Amura - Downtown
I love this place! The menu has been in transition, and they don’t have as many rolls as they did in prior years, but each one we have tried has been delicious. We tried the Pork Belly Bao, and it was great! I had a Bubba and my husband had. New Orleans and a Red Orange. The manager stopped by to greet us, and she remembered our favorite wine. Those are the details that keep us coming back!
I had a reservation, but waited for a table anyway. They were (expectedly) busy. There was a game, show and concert that night. It took an hour to get food, making us late for the concert. Completely unacceptable for a bowl of edamame and two rolls.
I haven't been to Amura in several years, and now I remember why. I was with a group of 4 and we ordered. I asked for no sauce on top of my roll because it had dairy in it and I'm allergic. It was delivered to the table (by the manager) with sauce all over it. She said they'd remake it right away. 30 minutes later, I still did not have my roll, the server did not seem concerned and was not attentive and my friends had each finished the 2 rolls (each) they had ordered. When my roll was brought to me by the manager, she said, "of course, we'll take care of this for you," and I thanked her. I quickly ate because we had somewhere to be. When the checks came, only $7.50 was discounted from my check - my roll was $18. I told the server the manager said she'd take care of the roll. He said he'd remove it. I told him that if it was going to take another 30 minutes for that to happen, I'd just pay for it because I don't want to wait anymore. When he took our credit cards, the manager took the roll of of my check, which should have been done the first time.
1) It's not as if the restaurant doesn't know when events are happening downtown and can plan accordingly with additional servers and sushi chefs.
2) It should have taken 5 minutes, tops, to remake the roll I ordered. There were more than 5 sushi chefs making rolls.
This experience was a reminder of why I haven't been back in many years, and I won't be back in the future.
Instead, I will spend my hard earned money at local sushi restaurants where the staff and chefs care about the customers and have MUCH better customer service, rolls and fresher fish.
Not enough servers. 2 out of the 3 of us got our drinks and the third person didn’t get theirs for an hour!!!! Slooooow service.
Not as good as the Sand Lake location- the menu and atmosphere are better, sushi is still fantastic.
The restaurant was no longer called Amura. Open table needs to update their listing.
It is lovely to be recognized when you revisit a restaurant! We were welcomed and seated in our requested area. The manager introduced us to our server, and made us so at home. The menu is in transition, and we like the changes! The appetizers were comped, and delicious. Our rolls were excellent and beautiful. My tuna sashimi was everything it should be. There have been a lot of changes in this place in the last couple of years, but the service has remained good and the food consistently excellent.
Food presentation was fenomenal & tasty. Hostess very friendly & attentive.
We enjoyed Amura. The food and service were great, only small complaint was the dinner portions on ginger salad were small. We also learned the the restaraunt is changing names and menu to a Japanese focus soon.
What happened to this place. Used to be great
Not the cleanest and expensive
We have been eating here for years on and off. Diner downtown location Saturday evening and the place was empty. A bunch of servers standing around not doing much. Service was horrible, super slow! Took 20-30 min just to get a glass of water or a cocktail. Food arrived beyond slow and in weird orders, because they kept having to cancel our items ordered as kept “running out” of certain fish. But then we would get delayed order of it. Was very strange. The specials of they day , we tried a few.. the mautia (fish sushi special /spelling off ) was beyond difficult to chew and full of grit if fish even have grit. The cocktail special i had was great but took minimum 30min to receive my drink , again the place was EMPTY! We received part of our food order before drinks ever arrived ! When i was almost done with my meal server asked if i wanted another drink. I declined as i didn’t want to wait another 30 min for a second drink. We eat out a lot and this is by far the worst service we have had in a long time.
Lobster roll is the best! Went there for lunch with my two daughters and wife. Got there late for my reservation and they held my table. Great place. Definitely will be back.
Went to the downtown location on Saturday with family before a show. When we got there, they were out of menus. We wait for a bit before we got waters. Then they don’t have sushi menus. They were out of ramen. The tempura was under cooked. The tempura shrimp was the size of my pinky. Over priced and disappointing food. Note: we’ve been going to Amura for years. After the ownership change a few months ago everything has been going down hill.
