About Amis - Philadelphia

Amis brings the quintessential Roman-style trattoria to Philadelphia's Center City neighborhood. Opened in 2010 by Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri, Brad Spence and Jeff Michaud, Amis has cemented its place as one of the city's premier dining destinations, garnering high praise from such publications as the Philadelphia Inquirer (three-out-of-four-bells) and Bon Appetit magazine ("Top 10 Places for Pasta in the U.S."), and from the crowds of regular guests who pack its dining room nightly for dinner and weekends for brunch. Lively, comfortable and convivial, dining at Amis is perfect for a variety of occasions, boasting a share-plates menu of house-made pasta, salumi, farm-fresh meats and peak seasonal vegetable dishes, perfect for sharing while celebrating with friends and family, or a meal out with someone special. Be sure to ask about our "Beast of Amis" menu too. These special dishes feature whole animals-birds, hogs, fish and even full sides of beef.

Amis is usually a good experience. This time there were a lot of loud drunk groups of older couples and their noise level definitely had a negative effect on our experience. The food was good - a bit salty though.

Reservations for 6:00 on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately..Wait staff was prompt, knowledgeable and attentive with out being overbearing. Classic Manhattan was excellent. Even had my favorite rye. Dinner was served exactly as advertised. If you can't get a reservation for Vetri, this is a great dining experience.

This was our second visit after a friend recommended Amis a couple of months ago, and it was a great recommendation! Very nice and laid back atmosphere. The variety of food is great with seasonal local selections. Parking was fairly easy, just remember to bring some quarters to feed the meter (the bar can also help out if you need quarters). We'll definitely be back.

Amis, always good. Very quiet on a Monday night, but the food as always was excellent. Only negative is music a little loud for conversation. All in all a great spot

Good food, service, ambiance, but too noisy on a Saturday night. Background music didn’t add much. Needs some quiet control-All hard surfaces- so difficult to talk. Were their for 21/2 hours.

Guil was a fine server, first to last. Never seen him before in YEARS of going to Landmarc, but hope we get him again next time. The new Italian sausage pizza and Harvest Salad were welcome innovations. I still don't forgive Chef Murphy for dumbing down the menu last year - gone the daily changing pasta specials, gone the scallops, gone the boudins blanc et noir. But this change is at least in the right direction, and both were delicious.

The Service at Amis is amazing. We visited for our anniversary. The first course including the beef cheeks was amazing. Unfortunately, the jalapeno buccatini wasn't as spicing and savory as usual and the pork special was flavorless and extremely fatty. We mentioned this to our hostess and she remedied the issue immediately = amazing service. We love Amis and will continue to visit for special occasions and more.

Great pasta dishes, carefully prepared, awesome drink menu. Highly recommended if looking for traditional Italian in Philadelphia. Recommended: Baked Pecorino, Almond Pesto Bucatini, Oxtail Ragu Gargenelli. Pass on: Strip Steak

Marc Vetri created a winner. When all of his restaurants other that "Vetri" went "Corporate", frankly, I was worried. Amis was fresh and friendly; chic and unique. We can't deny that.
Well, these people have done it! Never missed a beat. Dinner this week was just as inspired, the kitchen just as aglow with people who love what they're doing, the service even more fun to share our experience with. Same superb wines. By-the-glass pours brilliant! And the available bottles are truly inspired and well worth the prices!
Easy to walk out into the evening with satisfied smiles. That's a great restaurant. Always was - and will be.

The food was good for the most part. Swordfish was over-cooked and the polenta severely lacked salt, but overall we had a good meal. We were seated 20 minutes beyond our reservation time - seemingly they don’t have the best grip on reservations and table moving. They brought us a free appetizer to apologize, which was nice. A 4/5 experience; I wasn’t overly impressed by anything. I’d been here years prior and it was much better.

