chicken tikka masala
Food was very good except the plain Naan( too greasy ) , the service was too slow !!!
Had a quiet early dinner on Tuesday evening. The food was the usual high quality and the service was very good though the waiters were often serving the outdoor tables. Overall, the expected pleasant dining experience and the food is as always great!
Food was fantastic. Authentic. Very well served and service was excellent.
Wonderful place all around. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Amma is one of our fav restaurants- Thursday lunch was an aberration (hopefully)
The inside is a bit tired looking and we decided to eat outside which is adequate. Service was a bit underwhelming and the wait for our food bordered on the excessive. The food was tasty though. If we lived nearby we might return but the whole experience didn't seem worth the special trip to get there.
So delicious, great value, great service. One of my all time faves.
Lovely ambience & good service. My hubby and I had the lunch specials, he had the chicken tikka and I had the Goan fish curry. Both were delicious and great value! Will def be back here
Food was delicious and staff was so friendly! Will definitely be back
The food was great especially Anna’s Jackfruit dish was very flavorful.
Great food and great owners. Really put love into the food. Would return
Amma is on of my favorite Indian restaurants in the city. The food is outstanding and the ambience inside the restaurant is perfect.
The tables in the street seemed atrractive until trucks passed and the natural dirt and insects from NY streets started coming out. Servicié slow, food delicious, well cooked. Will go back and sit in the inside.
The food was wonderful, the service good and they were very attentive! I will definitely return!
Good food, the owner was present all time and get into details. The tandoori chicken the best.
We sat outdoors … possibly no fault of Amma but place stinks of sewer.
Portion size very small even for a NYC Restaurant week!
Shrimp was dunked in tomato ketchup and Kheer had rice that was badly undercooked. Even naan was sub-par!.
Been to many other Indian restaurants over last 15 years in NYC / NJ .. and I never rated something so low.. may be the place lost it’s Mojo..
Simply marvelous cooking served in a lovely room.
Excellent food, but very slow and unresponsive service. Music was annoyingly loud.
A friend and I chose Amma for a post lockdown reunion. We both love Indian food so it seemed like a good choice. And it truly was! A lovely, quiet place with excellent food and warm attentive staff, we loved every minute of our long lunch. The prices were very fair for creative turns on some of my favorite dishes as well as dishes I've never had before. A long thoughtful discussion about the heat level of the vindaloo, ended with me opting to try the eggplant instead. However I was given a small dish of the vindaloo sauce just to taste! Plans were made for me to have that, mixed with a plain curry next time. And there will surely be a next time. In fact, my friend and I are reserving the amazing looking tasting menu for a birthday dinner. Give yourself a treat, lunch, dinner or tastings, you can't go wrong with Amma!
I don’t know where the other reviewers have been eating, but we found Amma to be average at best. If this is considered the best Indian restaurant in New York City, or even midtown, the reviewers need to expand their experience with Indian food. Do not get the tasting menu. It is just a collection of some of the most commonly ordered dishes, many of them served on the same plate at the same time. And definitely do not get the wine pairing. The “pairing“ consisted of a small glass of champagne that had to be stretched over the first two dishes, a single glass of white wine that had to cover the next four(!) dishes, a red wine for the next-to-last dish, and a sauterne served with ice cream. Service was adequate, but nothing special, and very informal. (A woman who appeared to be the wife of the owner looked like she had just come in from the beach (Bermuda shorts, untucked beach shirt, flip-flops.) The dining room was (how do we say this?) “very tired”. I am positive that a diner can find better Indian food in a much more appealing setting elsewhere.
Perhaps the best Indian restaurant in town. Never lets us down. Outstanding personalised service.
We ate inside at a table for four. Nicely air conditioned. Everyone was respectful of our space & conversation was quiet—even at the table for 7. Could barely hear them. Given the delicious food, we were all busy eating!
Amma is delicious. My second time there and I really enjoyed the lunch special.
Had lunch there before heading to the MET. Restaurant seating is looking old and worn, I ordered the chaat which was ok, and the chicken biryani, the chicken pieces were very dried so I picked all those out. Very disappointing and over priced.
We have dined at Amma multiple times over multiple years and have been pleased with our experience. The food is creatively prepared, well presented and of an appropriate quantity. This time was no exception. However, they have added tables outside, which have almost doubled their seating capacity. Together with what appears to be a brisk takeout business, their kitchen has become seriously overextended. We waited over an hour and a half for our entrees to arrive and one turned out to be incorrect. Our experience was not unique since several other patrons made similar comments at the time. Whether this was due to staff shortages or poor planning, the issue will need to be corrected.
Delicious food. Different from the regular Indian fare. Loved it!
Excellent food and even reasonably priced given the location. A long time restaurant here and the owner and staff are always pleasant and efficient.
Good food great options
Recommend for weeknight or weekend!
This place has steeply declined however they have kept their crazy prices. They now cater to drink college kids. I wouldn’t bother unless you’re in that demo.
Delightful ambiance outdoor on patio - Amma did a good job to make the space inviting, clean, nicely lit and good background music. Food delicious - lots of interesting dishes, especially the paratha ww breads and Peshawar naan. Wine list exceptional with many superb values (Kerner under $50 in NYC!)
There was ample outdoor seating, and the option to choose a lunch menu or items from their regular menu. If you are really hungry, I suggest using the regular menu. But the food in the lunch menu was delicious and portions fine for those of us that prefer light lunches. Service was very good, and not at all rushed.
This is the best Indian in Manhattan, always a favorite in my family. The food is outstanding and the service is friendly and attentive. What more could you want?!
We always enjoy dining at Amma’s. The food is exceptional. Perfectly spiced. A very good menu for vegetarians and meat eaters. Look forward to our next visit.
We ordered a lamb curry dish for the first time here and it was very delicious. Chicken TikkaMasala, Saag Paneer and Vegetable JalFraizee were delicious too. The crispy okra converted another okra hater to okra eater! Garlic Nan was loved by everyone too. Good food made for a good family event.
Really good food and friendly, first NY restaurant visit since COVID. Will definitely make a return trip.
Excelente la calidad de los alimentos como siempre en AMMA, sinembargo las instalaciones exteriores por la pandemia no son tan bonitas y acogedoras como el interior del restaurante. El servicio tambien ha bajado un poco
Delicious food, excellent and unobtrusive service. It's a favorite spot.
After fifteen desolate months it was good to be back , welcomed back , the lay out so so different , the food and the kindness just the same.
Outdoor seating was covered but the smoke from the hookah bar next door was not nice. So nothing against the restaurant.
UN family favorite!
