We have been many times and the food is just great. The sauces are excellent and the food quality terrific. The staff is gracious and attentive. We had a great time and highly recommend Amma.
Food was amazing! We ordered a lamb dish ...fresh and nicely seasoned, in a rich sauce! Highly recommend.
For 2 , the table and space given was congested . Food and service was good, i would recommend others to try it.
This is a restaurant to enjoy — the food, the ambiance and the service. We ordered way too much but enjoyed it all from appetizers to deserts. The food was not chili pepper hot but it was so tasty that, spice lovers though we all were, we didn’t mind at all. We started with a complimentary appetizer or amuse-bouche that foretold the pleasures to come. The spinach chat with sprouted mung bean salad was exceptional. I never eat samosas (vegetarian selection) but loved theirs. The shrimp curry, lamb vindaloo, and beet kofta were great. Gulag jamun and rasmalai rounded off a very satisfying evening. The waiters were helpful but not hovering. On a Monday night, the place was calm. We would definitely go back.
We love the food, the service, the ambiance...everything is great. This is one of my very favorite restaurants in the city
Most of our dishes were excellent. Most outstanding was the service, particularly from the manager/part-owner. From seeing us on the street looking lost to allowing us to divide our bill the way we requested, he was extremely professional and welcoming.
We chose the tasting menu, which is definitely worth it. Food was excellent, interesting and well served.
We found the food and service to be lovely. Each of our dishes were flavorful- the 3 types of rice (I especially enjoyed the mint rice), the wonderful vegetables smothered in an interesting sauce, and the subtle rosemary bread.
The staff were particularly attentive, even filling my water glass repeatedly, which I appreciated.
Though the entrance to the restaurant requires you passing the mailboxes of the residents that live in the building, the actual dinning room was warm and charming.
It's an enjoyable, cozy find in our sometimes sterile, oversized city.
Excellent food. Nice ambiance. Service a little slow.
Our family has had a lot of Indian food over the years and this was easily one of the best ever. Small, intimate place with outstanding service and butter chicken (Tikki Masala) as good as it gets. Strongly recommend. Little hard to find and small on the inside, but well worth it once you are there.
The food was delicious and the service was wonderful; I highly recommend this Indian “gem” in NY. Can’t wait till next time!
I’ve had better Indian food at all-you-can eat buffets for $12.95 per person.
The ambience is excellent, the wait staff dedicated and friendly, and the menu is glorious— such fine balance in the spices and tastes. A wonderful dining experience.
Simply wonderful Indian cuisine. The service is always perfect.
Serves was excellent and very attentive. Also the wait staff assisted us to make our food choices. Food was delicious. Lastly, we were in a big rush to make it to see a Broadway show and they helped us to get to the musical in time!! We will definitely go back!!
BEST INDIAN FOOD!!!! Yum. The servers are very helpful and always cheerful. A really great night. Thank you!!
Excellent food and attentive service
One of the better Indian meals I've had in New York City.
We have been to Amma several times and each time it has been fabulous. We are a different kind of diner. We are long time vegetarians and rather than look at the menu, we ask our waiter to bring us food as if we were guests at their home rather than purchasing food from them. The only stipulation is that the food not be spicy...We always have a great meal. Amma has a great wine list which is unusual for an Indian Restaurant.
This was our first visit to Amma. Our server helped us select dishes from an outstanding menu and paired our selections with a wonderful wine. Our exceptional dining experience was so enhanced by the warm and gracious service we received. Their signature gin martini was the best I've ever had in the city. We look forward to returning on our next trip.
Excellent food and service. The desserts were incredibly delicious. We are both looking forward to coming back ASAP.
Everything was delicious and service and drinks were great but I was a little disappointed with how small the portions were. Also I was disappointed with the small amount of nan we got. It was cut up and there were like 3 pieces. I left hungry.
Great food, authentic. Spotty service, slow on water, ignored for a while.
Being Indian, we tend to eat Indian once wherever in the world we travel and this time we had a nephew with us, who hadn’t eaten good Indian food in awhile. The appetisers were not outstanding e.g. the Kati roll did not hang together and there was no lemon/lime inside. The service too was not attentive, till I made a comment to the more senior waiter. The entrees were better but again the butter chicken was not marinaded properly before being cooked in a fairly tasty sauce. In summary, a local curry place able to charge relatively high prices because of the neighborhood. Not a memorable experience but not bad either.
Amazing food. Very well spiced. Perfect on a cold day!!!
My favorite restaurant in NYC! Great ambiance, food, and service!
Absolutely lovely. Beautiful setting, muted lighting, muted sound, delicious and creative food and cocktails. Very pleasant and unobtrusive service. I will return often.
My favorite Indian restaurant ever. Love this place. Butter chicken is the best in NY
Good food and authentic. Friendly service. The waiters were welcoming and helpful with making choices. Would recommend this restaurant to friends looking to have Indian food in New York.
The waitstaff could not have been friendlier nor more helpful. Our 11 and 13 year olds loved all the recommended dishes.
Food is always delicious. Service outstanding. Small cozy space. Great wine list. Highly recommend
I went to celebrate my friend’s b-day.
The food was excellent and our server gave us great suggestions.
The restaurant is a converted apartment in a brownstone, so not handicap accessible and the entrance is confusing. You have to go into the brownstone and it’s the first door on the left. It’s also tight quarters.
Only criticism is that I had requested a candle on the dessert but they forgot.
Love this place! Great staff and Jay helped us with a great wine pairing.
We live in Nashville where there are no good Indian restaurants. This place is AMAZING. be sure to have the okra, the cauliflower and the Butter Chicken is fantastic!!!!! I swear. This place is truly a gem!!!
One of our favorites ever in NYC or anywhere for Indian food! Makes me want to become a vegetarian with some of their dishes... wow! I still dream of the Spinach Chaat... Must try!
Precooked chicken tough
Spinach way overcooked to lifeless mess.
Wine glass pours very small.
Overpriced for food quality
I’ve been here 5 or 6 times....love this restaurant!!!!
Amma is a great neighborhood gem for Indian food lovers. Great service, amazing food.
We loved Amma. It is small and charming, cozy and charming. The food was wonderful. We LOVED the okra.
was our last night in NYC and dinner had been hit/miss affair. so planned on somewhere nice and landed here. server made excellent recommendations and was very accommodating, even charging my phone. loved the okra dish, best okra we ever had. love good meat/protein, but judge a restaurant by the way vegies are treated. they are treated very well here. and loved the stuffed lamb with apricots; wow.
