About Amis - Philadelphia
Amis brings the quintessential Roman-style trattoria to Philadelphia's Center City neighborhood. Opened in 2010 by Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri, Brad Spence and Jeff Michaud, Amis has cemented its place as one of the city's premier dining destinations, garnering high praise from such publications as the Philadelphia Inquirer (three-out-of-four-bells) and Bon Appetit magazine ("Top 10 Places for Pasta in the U.S."), and from the crowds of regular guests who pack its dining room nightly for dinner and weekends for brunch. Lively, comfortable and convivial, dining at Amis is perfect for a variety of occasions, boasting a share-plates menu of house-made pasta, salumi, farm-fresh meats and peak seasonal vegetable dishes, perfect for sharing while celebrating with friends and family, or a meal out with someone special. Be sure to ask about our "Beast of Amis" menu too. These special dishes feature whole animals-birds, hogs, fish and even full sides of beef.

Amis - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
The service was amazing, our waiter was very attentive and all the staff was very nice. The food was on another level and truly amazed me and my girl friend. We are foodies and have been to many higher end restaurants in Philly. We will definitely go back here.
The food was excellent and the wine list happened to carry 2 wines from Tuscany that my wine making cousin works for the family that produces. Of course he was of the charts. Overall the experience was terrific and I am going to Amis again with a heavy date.
Amis has been our go to, sit at the bar, order a great drink and a few apps, restaurant since it opened. We’ve taken friends, & recommended to friends for years. We were nervous when we heard that Vetri had sold to Urban Outfitters and worried it would effect the experience. Well its been awhile now and Amis has not suffered, if anything it’s gotten better. We ALWAYS get an order of swordfish meatballs and the are consistently perfect. The fluffy light ALL homemade pastas are perfection with the rich flavorful sauces on the menu. We rarely order an entree as this is one restaurant where we save room for dessert. Mom moms rice pudding with those fabulous tart Italian cherries they also add to some cocktails, yum yum. Homemade tartuffo that is sublime, olive oil cake that transports you to Italy. Service has always been excellent, bartenders, servers, but our young man on Wednesday was especially knowledgeable and considerate of timing., even while training. We love the great rock and roll played in the background but not loud enough to be annoying. Exec Brad Spence had proven he can continue Amis on his own.
Excellent ambiance and service but I just thought the food was disappointing. The flavors were not overly impressive and the presentations were incredibly lacking. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes but I expected much more out of a restaurant that boasts similarities with Vetri.
The food was delicious with clearly fresh ingredients, lots of homemade tastes as in the maccheroni and mushroom bolognese and veal lasagne. Both dishes were happily "meaty". This was preceeded by bruschetta with great crusty chewy chuncks of bread and a ricotta spread and wonderful eggplant caponata. It was also fun to fair wines by the glass for our different food orders. Service was very attentive and informative. Noise level high for conversation, but further evidence of the popularity of this restaurant, also convenient to the theaters on Ave of the Arts.
Let me start by saying we love the food, Amis hasn't lost it's originality and quality over the years. We still keep coming back, now with our kids. But, they messed up with dessert and didn't apologize or even acknowledge this. We ordered the Belgian waffle semifreddo, and after a while the couple adjacent to us ordered the same. They got theirs and we waited and waited, nobody stopped by our table to check, while their table was well served, we were ignored! After an interminable wait we finally got our dessert as if nothing had happened. Maybe our waiter was too busy elsewhere!
Reservations for 6:00 on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately..Wait staff was prompt, knowledgeable and attentive with out being overbearing. Classic Manhattan was excellent. Even had my favorite rye. Dinner was served exactly as advertised. If you can't get a reservation for Vetri, this is a great dining experience.
This was our second visit after a friend recommended Amis a couple of months ago, and it was a great recommendation! Very nice and laid back atmosphere. The variety of food is great with seasonal local selections. Parking was fairly easy, just remember to bring some quarters to feed the meter (the bar can also help out if you need quarters). We'll definitely be back.
Guil was a fine server, first to last. Never seen him before in YEARS of going to Landmarc, but hope we get him again next time. The new Italian sausage pizza and Harvest Salad were welcome innovations. I still don't forgive Chef Murphy for dumbing down the menu last year - gone the daily changing pasta specials, gone the scallops, gone the boudins blanc et noir. But this change is at least in the right direction, and both were delicious.
The Service at Amis is amazing. We visited for our anniversary. The first course including the beef cheeks was amazing. Unfortunately, the jalapeno buccatini wasn't as spicing and savory as usual and the pork special was flavorless and extremely fatty. We mentioned this to our hostess and she remedied the issue immediately = amazing service. We love Amis and will continue to visit for special occasions and more.
Marc Vetri created a winner. When all of his restaurants other that "Vetri" went "Corporate", frankly, I was worried. Amis was fresh and friendly; chic and unique. We can't deny that.
Well, these people have done it! Never missed a beat. Dinner this week was just as inspired, the kitchen just as aglow with people who love what they're doing, the service even more fun to share our experience with. Same superb wines. By-the-glass pours brilliant! And the available bottles are truly inspired and well worth the prices!
Easy to walk out into the evening with satisfied smiles. That's a great restaurant. Always was - and will be.
The food was good for the most part. Swordfish was over-cooked and the polenta severely lacked salt, but overall we had a good meal. We were seated 20 minutes beyond our reservation time - seemingly they don’t have the best grip on reservations and table moving. They brought us a free appetizer to apologize, which was nice. A 4/5 experience; I wasn’t overly impressed by anything. I’d been here years prior and it was much better.
I asked for an extra buffalo ricotta to go and was assured it will be in my two to go bags (we ordered a lot and took left overs), my friend drove an hour to have dinner and wanted an extra one to go from a previous experience only to realize it wasn't included with our to go box after she arrived home, so disappointing
I have eaten veal chops at many restaurants and i ordered one at Amis. The waiter never asked me how i would like it cooked which struck me as odd. I guess it is their policy to cook this dish to one temperature. Anyway, it came out medium well done - just the way i don't like it. i was with some clients so i did not want to make a fuss and send it back but i should have. Not only was the meat overcooked but it was tough.
Also, i wanted to order a bottle of wine. The waiter was kind enough to offer to let me sample the wine he recommended but it took 10 minutes for him to arrive back at our table with the sample. I think the sample wine must have been open for quite a while because it was very tart.
He offered to get another sample but it took another 10 minutes for that to arrive.
We have always loved Amis. The noise level Saturday night was unbearable. The pork chop was burned on the edges and therefore tough. And the baked pecorino appetizer was a very small amount in the ramekin. The waitress was working very hard but the service was not as good as usual. Maybe just an off night. Also, it would be a good idea if they could offer valet parking again.
