Poor management. No heaters for outdoor seating ( only 2 out of 10 tables were given heaters). While we were patient enough to see if we could be seated inside, even with some waiting period, one of the male hosts seemed very rude and disinterested and didn’t clearly tell us if that was possible or not (that wasn’t just to us, I saw him forcing the wrong order to another customer on a different table). Poor communication skills. The servers seemed to be doing a good job making up for lack of etiquettes on the hosts’ part. We left without having dinner since overall the ambiance was too loud and cheap and some of the customers that were already seated and were served food seemed not too happy about the food either.
Service was poor. Waited over one hour between appetizers and entrees (for two people), sitting outside in cold. (They have no heating outside.) Food tasted good, and the menu has some unique items which you won't find everywhere. Value was acceptable, not great. Won't go back any time soon.
Always fantastic! One of NYC's best Indian restaurants!
The food was excellent ... the restaurant though was cold ... not their fault ... with COVID restrictions indoor dining is difficult if seated right by the front door which we were. I don’t recommend the wine ... cocktails are much better. Tasting menus rival and better those of Indian Accent to be honest ... this food was so freshly prepared and every single dish was a tasty surprise.
The best Indian restaurant in midtown!
Excellent food, friendly service and covid friendly outdoor seating was very well done. Highly recommended!
Amazing! Only place I get Indian food in the city!!
Excelente, excelent !!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was ok. Long way to go.
The staff at Amma went out of their way to make us feel comfortable even with the Covid restrictions. Moving our table for two off the sidewalk when a nicer one was available (without our asking). The food was delicious, especially the Chicken Tikki masala and the garlic naan! They even sang “Happy Birthday” to help celebrate our special occasion. We will be back!
Great Indian with charming staff
Maybe some nice flowers on the table and make the area a bit more cozy even though it’s outside
This is not a fair time to provide review for NYC restaurants since they are on sidewalks, but I will do my best. The waiter was extremely helpful and provided us with guidance on what we should order. The bread he suggested was great compared to the one I usually order. The mixed grill was also very good but it was missing the lamb (they did apologize though). The mango lassie served as a nice dessert. I will return when this is all over, but we are eating at as many restaurants as possible to do all we can to support as many of them as we can; we want our city back.
Food is amazing. Nan breads are delicious. We asked for both the plain and the garlic. Both excellent. Dall is also amazing. We also ordered chickpeas with spinach and various types of samosas. All of very good quality.
food was good. staff were excellent. hard to judge menu creativity during these covid times
If you like Indian food you are sure to enjoy Amma. Everything was great! The Saag paneer was excellent, the Tandoori chicken had so much flavor. We will absolutely be back!
Was great! Never disappoints as always consistent. They've done a good job accommodating to the times.
Excellent North & South Indian cuisine served by attentive and pleasant staff guided by the owner who has been successfully running Amma ("her child" -- in her words] for some 18 years. Consistently delicious. Highly recommend.
Food was delicious! Will definitely come back!
We ate outside due to Covid, which we enjoyed. But, the food was among the best Indian I've had in the States. Everything was cooked excellently and the portions were a good size. The garlic naan was nice and fresh and just the right amount of buttery, crispy, and garlicky. The staff was very friendly, though stretched a bit thin. The lamb rogan josh and chicken korma were cooked just right, the former having just a nice kick to it and the latter being pleasant. The kheer and the kufti was the best I've had in the city.
Tasty and efficient service
I absolutely adore this place and the staff. The atmosphere is very welcoming and pleasant. The food is made with love. It has the perfect blend of spices, wonderful presentation, and the food is deliciously aromatic. I took my mother there for her birthday, and I couldn't have chosen a better place. She was so pleased, and the service was beyond exceptional. Dave and the rest of the Amma family surprised her with a delicious dessert as a birthday gift. I highly recommend Amma to others. You won't be disappointed!
The food was fantastic! They really made the best of the COVID situation by creating a cozy outdoor seating area. Made our anniversary extra special by gifting us with a delicious dessert!
Best Indian food and service in nyc
The best Indian food I have ever eaten, and I have eaten at many Indian restaurants. Always consistent. The service always friendly and gracious. I always look forward to visiting Amma.
Great food and service
This is our second time eating there. We live in CA and each meal has been memorable. We sat outside in a pretty garden setting due to Covid. The waiter recommended the fried okra as the house specialty- it is to die for! Just lovely. Highly recommend!
one of the best Indian Restaurants in Manhattan for the money
Everything was amazing. The food and the service very very good we loved it. The only thing I didn’t like is the bathroom, it seemed a little dirty! But besides that, everything was great!!
The manager was very rude & lied to us about table availability eve though we had a booking, the food was poor. I used to be a regular customer to this restaurant but now definitely this is my last visit.
Relaxed and warm atmosphere combines with extraordinary Indian food. Highly recommended.
Delicious and creative vegetarian. Healthy, not greasy. Nice atmosphere in main dining area. Service was a bit intrusive (too frequent interrupting water refill, etc). Most tables for 2 feel like a dark, busy narrow hallway.
The food at Amma is of the highest level and we are enjoying trying all the delicious dishes on the menu.
a lot of hype for not a lot of greatness. Service on Valentine’s Day was not good. Table was worst in the restaurant and shouldn’t have even placed a table at the door, where the door hit my chair everytime it opened. Food was good but dessert to “share” was literally a single bite. Embarrassing especially on V day. Maybe they couldn’t handle the busy holiday. Just not great.
Excellent food, excellent service. A real gem. We had the variety of samosas, a special chicken appetizer and salmon, chicken makani and lamb vindaloo with various naans. All wonderful.
Food was excellent, very fresh homemade taste.
This is one of the two best Indian restaurants in which I have eaten. (The other one is in London). The spices are artfully blended to produce subtle flavor combinations. Everything I and my wife have had has been excellent.
I think thatAmma has THE Best Indian food in New York City. I got Goa shrimp for an appetizer. It was phenomenal. And then I got tandoori lamb chops done perfectly and extraordinaire. I also got baby eggplant as a side. For bread I got paratha. The food and service are outstanding at Amma.
Chicken tikka was delicious but the daal makhani was not. Place kind of small. We didn’t get the best table in the house. It was just ok.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Amma. The wine steward was both well informed and charming. Our paired tasting menu was superb! The wait staff provided just the right amount of attention throughout our dining time.
