Americana, a little gem of a restaurant has been located at the prime corner of 15th Street and Camino Del Mar in Old Del Mar for 12 years. A comfortable and inviting sidewalk café wraps around the restaurant surrounded by lush vegetation and ocean views. Americana serves a great breakfast, lunch & dinner with a full bar in the day light hours. Many say the Bloody Mary’s are the best in the county. Americana Restaurant does not require reservations for Breakfast or Lunch so please come on it. At night time, the lights dim and the restaurant becomes a quaint bistro serving Mediterranean influenced fare with carefully chosen wines and great cocktails. Bon Appetit.

We ordered our food and asked to take our entrees to-go. The waitress was very gracious and accommodating. We enjoyed the bread and butter at the table while waiting. Unfortunately the entrees were a disappointment especially considering what we paid for them. The flatbread was so-so and could have used a little more time in the oven. The grilled vegetable entree was terrible—the greens were bitter and the cabbage had an off flavor. Not at all what we’d hoped for.

One of the worst dinners in a long time. We were visiting for the Christmas holidays from Texas and my teenage daughter and I stopped in for a dinner together for some special time alone to talk. The flatbread was completely wet abd dripping in a puddle of water. The bolognese was also completely saturated in juice and sitting on a huge bowl of dripping water. It was the worst meal we’ve ever had. The manager could have definitely been more apologetic while we asked to forget about the flatbread appetizer and remake the bolognese. She acted like she was doing us a favor that she took the flatbread off the bill, as she well should have. Very disappointing experience during the holidays on a special night out with my daughter.

Place is quite original, food is delicious and kind of "California Cuisine." It's casual but also a special experience. Great service and a lovely spot!

This restaurant has one of the best locations in town. Unfortunately, based on our experience, one of the two things it has going for it. The other is a bright, very nice waitress. From the moment we walked in the woman we assume was most likely the owner was so unfriendly we felt like we were in the way. We were seated outside (our choice). The iced tea I was served was rancid. The waitress took it away but no offer to make another. We ordered the CRISPY chicken and what was served was undercooked in the middle, dry at the edges with limp skin chicken. The "roasted" brussell sprouts were actually sautéed and undercooked.

The ribs were horrible! So tough you couldn't cut them off the bone with a steak knife. Brussels sprouts undercooked. Waitress was nice, she was new and messed up our check. Will never go back!

Four of us ordered four different things. Everything was delicious - flatbreads, salads, steak, fish! The servers let us change our table when we decided to sit in the sun not the shade. Service was amazing and friendly. Special requests were handled with a "not-a-problem" attitude.

Oh - did I say the food was delicious?

The day of our visit was a sweltering hot "Santa Ana" weather pattern we have a couple times a year in San Diego...temperature hovering close to 100 degrees and we were eagerly looking forward to relaxing at an air-conditioned table for a great meal. As we walked in, an oven blast of wilting air hit us. "We don't have air conditioning," remarked the hostess/server. "Would you like to sit outside?" We debated that, but decided to sit at a north-facing table where occasional breezes would provide some relief from the heat. But any relief was negated by a large squadron of flies that had us waving our arms like we were conducting the San Diego Symphony. "I haven't seen the flies this bad since the horse racing season stopped" (at nearby Del Mar Race Track) said our server Linda. The flies landed directly on our food countless times as we attempted to eat.


I ordered the Jidori Chicken and a side of asparagus. My friend ordered the Grilled Vegetable Stack.

Linda emphasized it was happy hour, and we ordered the Baja Fish Tacos for $6 (regularly $10.25).

The Jidori Chicken, was dry and lacked flavor. Particularly unpleasant was the accompanying lemon-pepper faro risotto, which was very salty. My friend tried it, also finding it unenjoyable. The asparagus had been taken back and re-served and had lost much of its appeal during the wait.

My friend enjoyed her grilled vegetables very much. We also received fresh, hot bread.

When the bill arrived, Linda had charged us the full price of the fish tacos. I called her attention to it and she claimed that, because we received a discount on our meals, we must pay full price for the tacos. I answered by saying the happy hour price was offered to ALL patrons BY THE RESTAURANT who entered during the stated hours. She, and another server who identified herself as the manager, insisted we pay the full price for happy hour tacos.

There was nothing good about our dining experience here. We ordered two specials - one fish and one skirt steak. All of the food was overcooked. Flavors were blah. The service was barely acceptable. The table that was seated next to us (seated after us) received a bread basket whereas we did not get bread until we flagged down our waitress (when she was visible to us - which was seldom) and requested it. The best thing I can say is that they do take the Passport card, so we saved the price of an entree. Regardless, we are unlikely to come back.
