Amuse is excellent in every way. Scrumptious, healthy, beautifully prepared and presented food, friendly and attentive service, warm ambience. The scallops are terrific and the warm chocolate dessert with coffee ice-cream is to die for.

Amuse was fantastic! It was recommended to us by the owners of the Inn we were staying at we were so impressed. On Thursday they have a three course dinner for $42 which a outstanding price. The food was delicious and they are vegetarian friendly!

After hearing about Amuse being overpriced with small portions, we finally decided to try the restaurant for our anniversary. Well, all I can say is it was one of our top dining experiences in Ashland. The restaurant ranks right up there with our favorite Alchemy at the Winchester Inn. Creative combinations, refined flavors and beautiful presentations and, no, I didn't leave hungry or broke...

Our main courses were good, but both were too salty. Our salads and dessert were very good. Considering the price, I expect better. Amuse has nice atmosphere, a good wine list, and good service. It is a nice place for a special occasion. If you are watching your salt intake, you might want to ask the chef to go easy on the salt.

We've come to planning our periodic drives between Seattle and Southern California around a stop in Ashland, principally so we can stop for dinner here. We've never had even a moderately fine meal here: its always been wonderful.

On our latest dinner, I chose the trout, feeling like rolling the dice. So many places that offer trout on the menu manage to mangle it, over-sauce it to hide old fish, overcook it to dust, or in some way make me regret trying it. This time I was rewarded with the best piece of succulent, fresh, and perfectly cooked trout I have ever eaten. The flesh was juicy and flavorful, not at all fishy, while the skin was crispy and oh so tasty. Absolutely perfect!

The wine list is always a delight, with many lovely choices. The Chablis we chose was a perfect match for our dinner.

And of course, the beignets were perfect.

The staff is always gracious, despite mostly working their tails off to be sure to get everyone out the door for the start of their live show somewhere in town. When you come to eat around 6-7, the place is packed, and empties out at 7:30 as people head off to the play of the evening.

We try to schedule our dinner reservation for around 7:30-8PM, so we can catch the restaurant as they're recovering from the pre-show rush, and the place is nearly empty. but even during their peak hours, they're all welcoming and helpful.

Amuse has consistently great menu and knowledgeable and friendly service. Wine selections emphasize local producers and the dining room is charming. We try to dine there whenever we’re in Ashland.

Overall a great restaurant. Pricing is a bit high, even for a fine dining establishment. More wine list options under $40 would be appreciated

don't leave without getting an order of the beignets for desert. They were authentic and delicious. The game hen was excellent, as was the pork loin and salmon. For the quality of what comes out of the kitchen, the price is very reasonable. We've been in NYC four times over the past 5 months and a meal like the one we had at Amuse would easily be 4-5 x as much.

We live near this restaurant - and had looked through its window - but had not eaten there before. It looked romantic & intimate so when a special occasion (birthday) came around, we decided to try it. It proved to be all that we'd hoped for - decent wine list, interesting appetizers and main courses, wonderful desserts. The ambiance was great - close and cozy without being confining or noisy. And the service was impeccable. A price point fully commensurate with its quality but probably one a little too high for everyday dining.

Wonderful last minute dinner option when I couldn't get tickets to a Shakespeare Festival show that night I'd planned to attend. Instead, researched dining options and came across Amuse - so glad that I did. Terrific meal, service and taste.

The indoor ambience is rather plain, but the food is quite good. Fresh salad, a deliciously different take on calamari (not deep fried), pillowy, lucious gnocchi and flavorful salmon. Service was also exemplary.

We've been to Amuse at least twice before, although it has been about six years since our last visit. The menu wasn't very interesting, and seemed almost unchanged. The meal itself was unexciting. Service was lackluster: sparkling water was finally brought on the third request, we had to rush our main course since we had theatre tickets (the staff was aware). The prices were high enough that I would have expected at least more attention and energy in the food.