Wasn’t the Amura I expected- the space is extremely tight and small. Staff seems to be running like a chicken with out a head
Going to a show
We were going to a show at the performing arts center and met as a group before hand. Everything was great. And we got to the show in plenty of time. The food is just awesome!
Pre-concert meal near downtown venue. No wait on our table. Pleasant staff. Waiter was attentive. Enjoyed both appetizers and both “pressed /sushi rolls.
Food sucked. Overpriced. Manager was very professional and generous. Waiter was okay:
Our waiter Nick was professional, funny, accommodating and delightful. He was knowledgeable about the menu and if he didn't know the answer, he willingly found the answer.
Terrible disappointment. Understaffed and sushi took over one hour for people. We were advised by waiter to get hot food because we were waiting so long as were others so we ordered Udon and it was awful. Dirty spoons with lipstick all them, greasy tempura for Udon and appetizer of Calamari was just as greasy. The worst meal ever at an Open Table restaurant! Completely ripped off for eighty dollars and not one reduction in price offered. Restaurant was full of mad people. Oh and there is no
Liquor license here but they have quarter glasses
of wine. There is NOTHING good to say.
Reservation was @ 6:15, got seated right away, ordered by 6:30, told waiter we were going to a play. We ordered a sushi dinner (12 pieces nigiri) & 1 roll. Food took a long time - waiter was good, but was nerve wracking. Finally got food about 7:15, giving us about 15 min to eat!
The restaurant was only half full, had 3 sushi chefs working. They take orders to go. We think that was the issue, they made dine-in patrons wait, due to to-go orders. Bad plan.
I would not go again if we have time constraints. Otherwise, food & service was good.
Could be a 5 when the reno is done.
Amura is consistently one of the finest restaurants in town for great sushi.
Even though it was a very busy Saturday night, we were seated quickly. We were in and out in about an hour, which was great because we had a Broadway show to see. Our server was polite and did his job well. I would have liked a drink menu so that I could see that the house Chardonnay I ordered was $9/glass, which was a bit of a surprise, but other than that, everything was perfect. Sushi was delicious as usual!
Good food. They are in the middle of renovations. Prices are pretty high compared to other good sushi spots.
Great service, great food
We really enjoyed our time at Amura! The service was great and the staff very friendly! We split edamame and each got a signature roll and everything was perfect! We look forward to coming back!
The sushi chef was 40 minutes behind on orders and the hostess seemed unorganized. The restaurant was dirty and the plates were not sterilized one bit as they were greasy.
Great sashimi. Good service
This is by far the best Japanese restaurant we have found in Orlando. The sushi is always fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The entire menu is outstanding. They are always adding great, unique specials and the main dishes are excellent. We also love all of the noodle bowls. The service is wonderful, they are very attentive, helpful and they are very knowledgeable about the menu. Overall it is a wonderful place and I highly recommend it!
Food was great but very slow to come out. Waited about an hour to get food! Thus eating was rushed to make it to the show on time.
Girls night out
Glad we made a reservation because it was crazy busy ( concert in near by venue). Our server was attentive and mentioned there might be a wait for our food. It was not really that long a wait.
Mexican roll was delicious crunchy tempura shrimp and my husband enjoyed his mackerel nigiri.
We were in and out in about an hour and 15 minutes
Great dinner. Sushi was exceptional. Service friendly but not overbearing.
Been here a couple times and always good. They have also been willing to build custom rolls when I want something not listed on the menu. Our server was very sweet and kind. I'll be back for sure.
They did not have the tuna belly or yellow tail belly which was a draw for us. We were not impressed. They were friendly.
When Amura downtown changed ownership, I was not sure how I would like the new owners. I am really pleased. They have stepped up the menu, and the sushi is more imaginative and really delicious. We dine there every couple of months, before heading to the theatre. They accommodate our schedule and always make us feel welcome.
As always, great service!
Took my mother here for her birthday and was beyond impressed. Everyone is so nice, Kiara was very knowledgeable about the menu and everything tasted very fresh. Will always recommend and continue to bring friends and family.
