulous wait staff, excellent food preparation (even when modifying the recipes to accommodate us), wonderful outdoor dining rear courtyard.
The indoor ambience is rather plain, but the food is quite good. Fresh salad, a deliciously different take on calamari (not deep fried), pillowy, lucious gnocchi and flavorful salmon. Service was also exemplary.
We've been to Amuse at least twice before, although it has been about six years since our last visit. The menu wasn't very interesting, and seemed almost unchanged. The meal itself was unexciting. Service was lackluster: sparkling water was finally brought on the third request, we had to rush our main course since we had theatre tickets (the staff was aware). The prices were high enough that I would have expected at least more attention and energy in the food.
This was our third visit to Amuse and we are never disappointed. Chef/owner Erik Brown continues to create outstanding dishes with fresh ingredients. The service is exceptional without being formal. This is our favorite restaurant in Ashland!
Amuse Never disappoints! We have come to Amuse periodically for 15 years and love it every time!
What a wonderful restaurant. Food, service, and ambience were fantastic.
