We had a terrific dinner. We all ordered different dishes and they were all excellent.
This restaurant use to be good a while back if fact years ago it was one of the best. It is now closed. It felt like there had been a change in ownership. That is how I justified the incredible change in quality.
Amici is my favorite Richmond restaurant. It is ALWAYS good. My favorite dish is the duck. They had a special Valentine's menu this year and the duck was not included, but the pappardelle pasta dish I had was amazing as well.
Valentines Day
Wonderful service and a nice quiet atmosphere, but the food itself was not up to the same level. I would consider this an average Italian restaurant with an above average price. Good wine list but I left really wanting a lighter, fresher tasting meal. With all the great options Richmond, I probably will not be back.
My husband and I went to Amici for Valentine's Day. We were disappointed first with our server - Lisa. She was the opposite of friendly and helpful. We were also disappointed with the fact that "no substitutions" were allowed. My husband asked to have double veg with his rockfish instead of mashed potatoes. We were told "the chef said don't even come in here and ask for a substitution". While we understand it is a crazy busy night - double veg isn't a complicated substitution. Just put a little more veg on the plate instead of the mashed potatoes. There was another server who was very nice who filled our water and chatted to us in a friendly way (we have had her before and thought she was great). Perhaps Lisa was an addition just for Valentine's Day. Also, the food was average at best. With a paired down menu we would have thought they could execute. Dishes weren't salted properly or seasoned well otherwise. Disappointing.
We were couple minutes early for a dinner reservation and were then provided seating right next to bathroom entrance. Thinking that it would be a easy fix given that we were the only people there, we asked to move to a table over and we were told 'no' with little to no rational explanation. We had reservation just like the other patrons and did not deserve the uncourteous and unwelcoming response. Overall our waitress was good, food was average which was priced above average. Will not return.
Excellent. Great food and great service. Will definitely be back.
Excellent as always! Are go to restaurant with visitors from out of town.
I took my wife here for a birthday dinner. The food was delicious; the waiter's service was splendid and the whole place sang happy birthday to her. The rock fish was certainly the best I have ever had.
the food was great. It was a last minute group dinner for my birthday, and the atmosphere was warm, cozy, and not too loud-- great for being able to catch up with friends. The chef made rounds, and really, everyone loved the food. The waitress was at best described as awkward. Our group includes singles and moms and dads and no one in the group happened to feel like carting children out on a weeknight for dinner although all including little ones were welcome. the waitress was very abrasive when my friend (who happens to be a breastfeeding mom with small windows of time to be away from a new baby) asked to go ahead and order while the rest of the group was still taking time and chatting. It was a very awkward and judgemental moment while the waitress repeatedly asked her why she wanted to order ahead of the group. Another awkward moment happened because some people were late for the reservation. I would understand if we were horribly inconveniencing waiting hordes of diners, but besides our small group, there was exactly one other table with people in the entire restaurant and one gentleman at the bar. Except for the waitress, the food, the rest of the staff, the atmosphere were great!
The menu had changed recently, and they had removed one of the dishes that I really like. I asked the waitress if they could still make it and they did with no problem. It was great!
Pretty unremarkable...
New Year's Eve reservation for two,and with the good reviews went ahead with plans to go having never been before. Came in from Fredericksburg and given light traffic got there early. We were seated and this is where the problems begin. Seated next to doorway to washroom. Need I say more? Space so small had to move every time someone had to go through. The food was not great. We did eat without complaint as our server, Matthew, was exceptional. He was the only bright spot. Will not go back.
We made a reservation for a busy Friday night. Unfortunately, earlier diners lingered which is no fault of the restaurant, except perhaps being too comfortable and too welcoming! We grabbed a seat at the bar which is not great since neither of us drinks alcohol! We did not get a table for more than 30 minutes! In some cities and in some restaurants that is not much time to wait for a table. But let's face it, we live and eat in Richmond Virginia where we are spoiled. When we make a dinner reservation for 7:30 p.m., and we walk in at 7:30 p.m. we expect our table to be ready and waiting for us. Guess I will just have to get over myself!
Gluten free pasta with shrimp--delicious with the tart marinara sauce. Special mushroom, chicken and cheese ravioli was just terrific! The Tower of crab meat, avocado, and tomatoes was and is the best appetizer in Richmond. The special butternut squash soup was worth the trim alone.
We were able to get a table for 6 last minute on Christmas Eve and we were the last table out the door! The service was awesome and the food was great! The owner stopped by and thanked us for coming in which I always love!! Highly recommend this cozy restaurant in Carytown!
The whole experience was great. Great food, great service! We will be back again soon!
Food awesome. Always take my Mom to Amici when I am in town. It must have been a busy night because the service felt rushed, like a couple of waiters called in sick. Very unusual for Amici.
Always have a great meal and great service. The quail salad was killer good!!
