Amore Uptown Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at a table and the server came by after about 5 minutes and said she'd be back soon to take our order. We waited and after 15 minutes when she still haven't been back, we just left. We were in a hurry to go see a movie, which obviously isn't the restaurant's problem, but I think 15 minutes is a bit too long to wait to place a drink order. So, first impression was not good.
I wish they had better/more options for food on their happy hour menu. Their patio menu in general doesn't offer a whole lot. The wine is cheap and is served in small plastic cups on the patio which feels more like a sports bar move, but then again, it was happy hour. The server had a massive group along with our table, so service was slow, but he did the best he could. We ended up having to pay at the bar because it took so long for him to close out our tabs.
Was given a $100.00 gift card as a Christmas gift and they refused to take it. Gift card had no expiration date and felt no urgency to make the 100 mile trip to use it. They said they changed ownership and sent out emails notifying customers of an imposed timeline for gift cards to expire. First, they didn’t have the email of the gift giver, let alone mine. Second, they had to know the value of outstanding gift cards when transitioning ownership. Worst of all, not even a gesture was made. A discount on the $90.00 bill or free dessert? Nothing. Won’t eat there again - not how I would do business.
I made a lunch reservation through OpenTable for Monday, October 16. The reservation was accepted. When we got to the restaurant, we discovered that Amore Uptown is no longer open for lunch on Mondays! A wasted trip for us! OpenTable and Amore Uptown need to get their info straight. We are very unhappy.
Our wait staff, Nina, was attentive and friendly. We went for brunch for a birthday and she brought a special birthday dessert for all of us. Four people ordered 4 different entrees and everyone loved their food. We will definitely be returning. We didn't use the outdoor deck but will return in the summer to use it.
Apparently the restaurant thought we didn't show up? We received an email from OpenTable saying the restaurant had reported us as a no-show. The maitre'd appeared to be in a hurry when we arrived, and somewhat grumpy. The food was fine, but a bit overpriced for what it was. The AC was way too strong and cold, and was blowing directly on us, and the food.
Have visited Amore in the past and was curious to see how it is with new ownership. We enjoyed the rooftop dining on a very comfortable summer evening. The service was friendly and efficient. We were there on a Monday and they had several specials including a Veal Parmesan that was quite generous, delicious and reasonable. We split the Calamari appetizer which was also nicely prepared. We would certainly go back again
Oddly, an Italian place serves the best french fries of our lives.
The pomodoro was good (tomatoes made the dish and I'm not a tomato lover).
The pizza was mediocre.
We loved dining on the rooftop, in the sun. Definitely will be headed back on a date. Most likely only in the summer.
Somethings changed, and it's not good. The food was mediocre at best. The sauce on my ravioli had nearly broken from being set under the heat lamp for quite some time. The stuffing inside the ravioli left something to be desired, mainly flavor. My Fiancé dish also seriously lacked flavor & basic cooking technique. Her chicken seemed to be microwaved, or possibly sitting in warm water, as it's consistency was similar to rubber. The broccolini served with it, had be quickly blanched without seasoning applied to it prior to plating. If these dishes were not priced well above other restaurants in the area, I would give them a pass, but they are at or above other Italian restaurants in MPLS. A $25+ dish should taste like a $25+ dish, not a lunch time take-out order from Olive Garden. There's really no excuse for the lack of flavor, unseasoned vegetables, precooked/reheated items at an establishment that expects their patrons to spend ~$100/meal.