I asked for an extra buffalo ricotta to go and was assured it will be in my two to go bags (we ordered a lot and took left overs), my friend drove an hour to have dinner and wanted an extra one to go from a previous experience only to realize it wasn't included with our to go box after she arrived home, so disappointing

I have eaten veal chops at many restaurants and i ordered one at Amis. The waiter never asked me how i would like it cooked which struck me as odd. I guess it is their policy to cook this dish to one temperature. Anyway, it came out medium well done - just the way i don't like it. i was with some clients so i did not want to make a fuss and send it back but i should have. Not only was the meat overcooked but it was tough.
Also, i wanted to order a bottle of wine. The waiter was kind enough to offer to let me sample the wine he recommended but it took 10 minutes for him to arrive back at our table with the sample. I think the sample wine must have been open for quite a while because it was very tart.
He offered to get another sample but it took another 10 minutes for that to arrive.

We have always loved Amis. The noise level Saturday night was unbearable. The pork chop was burned on the edges and therefore tough. And the baked pecorino appetizer was a very small amount in the ramekin. The waitress was working very hard but the service was not as good as usual. Maybe just an off night. Also, it would be a good idea if they could offer valet parking again.

This is the first restaurant about which I feel strongly enough to write a review. The whole experience was just one huge WOW!! We sat chair side where we could watch the chefs and the rest of the staff hard at work. It was like a well oiled machine where the boss accepted nothing less than perfection for each plate that left the area. My husband and i were beyond impressed with the staff; we had no less than 6 people check on us, make conversation and offer ordering suggestions during our meal. We weren't starving so we ordered the bucatini and the bronzino to share. They were both as good as all the online reviews say. Our waiter encouraged us to also order the grilled octopus appetizer; a complete burst of flavor and we were so happy we took his advice. They also brought out olive oil focaccia which is so worth the carb guilt. We were treated to a side of Brussel sprouts; probably because they were flattered that I was so blown away by the kitchen operation that I had begun to video them with their impressive expertise. We were beyond satisfied and full, yet the special dessert of the day, tiramisu, magically appeared and we somehow managed to finish the whole plate. We were treated like VIPs and we felt like family even though it had been our first time dining there. We came out on such a high from the whole experience that we can't wait to return. Thank you to the many employees this evening who put our dining experience over the top.

Amis crafts a well balanced menu that is very consistently executed. My wife and I enjoyed the escarole salad and sweetbreads as first plates, and a fried shrimp salad and pasta with salmon for second dishes. Simple, agreed, but professionally prepared. And the service was almost spot-on, as it always is. We have eaten here many times before the Philadelphia Orchestra concerts and never been disappointed. By the way, their Verdicchio and Nebbiolo wine glass choices are excellent for the price.

AMIS is a wonderful restaurant. The menu is inventive and interesting, offering novel twists on some classic dishes. I did not know what to expect from the Pork Chop Parmagiana which was highly recommnded by our knowledgeable and enthusiastic server. It was wonderful and completely different from the generic veal and chicken dishes found at most Italian restaurants.
I highly recommend AMIS for a great dining experience.

We had a $200 gift card to use here. The food was very, very good but what completely takes away from the experience is the loudness and proximity of the tables to one another. We dine out a lot and this by far was the loudest restaurant we have ever been to. It was so bad that it actually isn't a pleasant dining experience. Also, the tables are so close to one another that you can hear both conversations on either side of you very clearly and they yours. Even though the food is fantastic, we wouldn't go back again. There are too many great food restaurants but with my better atmosphere.

We had a disappointing dinner recently on a busy Friday night. The restaurant was too loud between the music and cacophony of voices, to the point that my table mates complained that they could. It hear each other. The waiter was inaccessible. It took too long to get drinks refilled and it took too long to order. The food, while okay, does not warrant a repeat visit. Frankly, we expect better of Vetri and his partner.

I am sad to say that the bloom is off the rose for me at Amis. My favorite item on the menu, the swordfish meatballs, were a huge disappointment. The meatballs were way too salty, while the polenta they sat on was watery and flavorless. The brussels sprouts were also so salty - and I love salt! I use it liberally when I cook, but the dishes at Amis had me wondering if the lid fell off the shaker? The baked pecorino and the bucatini were just okay. A sad letdown from our last visit.
