American Tap Room - Rockville Ratings and Reviews
The food was fine and our son loves the cotton candy drink. The place was empty on a Sunday night and our waiter was too attentive. For example, he rushed us and offered dessert when I still had half of my dinner still uneaten on my plate. There was no reason to push us out the door. We were quiet and the place was dead so we felt rather annoyed and may not return because of it.
Good tool more than 25 minutes to arrive and 2/5 of the orders were incorrect. I do have to commend the manager for quickly fixing the issue but eating dinner with children and having to get their dinners remade, waiting so long really put a damper on our dining experience.
We wanted to celebrate Mother's Day by going to brunch. My wife checked on-line and this brunch sounded like it offered a variety of foods that we would enjoy and was close to home. We had eaten brunch a couple years ago at their Bethesda location and thought it was just okay. This brunch clearly outshone our visit to Bethesda. There was a large variety of items, and for the most part, everything was delicious. Our waiter seemed new at the task but tried to be very accommodating. One problem - we ordered orange juice which cost extra and when he brought it, the glass was full of ice which cuts down on the amount of juice. I asked whether they kept the orange juice in a refrigerator. When he said yes, I asked why the juice was served in a glass full of ice. He said he had gotten it from the bar and that's how they prepare OJ at the bar. He took it back and brought us a glass of just orange juice. But this was a minor thing and we still agreed that the brunch was much better than what we expected and we would return again.
Happy hour appetizers excellent. Love fish tacos and Phoenix wings (spices dry rub). Also enjoyed mussels but other two much better. Happy hour wines use to be higher brands , now Canyon Road, so passed and happy with White Cosmo which was a good choice. Service good. Only disappointments, consistently had problems with free WiFi so turned it off. Also checked into Yelp and pleasantly surprised to get 10% off food. Employee told me to accept now vs save for later and then manager stated not good for happy hour which I understand but now I lost discount and 10% off happy hour would be less than on regular meals, so should have honored. Oh well, enjoyed food and drink.
This was my third time going to American Tap Room and my experience wasn't as good as the first two times. For some reason, the food items we ordered tasted pretty salty, and a bit sour, especially the soup and salad. Not sure what happened, but the quality of the foods seemed a bit lower and different than the last time I visited this place. Not sure if I want to go back again since it wasn't that good of an experience last time out compared to the first 2 visits. Maybe if the menu selection was better and the quality of the food was tastier, will think about going back.
We showed up for our reservation right on time, but no table available, so we sat in the bar instead. About the only thing that was good was the beer...the food was simply atrocious, even for "pub grub" and so heavily salted that my two teenagers didn't finish their dinners. After we complained to our wait staff, we heard crickets...no discount, no apologies, nothing. Full bill...well, sure, that will build future customer interest...
Just stay away...
I believe ATR may just have started doing a brunch service at the Rockville Town Center location because the restaurant was very empty when we visited. The brunch, however, is very nice. There is a good variety of well-prepared and tasty food and the price is reasonable. The pancakes were very good, as were sausages and the omelette bar. The more lunch-y foods like the blackened tilapia and salad were also tasty. The service was adequate: even though there were few people in the restaurant, our coffee was rarely refilled and finished plates were infrequently bussed.
The waiter recommended the NY Strip over the Ribeye. I was going to order the NY anyhow, which was better than most, but my friend ordered the Ribeye in spite of the waiter's warning... and it came overcooked. This is in part to do with the very thin cut. He didn't return it primarily because he didn't want to throw off the timing of the dinner. I didn't push it. But if I had ordered it I would most definitely would have sent it back. This is not a fluke... the waiter already knew there was a potential problem here. Why wouldn't a reasonable restaurant address this issue? The steak, which is not cheap, couldn't have been more than 1/2 inch.
Food was very good. Service was terrible. Waited about 10 minutes, no waiter. Finally had to go ask for someone to come to table. Waiter was not at all knowledgable about beer selection. Had to continually waive him down for water refills, drink orders, etc. wasn't even crowded. May go back and sit at bar.
Didn't get 4/6 orders coirrect, we mentioned it was a birthday, didn't ask but brough a piece of cake and charged us $7.00 for the cake. Asked for my ice tea to go, said they ran out of to go cups. Disappointing. Have been there two other times and the experience was much better. Maybe an off day?
It pains me to write this, as this has long been one of our family's favorite place to go to celebrate or just have a night out. The format of the menu has changed, and it is quite difficult to look through - reminds me more of a specials list you'd see on a table, rather than a menu you are trying to read. In addition, the volume of the music was quite loud, making it difficult for conversation. The beer selection is greatly diminished from the past (this is a Tap Room right?) And it feels as the though lighting has changed as well, as we felt like we were in the dark. They were not busy, but communication was not what it should be and it took an inquiry to the front to determine if we were going to have a sever as we had waited quite some time and no one stopped by. I will say, that once Courtney stepped up as our server, she did a good job. I ordered the wasabi salmon sandwich. Note when they say wasabi paste - they mean it, it was like a huge squirt of toothpaste or playdoh on the sandwich and I strongly suggest you order it on the side, and smooth on what you want with a knife. Note that the kids dessert, which used to be part of their meal, is now an additional cost and no longer part of the meal. There have been so many changes here and I am quite saddened by our experience this time and not sure we will be so quick to return.