Lovely, old school northern (i.e., no red sauce) Italian restaurant. Owner/chef takes great care and pride in everything. Solid service. Not cheap, but ample portions and many home-made items make up for it. Seating downstairs is a bit nicer than upstairs but it's all good. And they have real cloth towels in the rest rooms: it's like a bit of Europe!
It has been awhile since I'd been to Amici's and the food was wonderful. The waitress however was bossy and rushing us through the entire meal. We wanted to take our time but she told us that due to a large party arriving, our orders may be late getting out if we waited on placing or entree order. I also think that the addition of some small tea light candles on the tables and bar would go a long way in creating some ambiance.
Traditional northern Italian. Quality ingredients, superb chef, everything made from scratch in house, friendly and attentive staff. Multi-course European style/paced dining experience. Outstanding for long romantic anniversary dinner. Get the desert. Reservations almost required for decent meal times. Chef will make special items not on menu if you call 2 days in advance. Hint, call ahead for the baked, brandied caramelized bosc pears. Best desert ever tasted anywhere, even New Orleans.
I absolutely loved Amici. The food was fantastic as well as the service. There wasn't any squid ink pasta on special or on the menu but we asked and received. The appetizers were amazing. I will recommend this place to everyone!
There were nine of us for my wife's birthday. From the appetizers (special polenta coated fried oysters) to the salads - the beet, goat cheese and spinach salad was fantastic, to our entrees the food was great. The only dish that was lacking was the wild boar ragu over homemade noodles - was far to dry and could have used more sauce. Other entrees from menu items to specials were excellent and appropriately portioned.
There were six of us for lunch. We ordered appetizers the Calamari and a cap Reese salad with barata. Bothered were excellent. Four ordered the salads with either salmon or grouper and the fish was cooked properly and the salads were a great value. Two order a special sausage and Gorgonzola ravioli which had great flavor.
The attention to customers is lackluster and we were sat upstairs with 2 really loud groups even though there were tables available downstairs. We sat around with empty glasses. No one poured our wine or refilled the water. The waiter forgot to order our appetizer and when we reminded him (after our salads), he still charged us for the appetizer. The heirloom tomatoes appeared to not be heirloom-no flavor. Gorgonzola was overpowering in the ravioli special. When we complained, no effort was made to send a manager to the table. We will not be returning. Definitely not worth the $200+ that we spent.
Amici never disappoints! Great authentic Italian food served in a friendly neighborhood restaurant. Modest and excellent wine list. We took my husband's brother from Seattle there for his birthday dinner and he loved it.
Service was lovely. Upstairs musty and dated. Entree overpriced - pasta made on site but crab not fresh and incredibly skimpy on promised asparagus.
Have been enjoying Amici for years - but sadly, this may have been our last time.
Not what we expected but interesting menu. Service was excellent. Very knowledgeable wait staff.
The quality of the food and the outstanding service requires me to return again.
Food was average at best, lamb was under cooked. The bisque wasn't a bisque but a dark tomato soup. Reviews said it was excellent, not so much. Waiter didn't know what was in the meals. The restaurant was extremely bright and there was no music. We spent just over $100 for about a $40- $50 meal. We were underwhelmed to say the least.
Food was wonderful great service. Love it here
It has been a number of months since we had last eaten at Amici and it was every bit as good as I remembered it. We ate early (6:00) on a Saturday and there was only one other couple in the small dining room overlooking Cary Street - consequently, it was quiet. Service was friendly and very professional. I had salmon and my wife had duck breast, we found both to be delicious. The salmon and the duck, were beautifully prepared and presented. We will not wait for months to return!
Best restaurant in Richmond. Great authentic Italian food.
I had the Pasta with boar ragu and it was superb. Excellent flavor. And then I had the rockfish special with diced tomatoes and asparagus and the dish was a 10.
Carlo always does a superb job. Our 3 cheese ravioli and ceasar salad with salmon were delicious. Can not recommend Amici highly enough.
We love visiting Amici. The food is always excellent. Carlo is the best!
We enjoyed superb service, excellent wine and authentic food.
Had an amazing dinner for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Staff was very attentive and polite, food was amazing.
Amici is a wonderful place, the site of my wife's and my first date, and the site of our anniversary, Valentine's Day, and any other "special" times. The waitstaff at each visit has been attentive and friendly, without being annoying, and very knowledgeable, as to what's on the menu, what wine works best with what food selections, even giving recommendations when needed as to how best to enjoy something (food pairings, how rare or well done meat should be, etc.) The food style is generally northern Italian, and everything is well-prepared. The menu changes regularly, but each new dish seems to be a new triumph for the kitchen. The chef has a good handle on the food being served, whether it is meat or fish or pasta or vegetables or the various combinations thereof. My favorite Richmond restaurant.
