Amor Cubano Ratings and Reviews
My family went here for Thanksgiving dinner. They had a "traditional" turkey dinner with all the usual sides. Only my youngest daughter had that and loved the mashed potatoes (asked for an extra bowl). My wife, older daughter, and myself ordered off the regular Cuban menu and it did not disappoint! LARGE portions! We got two full meals out of the portions of one meal. I had a traditional pork dish, my wife a gigantic and delicious salad and maduras to die for. My daughter had a salmon dish that she loved. Don't skip the mojitos. They have several variations (I had peach, champagne and coconut and my wife stuck with Mango). All were delicious and didn't skimp on the alcohol. Highly recommended. It was quite loud with a live band when we first arrived at 8pm. Later when the band came back, they seemed to have brought the volume down a bit, so we could carry on a conversation. Very friendly and attentive staff. This is a true gem in our E. Harlem neighborhood.
I would not recommend this restaurant. Their NY health grade was Grade Pending. We should not have gone in, but we were meeting friends from Connecticut and didn’t know where else to go.
The food was mediocre at best and the live band was so loud that we could not talk even in an adjacent private room.
I really like this restaurant and come here from time to time. My only disappointment is that even though I had a reservation, they asked me to wait at the bar for half an hour before they had a table available. I was expecting them to make a table available for me before my arrival.
Went here with a group of casual friends. It was a great place to get to know each other. The atmosphere was lively but not too noisy (until the music started, which is terrific but very loud for the space.) The food was fun and very tasty. The hostess could have been more helpful leading us through the menu, but we liked what we ordered so all was well.
Tonight was our anniversary (too often spent at the Michelin/Eater noted darling of the moment, or the "old guard" classic). We decided on Amor Cubano on a whim amidst two very busy workweeks and perpetually packed social schedules. We are so very fortunate in our late planning and Latin-cravings! Service was perfect, food was authentic yet appropriately refined, ambience was lovely., and we were offered special touches for our occasion. We will return... soon!
The service was outstanding, the live music was genuine and the food was fantastic! Me and my friend had an amazing time at Amor Cubano. They really took good care of us and they where so sweet. We couldn't be more satisfied than we where. Thank you Amor Cubano for everything <3
Food was okay, not outstanding; despite a nearly empty restaurant for Sunday lunch, music was cranked up so that conversation was impeded. We asked for less volume, and got the overhead speakers turned down slightly, but it shouldn't have been necessary. Service was leisurely and a bit erratic despite plenty of employees, but we were not in a hurry. Some servers smiled, most didn't put themselves to the effort. My biggest peeve was that with a table for 8 our bill had a 20% service charge, which I was fine with, but the charge slip had the tip box highlighted so as to collect another service tip if you didn't notice the first one--cheap trick.
We went there last Sunday evening for a quiet evening.
The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for.
The live entertainment was awesome and the food was "oh so delicioso"!
We really enjoyed the "Amor Cubano" experience....
We took a good friend to celebrate her birthday and she positively loved...(and so did we!) Amor Cubano. Great atmosphere! Waiter service was impeccable and when the music started, our birthday friend couldn't sit still! The food was wonderful-try Tia Teresa's Tostones Rellenos and the guava mojitos amazing! You have to check this place out, it will be well worth your while!
This place was absolutely incredible. The chickpea appetizer almost brought me to tears, and of course I tried the other plates around the table and was floored. We went for brunch and their Mango Bellini's were out of this world. They even surprised my friend who was celebrating his birthday with a free shot of some of the best rum I've had. Our waitress was also wonderful, very friendly and attentive.
Definitely recommend this place!!
Amor Cubano is a great option for authentic Cuban food for those looking to get away from midtown Manhattan. We like Cuban food and are always looking for good finds. We were looking for a good dining experience with authentic Cuban food in an environment which would not be touristy. I had been to Victor’s and Havana Central in Times Square previously and, while okay, did not find those to be ideal. Havana Central was too touristy, lacked intimacy and too chain-restaurant in feel. Victors is fine, with good food but the feel is too stiff and formal for my preferences. I love Guantanermas at 8th avenue between 55th and 56th street and go there every visit to New York City. I was looking for another restaurant similar in feel to Guantanmera’s and found Amor Cubano. The restaurant is intimate, comfortable and most importantly, has excellent, authentic Cuban food and exceptional customer service. The wait staff was very attentive, very helpful and offered excellent suggestions from the menu. Price point on the food items was reasonable. Particularly good is the Yuca Rellena appetizer and Lechon Asado that is accompanied by a fantastic orange mojo. Also, there is live music with a small stage. However, I can’t comment on the quality of the musical entertainment as we went in the afternoon. It was an easy subway ride from midtown. We will go back in the evening on the next NYC visit to experience Amor Cubano at night with music.