We were told by the hostess when we walked in that they don't always honor the open table reservations but they would get us eat it as soon as possible. So we sat and waited for 40 minutes past our open table reservation time. This obviously negates the benefit of OpenTable. Had we known it would take this long We would have gone somewhere else. The only reason we walked in the door is because we were able to get an OpenTable spot. Food was good and the server was great
Service was decent, attentive, our party wasn't an "easy" one. Every drink stayed filled, food arrived in a timely manner (and was pretty yummy). Not expecting Trivia to be going on, enjoyed listening to the questions (couldn't really miss them, it was super loud and echoing over the empty dining room), it is what it is, it's a tap room first, restaurant 2nd. I'm not sure if the hostess was having a bad day, but I can tell you that eye rolling is NOT a way to greet customers and continuous walk-bys accompanied by nasty looks from staff, not a way to garner repeat business. I bumped my 5 top, to a 7 top (which I called ahead about), and arrived with 8 ppl (surprise guest) for which I apologized profusely for doing. The restaurant had 0 tables seated. Not one. And staff acted as though we had committed an atrocity.
The staff was pleasant and service was prompt. However, the food was just okay with some odd flavor combinations. Steak and cheese egg rolls were good but very greasy. Several dishes came with the same sriracha-mayo style sauce which got a little boring. The fish and chips were on par with low-end pubs I've eaten at in Ireland. The strip steak was good, but over-seasoned. Unfortunately, for a place with Tap Room in its name, our server knew next to nothing about beer and had to get his manager to answer basic questions about their selections. The menu was not specific about the selections either, simple stating the brewery name and nothing else.
Overall, it was a fine place to eat, but I would not consider American Tap Room as a first choice (or even second choice). There are several other places with better food and more selection for drinks in the same area.
It was hard to decide what to have from the substantial menu. But we made our choices and were not disappointed. The portions were good and the taste was great. All along the staff made sure we had a great time. We will be going back when we are in the Rockville city-center neighborhood. In short, we had a great time.
The food and drinks were fantastic. However the service was lacking. We mainly had drinks and appetizers. I loved the Steak and Cheese eggrolls. They were incredible. Then we had the Shrimp appetizer which was also fantastic. Our waiter was slow however and he didn't check on us very often. Our food was brought out by another staff member which came out quickly. However getting drink refills took a long time.
Our family was booked for Mother's Day, so we celebrated the night prior. I looked at several selections from the Open Table list, and chose this restaurant based upon reservation availability and their menu. We liked the location, the service, and the food, and felt the overall experience was good based upon value. I would recommend this place for any occasion, given the available locations for quiet and group bookings.
When on business trip, I typically go to Bethesda, but decided to head out to American Tap Room. It was a great time. All staff members were personable, especially bartender, Phil, who was multi tasking but never made me felt unattended! Food and wine were great too! Enjoyed their happy hour house Cabernet; not your typical cheap wine! Love the Phoenix wings, fish tacos and spicy shrimp. Love eating appetizers for a meal! Highly recommend this place for great group at bar and very friendly staff!
The burgers were good, the beer list was excellent, and I appreciate having real food on the kids menu (not just Mac and cheese). We arrived early around 5:30 and things started off well, but service slowed down towards the end as it got busier. It took a long while to get the check and pay. We'll definitely go again at the same time and just ask for the check right after the food is dropped.
Took my fiancee here for a congratulations-dinner-date on her new job. Couldn't be happier, food was delicious, and even though there was some big basket ball game this evening (4/24/2015) the divider that separates the bar from the rest of the dining area really cut down on the noise level.
We made reservations at the Rockville location because we had thought the Bethesda and Rockville locations would be similar, but we were horribly mistaken. The menu is much different and even the items that are similar are made much differently. We did not enjoy the Rockville location as much as the Bethesda location. I suppose had we never eaten at the Bethesda location, this one would be good at best.
Decided last minute to go out for dinner on St. Pat's and open table showed tables forAmerican Tap Room. Got there and the table wasn't ready because of a large party but bar tables were free, so we were quickly accommodated. Nice couple of guys singing holiday appropriate songs, Guinness was on tap and half priced-- not a bad way to celebrate wearing green.🍀
This was our second visit. The first was to the Bethesda location. It was Valentine's Day and we were looking for something low key and quick before a movie. Despite being quite busy, the service was quick and the staff was very attentive. Although I wouldn't call the food exceptional, it is definitely above average and was well prepared. I would put this on my list of reliable stand bys when in the area and would not hesitate to bust again.
I like American Tap Room. The food is simple, the service is good and the prices are fair. Was there for lunch and had the cod sandwich with fries. It was good. Portions were ok and the fish was tasty. ATR always seems to be fairly empty for lunch so the service was good with both managers stopping by to make sure all was good.
