Amura - Dr. Phillips Ratings and Reviews
I was disappointed. I’d been before, and had good service and great food. But this time around it seemed mediocre at best, with the service being the most note-worthy. Even then, it was your average service, without anything special. The menu had decreased severely, and the quality of food was akin to a fast-food Chinese place. Definitely won’t be back.
I have severe food allergies and simply asked for shrimp and vegetables sauteed in oil over their plain white rice. The server came back and said that the owner said they could not accommodate me because it was Valentines Day.... no special orders. I said there is literally nothing I can eat on the menu without altering it. The owner never came to our table and instead sent the server back to say I am so sorry but he won't do it. Mind you it was 5:45 and the restaurant was only half full. We even chose not to eat on the hibachi side so that we wouldn't have to inconvenience the hibachi chef and the other patrons at the table. It was absolutely horrible. We are locals and WERE regulars. We have spent many a lunches, birthdays and date nights there... never again!
Four of us had a wonderful dining experience. We had the sushi variety platter that was excellent. The ginger salad is very good. It’s actually an iceberg salad with house made ginger dressing that was light yet tasty and delicious. Two of us had the trio - shrimp, chicken and beef in a brown sauce that was a 4.5 / 5.0. Our server was delightful and attentive but slowed a bit when a large table was seated next to us. I would still say she was excellent. We’d go back again. I forgot we starte with the calamari and it was as good as anywhere I’ve had it. We ordered too much food! Definitely recommend Amura.
Overall it was pretty gross, will NOT recomend to anyone. Here the details.
The place was empty when we came in at 7 on a Thursday, first sign that the restaurant wasn’t going to be good. We sat down at the hibachi. The place looks run down and full of grime even on the floors.
Sushi rice was dry, the food at the hibachi was covered in soy sauce and ridiculous amounts of teriyaki’s sauce to cover for the poor quality food products. Sesame sauce for your meat.... non existent here.
Also, the exhaust fans make the inside of the place unbearable. There was a 40 degree draft inside the hibachi. People had to be wearing jackets to bear with the cold temperature is die the restaurant.
The only thing worthwhile was our server.
My sisters and I don't have much of a chance to see each other, but when we do we inevitably go for sushi. My sister who lives in Orlando will only come to Amura for sushi because she feels like it is the best in the area. Now that we have come as a group, I think I agree.
The ambiance was great, the service attentive and fast, the food was super and the prices were reasonable.
We'll definitely be back!
Went to AMURA for our 13 yo daughters birthday dinner and they did a marvelous job of educating our girl on culinary sushi variations. EZ the waiter kept us all very entertained, recommended perfect drinks for all and took pictures for us as a family
Nightly recommended special occasion place for Fathers to take their daughters and wife
We had a big group. We came in for a reunion. I asked if we could have "some privacy" so as not to disturb other customers. They suggested the Hibachi room - and gave us 2 tables. It was perfect because we had the room to ourselves most of the time. Our server was excellent, so accommodating, friendly and serviceable.