VERY DISAPPOINTING experience.
Service was inattentive, unaccommodating, and uninformed. Overall, unprofessional, therefore, quite a change from past dining at Amuse.
Server stated that chef/owner has a "new policy" of "absolutely no substitutions ". Refused to substitute or hold any accompanying sides , was absolutely insensitive to dietary needs or preferences. Stated that the chef is "too busy" to do this anymore.
Apparently this policy is very new as it was not stated on menu on web site nor on menu posted for the day.
Apparently the chef/owner reserves the right to substitute as he sees fit. The appetizer I was served did match the server's description. Her response was that "he does that".
There was no one "available" other than our server with whom to discuss our experience. Server said she would pass our comments along to chef/owner when he's not busy.
Prior to this experience we have enjoyed stellar food and service at Amuse since it opened 17 years ago. We generally visit Ashland several times a year, have enjoyed Amuse at least once at every visit, have recommended Amuse to others many times. We cannot recommend it to anyone at this time, and only hope that the chef/owner ceases to be "too busy" to provide customers with a pleasant dining experience.

Amuse's reputation for outstanding food is richly deserved. Although the tables are very closely spaced, the window tables are fun and actually feel much less snugly spaced because of the light, at least in summer. We worried about service when so many of us were seated at the same time (6:00) but the staff obviously is used to it and we received excellent service. The lovely white table clothes and elegant table settings heighten the sense of a special occasion.

We always include a dinner at Amuse in our Ashland visits. It's convenient to the theaters, but also one of the very best restaurants we're aware of. This year, we had our best meal at Amuse. Everything was excellent, and the service was impeccable.

Food was pretty but bland, and I had a barely-attentive server. He whisked away my wine glass without asking if I wanted another. I did, and I would have ordered dessert too. I guess he saved me money, calories, and, perhaps, further disappointment.

I was really looking forward to eating here based on the reviews. Wine was fine. Some of the food was very good. The amuse-bouche was outstanding. The meat and cheese plate was fine, but nothing special. One friend ordered the gnocchi which was very good, but the serving size was tiny even for an upscale restaurant. I ordered the steak, which was a good cut of meat and cooked to the requested level of doneness. Unfortunately, it and the fries were both so salty that I had trouble eating them. We had basil ice cream with shortbread and peaches for dessert. The ice cream was outstanding but the shortbread was really hard and didn't work with the texture of the ice cream. Overall, an uneven dining experience and not up to our expectations.

My husband and I went for our wedding anniversary and we had a great time. The service was amazing, very attentive staff. The food was excellent, just like we were back in Paris. The watermelon and beet salad was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance was great, we were unfortunately near a loud couple but other than that, it was very romantic.

We were in Ashland for Shakespear. This is supposedly the high end restaurant in town. I had made reservations weeks ahead. We arrived right on time, the place was very busy. We were shown to a table right in the main traffic and declined it. The hostesss reluctantly moved us to a better table in the front window. From there everything went well except for feeling a bit rushed, but that may be because there were theatre goers looking at their watches (phones.)
Service was friendly, food was nicely presented but a bit ordinary white tablecloth fare.

We were celebrating our anniversary (noted in the reservation and again with the waiter when seated) which was the last time we heard the word anniversary except in our own conversation. Ordered glasses of wine (3-4 dollars higher than most but it was ok) and two appetizers. The first was the roasted beet salad. Nothing really special and certainly have had much better at less expensive restaurants. The other was the crispy sweetbreads - which were excellent. For the main course, my wife ordered the roasted game hen which was average but good. Nothing special in flavor and the sides (turnips and mustard greens) were fine but again, nothing special about the flavor or taste. I ordered the ribeye steak with fries - and asked to make sure the steak was tender and cooked to med-rare. The waiter said that if I didn't like the steak he would bring something else at no charge. The steak was med-rare on one half, med well on the other half (how I have no idea) and it was tough. However, the waiter never returned to our table to ask how the steak was after delivering our dinner- only returning to ask if we wanted dessert and provide us with the bill. Other wait staff kept our water glass filled. I can't remember the last time I left no tip - and I felt bad. But the steak was not cooked very well and was tough (I only ate about 1/3 of it) and the broccoli was without any taste and stringy. And he never asked how we liked our meal - was absent from the time he delivered the plates until we were finished. $150 is not a small amount to expect a little big more than we received. Sorry - I know there are a lot of reviews that are glowing but I'm unable to add my recommendation for this restaurant.

Small, intimate place with farm to table ingredients. The outdoor patio was lovely. The food was interesting and beautifully prepared. Our server went out of her way to make our experience enjoyable, ie a taste of wine that I considered but did not order and a sweet at the end though we did not order dessert. Overall I would recommend highly.
