Amici Restaurant - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
A recent visit to Amici was our first ever, celebrating Christmas with a friend. The ambiance was great and we could enjoy each other's company without effort. Service was amazing. I was disappointed in my steak. Although it was done to perfection and tasted good, it was lukewarm, as was the beef in my husband's meal. My friend's duck was divine with no issues.
Unfortunately I did not enjoy the veal scalloppini as there was far to much whole peppercorns in the sauce and that is all I could taste.
However, the waiter and the kitchen staff were outstanding in ensuring that my spouse who has celiac disease enjoyed a gluten-free meal. The waiter was wonderful in his suggestions and explaining how the kitchen could adjust sauces/dressings etc.
Reliable and consistently good. Hot food is served hot and cold is cold. Visually pleasing servings. Service is impeccable and knowledgeable. Appetizers (scallops and shrimp) were tasty. Entrees (veal and pickerel) were delicious.
Can't go wrong with Amici !
We have been coming to Amici for years to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. We were not disappointed on this last occasion, but we did remark differences in food choice, menu variety, and even in taste. Nothing really overt and all very subtle, and we still had an enjoyable outing, but we sincerely hope that things are not changing for cost-cutting reasons.
The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was anything but a rose'. The wine list was sparse and the glasses were like drinking out of a fish bowl. Although we we ate our dinner without complaining, folks a few tables from us were sending thier dinner back. For a place that is ranked as one of the best restaraunts in the city our experience was under whelming at best.
We have been to Amici's often for special occasions and also getting together with friends. We always found the food delicious. This was not the case on Friday, August 5th, 2016. My husband had beef tenderloin and it tasted very ordinary and a bit tough. I had salmon stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The salmon was over cooked and the overall taste with the spinach and ricotta just did not taste great.
Our waiter who has served us often was great like usual but he seemed busy with several tasks -we felt you were understaffed and he had to seat people, answer the phone and many other duties.
We also think the restaurant needs a facelift. The carpets are quite worn and the bathroom downstairs is older.
We were mainly disappointed with the taste of our meals. It just seems like the restaurant is not doing very well because there were not many people there for a Friday night. It is time for Amici's to have a makeover.
As usual we are never disappointed with either the food or service, it was outstanding as per usual. Our waiter was more than patient and fun, made for an enjoyable night out with 3 other couples. Lots to choose from and their specials are always very good. would highly recommend this to anyone looking for great food in a relaxed atmosphere.
It was a Tuesday night, so.... Still expected something special. We've been going to Amici as one of our favourites since Heinz and Joanna ran it, never been this disappointed. Sadly, it's the end of an era. Servings of their signature salad were miniscule. The half rack of lamb was three measly slivers, no encrusting, a dollop of sauce, had to ask for some mint jelly to give it any flavour. The duck breast was well done, always a no no. I can pretty much forgive any straying from a 'real' torte St. Honore, but theirs was a flat mess. The saving grace was the cioppino, which our host enjoyed, thank goodness, as he paid the bill. I won't go back. Ever.
We had dined here many times before and the food and service were exceptional. This time we had purchased a groupon 4 course meal and were very disappointed with the quality of the food. We all had sent back our meals and had new ones brought to us. The new meals were just marginally better. Very upsetting that the food was not up to the usual standard. We had ordered wine and found out that only 4 of the 8 wines were available. We are questioning the business and the quality of the food.
We have been going out to Amici for nearly 25 years to celebrate special occasions and have never been disappointed to date. However, this time we remarked that there were notable differences in certain features of our meal. There were fewer 'specials of the day' from which to choose. The bread did not seem as fresh as usual and there was no choice of butters. There were no pie nuts for the salads nor the correct cheese. And the Chardonney wine seemed off or old and was sent back. And the main dishes did not come with any side dishes of vegetables. However, the food was still delicious, but this was the first time we left Amici without a fully satisfied feeling. Nevertheless, we will return for our next special occasion and hope that this was merely an off night.
W e received impeccable service, which is usual at Amici, and the food was top-notch. I maintain that they have the best Carpaccio in the city--though I'm not sure how many places serve it! We asked to share our soup, and they actually divided it up for us. Incredible. It was sad to see how empty it was, but the waiter said that this is their slow time. I know that I have been there on a Wednesday night in November more than once, and the tables were mostly filled. This was a Thursday in May, just before the long weekend. We were the last ones there, but had no feeling of being rushed. Our special occasion was a romantic one, and Amici really filled the bill for it. Be prepared to spend a bit of money though, especially if you would like wine with your meal.
Went for reservation on Sat, 4/23 @ 6pm. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant at that time. We were accommodating as we requested the Fried Lobster Ravioli that we had there 8 years priors.
We had a drink and then wanted to order a bottle of wine. The waiter came back and said they were out of our 1st selection so we ordered a different type. The waiter came back yet again and said they were out of our 2nd choice and it happened a 3rd time as well. We finally were able to get our 4th choice.
They had a special 6-course meal that my wife and I both ordered. We planned on eating at 6pm as we had to go to the show at 8:30pm at the Royal Manitoba Performing Arts Center.
All of the courses were average to good with the exception of dessert. I still don't know what that dessert was by I could barely get through the slimy texture.
Needless to say that the 6-course meal ended up taking 2 hours and 15 minutes which I was not anticipating. We had to rush from dinner to the show which we ended up showing up late for.
***On a side note - The restaurant ended up 3/4 full by 7pm. They only had 2 waiters on and 1 assistant. They seamed frazzled and were barely able to keep up.
